Today we celebrate the Third Sunday in Lent and it seems like this season is flying by! As we continue to journey through this Re , v. D ata sacred season together, focusing on r i r. C hristopher D. G our theme of Covenant, I hope you’re taking advantage of all our Lenten offerings. In addition to our sermon series, we have a weekday podcast series with meditations from our clergy, as well as Lent kits for your homes. We hope you will share images of your home altars with us by sending them to info@saintmichael.org or tag us online using #myhomealtar. Please continue working on our special Lenten service project, which you can read about on the next page. The gifts we create for our neighbors at Austin Street Center will make such an impact! If you still need a Lent kit, we have extras available for pickup at the church.

Last week, Gov. Abbott issued an Executive Order lifting the statewide face mask mandate. As I have stated from the beginning of this pandemic, we want to keep Saint Michael’s sacred community moving forward with courage and faithfulness, and we want to be part of the pandemic solution. Loving our neighbors and one another means that we must continue to remain vigilant to not spread this virus. In accordance with Bishop Sumner and the Diocese of Dallas, our Saint Michael protocols remain unchanged, including the requirement for facemasks and distancing while on campus. Please refer to our website for more specifics. Although it still feels far away, we are now only three weeks away from Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week. I encourage you to take a look at the Holy Week page of our website and begin making plans for how you will celebrate this special time with our Saint Michael Family. As always, there will be wonderful ways to give in celebration of Easter, including Easter flowers in honor or memory of loved ones and our Easter plate, given away in total to help the most vulnerable in our community.

This season of Lent, we are keeping the unhoused in prayer as we For more information on all of our Lenten opportunities, please visit saintmichael.org/lent. seek to provide for their needs. While 250 unhoused men and women live at Austin Street Center during the pandemic, there is some good news: 3-5 people per week are moving into new residences. We are assembling housewarming baskets for these men and women to welcome them to their new homes! Please participate with us in remembering all who need safe residence by praying for the ones who will receive these items and by collecting the items on the Lenten Calendar above. On Easter Sunday, please bring the collected items in a laundry basket to the West parking lot before the 6:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. services. We will deliver them!
IN-PERSON WORSHIP: A limited number of people may attend public worship services. Maskwearing and social distancing are still required on the Saint Michael campus. Registration for in-person worship services begins online each Monday at 10 AM CT, and tickets can be reserved at saintmichael.org/worshiptickets. Registered attendees now enter through the Saint Michael Episcopal School (SMES) Porte Cochère in the West parking lot due to upcoming construction on the North side of the campus. Health safety guidelines for those coming onto the campus may be found at saintmichael.org/ worshiptickets. VISITORS DURING THE WEEK should enter through the south entrance. Please schedule your group in advance with Tish Visinsky. WEDDINGS, FUNERALS, AND BAPTISMS are permitted outdoors in unlimited numbers, as long as households are distanced and masked. The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. Today’s postlude is Bach’s treatment of the third and final verse of the same penitential hymn as the prelude, now addressing the Holy Spirit, “the fountain of life and light”. The rhythm is quicker in this verse, and the melody is in the pedals: the Spirit enlivens the Church, and propels its mission. At the end, a highly chromatic section particularly draws to mind a final cry for mercy.
