I sincerely hope that you and your loved ones have been able to find ways to celebrate this new year safely. This Christmas Re season has been unusual, and yet , v. D a t ir a r. C we can be surprised by joy in the gift hristopher D. G of love we receive from God and share with one another. Today, we celebrate the Second Sunday of Christmas. Although it might seem odd, we often miss out on celebrating the Christmas season on two Sundays because we often jump ahead to Epiphany. This year, however, we have a second Sunday to consider and celebrate the gift of Christ’s Incarnation. Live worship at 9 AM CST and 11 AM CST is a wonderful way to be refilled for a new week. After our celebration today, we shift into a new church season. On Wednesday, January 6, we will celebrate Epiphany by gathering at 5:30 p.m. for outdoor worship and the burning of the greens. Our outdoor worship services are for all ages and have been well attended, with everyone in face masks and respecting safe physical distancing. I encourage you to attend, even in the cold, as we reconnect with one another and celebrate the gifts we carry to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We are also coming to the end of our Annual Giving push in support of our mission and ministry in 2021. Thanks to all who have already pledged their support, and if you haven’t yet, please do so today. Our engagement and reach expanded in 2020 and I have faith that we will continue to grow our impact in 2021—but we need you! Make your pledge and join us as we build God’s kingdom now. RETURN TO STEP B: Effective January 3, Bishop Sumner has directed all churches in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas to return to Step B of the COVID-19 Reopening Plan. This means that all indoor gatherings are limited to 20 people and public attendance at worship services is discontinued until further notice. Distribution of Communion will continue every Sunday from 12:15 – 1 p.m., with entry from the west side of the building. VISITORS DURING THE WEEK should enter through the south entrance. Those entering the building must be symptom-free, remain distanced from other households, wear a mask at all times, and complete a brief screening procedure. Please schedule your group in advance with Tish Visinsky. WEDDINGS, FUNERALS, AND BAPTISMS are permitted outdoors in unlimited numbers, as long as households are distanced and masked. This Christmas season, we introduce Mathias’ energetic setting of the hymn of the angels at the manger as a counterpart to his setting of the Sanctus which we began on the First Sunday of Advent. We will continue to use this Gloria until Lent. Notice how much the melody repeats itself as you follow along while the Choir sings. Mathias’ writing yields an exciting crescendo to the final phrase “in the glory of God the Father.”

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem every year for the festival of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Assuming that he was in the group of travelers, they went a day’s jour-

ney. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in great anxiety.” He said to them, “Why were you searching for me? The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
