PRESIDENT’S PREVIEW: A YEAR OF EQUIPPING
We all know Kevin Costner’s famous saying from Field of Dreams: “If you build it, he will come.” Well ladies, it is officially time for us to break in our newly built spaces as the Women of Saint Michael (WOSM)! Together with an incredibly talented committee, WOSM is planning a robust calendar of gratifying and enriching moments to convene, grow, and serve together. If you have yet to join in on our fun, the time is now.
This year, we gather as the Women of Saint Michael around a shared goal: becoming better equipped—together.
Better equipped for what? Better equipped to navigate our relationships and conversations; better equipped to prioritize emotional well-being and family; better equipped to tackle both the practical and the seemingly impossible.
Our year will be guided by Colossians 1:9: “We continually ask God to fill us with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.”
We are changing things up (ever so slightly)! Our always-anticipated speaker series is going to be enjoyed over a breakfast, lunch, and happy hour. We are hoping this may allow everyone to flex their schedules and attend. The series goal, as outlined above, is to equip us with spiritual wisdom for our worldly relationships and walk.
We are wasting zero time putting our ample convening space to use. Mark your calendar for October 7. Our first speaker is so incredibly impactful, we cannot selfishly keep him to just WOSM - men are encouraged to join alongside. Tommy Spaulding, three-time bestselling author addressing all-things-relationships, is perfectly equipped to kickstart our focus on equipping our hearts and minds to handle our worldly walk.

Beyond our speaker series, we know it is equally important to nurture and form new relationships across generations within our (shiny, new) walls! We are launching ‘WOSM Wednesdays’: three Wednesdays spanning throughout the upcoming year of informal mahjong mingles from 5–7p.m., complete with childcare. Women will enjoy bites, beverages and mahjong (or BYO other game!).
We will also latch arms and roll up our sleeves for WOSM’s annual ‘Day of Service’ in January to lovingly refresh the Jubilee Park & Community Center. In March, we will host the Jubilee Mother-Daughter Tea for this beloved community. We will also have the opportunity to volunteer with the Altar Guild before Easter to mingle while making each and every Palm Cross for Easter services.
Mardi Gras is our bi-annual celebration, and we will make New Orleans proud with dueling pianos this year. Mark your calendars for Thursday, February 4.
We wouldn’t be WOSM without a little shopping for our cause. The Women’s Exchange will host us once more for an evening of holiday shopping in November. We have also planned mingles at two of our favorite stores, Veronica Beard (Fall ‘26) and Bold Bungalow (Spring ‘27). These stores will graciously give back 10% of proceeds to WOSM.
We end our year with our Spring Luncheon, which is the event of the WOSM season! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 12! We celebrate our year’s achievements, most notably our ‘annual raise’ that the Gifts Committee turns around to distribute to charities serving those most vulnerable in our DFW community.

Before signing off, I will share my heartfelt goal for this year. My goal is that we, together, will enter these newly refreshed walls feeling a part of something bigger than ourselves - the Women of Saint Michael. I desire for every woman in our congregation (1) to embrace this community of women, (2) to find a purpose that brings fulfillment within this community, and (3) to feel more equipped to conquer the day-to-day because of this community. Lean into WOSM this year with me, please!

My dear friends, as I am writing this letter to you, I have been reflecting upon the past four years since I arrived at Saint Michael. Upon my arrival I was asked if I would be the chaplain for the Women of Saint Michael. I did not realize what a gift this position would be for me. I have been blessed to work (and play) alongside you as I have been fortunate to get to know so many of you. From the Altar Guild to Saint Mary's Guild, from the Vestry to the All Angels Foundation, in Mission and Outreach and in our Pastoral Care ministries, as Acolytes and in our choir–your work for our church is amazing and solid. I am especially thankful for all of you that support our worship services every week, from the tiniest Wednesday Chapel service to the large festivals Christmas and Easter, not to mention all those funerals and weddings. You ensure that it is done flawlessly and beautifully. You were fabulous and resilient as we worked through all those changes pre-construction, during construction and now as we move into our new space.
Your generosity is also something to behold. Each year we are so excited when you announce the gifts that being made from the profits of the Saint Michael’s Woman’s Exchange and from the proceeds of the parish party. Those profits from The Exchange were made from thousands of sales through tens of thousands of volunteer hours as your team bought, managed, displayed, sold and wrapped all those wonderful items. The parties you put on as a fundraiser or as a “friend raiser” are glorious events that take months of planning and execution by so many. Thank you for sharing your time as well as millions of dollars in treasure with so many of our community partners!
The Women of Saint Michael may well be the heart of this church that keeps its ministries flowing, and like our human hearts, you are wrapped in the Holy Spirit as you do your work and ministry. As we move into our new building and new season you once again will be a major part of this undertaking. Your gifts of hospitality and worship and beyond will provide a Christian welcome to those old and new who come to our community. I pray that this year of new possibilities and new spaces will be a blessing to you, as I know you will be a blessing to others through your continued service.
