We’re so glad you’ve joined us at Saint Michael today! We’d love to get to know you better, so please take a moment to fill out the welcome card, either physically or digitally, found on this page or in the pew back in front of you. Our Welcome Team members are in the hallways to help with anything you need. Our new Sunday classes are also in full swing, so check the back of your bulletin for the schedule of classes for all ages during the 10 a.m. hour. There are many to choose from, and we hope you’ll find one that fits your needs. Be sure to pick up a Sunday News handout for details about programs happening throughout the week, including those offered by the Women and Men of Saint Michael. A new season of Weekday Meditations begins Monday, September 14. As we emphasize the importance of prayer this year, these meditations are a wonderful way to make prayer a regular part of your day. Thousands have been listening, so why not give it a try?

Almighty and everliving God, who in thy holy Word hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men: Receive these our prayers which we offer unto thy divine Majesty, beseeching thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord; and grant that all those who do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity and godly love.
Give grace, O heavenly Father, to all bishops and other ministers, especially Sarah, Archbishop of Canterbury, Sean, our Presiding Bishop; and Rob, our Bishop; that they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth thy true and lively Word, and rightly and duly administer thy holy Sacraments.
And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace, and especially to this congregation here present; that, with meek heart and due reverence, they may hear and receive thy holy Word, truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life.

Dr. Carl W. Haywood earned master's degrees in Organ and Choral Conducting from Southern Methodist University. A soughtafter clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor, he works with schools, colleges, and churches nationwide, serving as national conductor for 105 Voices of History. His arrangement of the spiritual "There Is a Balm" draws on the balm of Gilead, its lush harmonies deepening a message of solace and renewal.

All are invited to come forward to the Communion rail at the direction of our ushers. Stand or kneel at the rail as you are able, and receive the wafer in the palm of your outstretched hands. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, clasp your hands in front of you with your palms down. Receive the wine by drinking from the chalice as it is offered to you, or by retaining the wafer, to dip lightly into the chalice for yourself. If you are not receiving, you may cross your arms over your chest and receive a blessing. Harold Friedell, a composer, organist, and teacher, served New York and New Jersey churches. A leader within the American Guild of Organists, he worked at St. Bartholomew’s in New York and taught at Union Theological Seminary. “Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether” sets text to a melody, describing the Eucharist’s power and community formed when “two or three are met together, thou [O God] art in the midst of them.”
