We made it to the joyful season of Christmas! Although this season is filled with the joy and hope of the Incarnation, Re our reality is still difficult. As v. D ta, ir a r. C G . h r i st o p h e r D the pandemic continues to impact all of us to varying degrees, I want to encourage your continued prayers for all those who are sick and those who care for them. We might see the light at the end of our dark tunnel with the rollout of vaccines, but remaining vigilant in our concern for one another is still necessary.

All things considered, we can certainly find great hope in our faith. I recently spoke with my 92-year-old grandmother who remarked with vigor, “It’s a glorious day to be alive!” Indeed, it is, and we can be grateful for the marvelous, mysterious, miraculous gift of life.

SAFE GATHERINGS CONTINUE: A limited number of people may attend livestream worship on Sunday at 9 AM CST (Traditional) and 11 AM CST (Contemporary). At Communion services, consecrated wafers will be distributed as people enter the sanctuary and may be consumed individually at the end of the Eucharistic Prayer. Upon moving to Paris in 1750, Balbastre became a musical celebrity and was organist of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Chapelle royale, and in the French royal court where he taught Queen Marie-Antoinette. Eighteenthcentury France saw a great rise in the popularity of organists playing noëls. These charming miniatures are simple theme-and-variation pieces based on both secular and religious carols. This Christmas season, we introduce Mathias’ energetic setting of the hymn of the angels at the manger as a counterpart to his setting of the Sanctus which we began on the First Sunday of Advent. We will continue to use this Gloria until Lent. Notice how much the melody repeats itself as you follow along while the Choir sings. Mathias’ writing yields an exciting crescendo to the final phrase “in the glory of God the Father.”

Glory to you, Lord Christ.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. Henri Mulet
The son of the choirmaster at the monumental SacréCœur basilica in Paris, Mulet held academic and musical appointments in Paris. Composed 1911-1912, Carillon-Sortie is one of Mulet’s best known organ pieces. A toccata texture is used but largely in ways which imitate the effect of bells ringing. As we continue to celebrate the Christmas season, this piece’s joyous and celebratory atmosphere easily makes it wellsuited to our holiday season. The foregoing text of the worship service contained in this order of worship is taken from the Book of Common Prayer 1979. The Book of Common Prayer alone is of authority in the worship of the Episcopal Church. This program is provided for convenience of use on this occasion.
