Hi! My name is Melissa, and I wrote this activity book. I am from the USA. I grew up in a state called Pennsylvania. Maybe you have heard of Philadelphia?
Hey! My name is Melissa, and I wrote this activity book. am from the USA, and studied in the United Kingdom. I went to school in England and in Scotland. Can you find both countries on the map of the UK? Now I live in Sweden and teach English at a school like yours!
In this book, you will meet Team English UK!
That’s our most famous city. You can see Pennsylvania on the map – it’s under New York. Now I live in Sweden and teach English at a school like yours! I like to read, write, and sing. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family and friends.
You will get to know characters from each country in the UK: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. They will tell you about the places where they live and their interests, like animals, music, and sports.
In this book, you will meet Team English USA! You will meet characters from all around the United States like New York, Texas and Hawaii. They like to do things that you might like to do too, like spend time with family, play sports, eat their favorite food and hang out with their friends.
These characters will take you on a journey all across the UK. I bet you will learn something new just like I did when I lived there! Don’t forget to have fun using English with your friends!
I love learning more about Sweden, and you will learn more about the USA in this book!

Hiya! I’m
Charlie from Liverpool, England.
This is my buddy dog, Buster. He helps me to get around the city. I love music – especially classic rock! You don’t need to see to love listening to music – just open your ears! I play the drums together with my friends. What kind of music do you like?

Music 5

Let’s Read: Charlie’s Dream
Every weekend, Charlie meets his friends to play music in his garage. They like famous bands like The Beatles, Oasis, and Coldplay. Charlie enjoys the powerful sound of the drums and keeping the rhythm. One day, he dreams of performing on a big stage in front of a crowd. Maybe he and his friends will start a band together!

Let’s Read: The Music We Like

Liverpool is an important place for music in England. The most famous band from Liverpool is The Beatles. Have you heard of them? Do you like their music? I do! They are my favourite band even though they are not together anymore. I want to be a famous drummer like Ringo Starr! The Beatles played a lot of different genres, or types of music, but many people think of them as classic rock musicians.
My friends also love music, but we have different tastes when it comes to the genre.
Finlay’s favourite music genre is hip hop. He likes new hip hop music, but his favourite bands are from the 1980s and 1990s. His dad lets him listen to his old CDs, because Finlay likes to use older technology. He doesn’t like to stream music online.

Sophie’s favourite kind of music is jazz. She likes that you never know what to expect next in jazz. Jazz can be relaxing, or it can be exciting! She plays the saxophone really well. She doesn’t like jazz songs with trumpets in them, though.

Aisha’s favourite kind of music is pop. She loves to listen to all the hits on the radio and streams music online. She listens to it everywhere: in her room, on the bus, and even in the bathroom! She likes to make up dances to the songs, but she doesn’t like to post videos of herself dancing.. She thinks it is too embarrassing. anymore längre tastes smak embarrassing pinsamt expect förvänta sig beats takter, slag whenever varje gång, närhelst

Gemma’s favourite music genre is hard rock. She says that the best way to make a bad day into a good day is to play rock music really loudly and scream as hard as you can! It always makes her feel better. She doesn’t like slow songs because they make her feel sad. She likes songs with strong beats and long guitar solos.
I know Buster is a dog, but I think he likes classical music the best. Whenever my mum plays something by Mozart, he falls asleep right away! He stays with me all the time, but I can tell that he doesn’t like sitting near me when I play the drums.

Charlie’s band, The Whatsits, have had their first show. A reporter from their school paper wrote a review of their show and interviewed some fans.
The Whatsits’ First Gig
Last Saturday, I went to see the new rock band The Whatsits perform live.
They played in the school gym. I saw many of my classmates there!
The band was really fun, and they played great music! Jack is the newest member, and he plays the lead guitar. I think Jack fits in very well, and he played awesome solos!
One of my favourite songs they played was ‘Rockin' in the Night’. Everyone in the audience cheered and sang along!
However, I didn’t like that some of their songs sounded too similar. It would be nice if they tried new styles or different sounds.
By: Amelia Smith

Overall, I think The Whatsits are a great band, and I had a lot of fun at their show. I would recommend their concert to anyone who loves rock music. I had a great time! I can’t wait to see what they do next!

Emily: ‘It was good, but I think it would sound better with a harp.’
Rockin’ in the Night – Lyrics
Written by: Charlie Jones Performed by: The Whatsits
VERSE 1
We went to the park when the sun sank down, We sang our songs as the stars came ‘round. We took our guitars and they shook the trees, The music spread like a cool night breeze.
CHORUS
We were rockin' in the night, we felt so free, The moon rose high, and we saw the sea. We stood in a circle, our voices rang, And all the animals heard when we sang.

Activity Book
