NOTE S
As a parent of school-age children, I am keenly aware of the unique pressure and anxiety that is being felt this year. We all want our children, their teachers, and all school staff, to be safe. Even with so many thoughtful precautions being taken, there are many in our Saint Michael community who are worried about the gradual reopening of schools over these next few weeks. Although our concern can seem overwhelming at times, we are moving forward with faith and courage, together. The new Saint Michael school year begins this week, too. Beginning today, we will have new online formation opportunities for members of all ages. Worship continues, including the Joy Service for our youngest members, as well as lessons and studies that kick off over the next two weeks. I want to bring special attention to our digital teaching series for parents. This series, led primarily by our Saint Michael clergy, will focus on some of the most important topics that parents wrestle with, taking special care to focus on unique difficulties in our world today. Everything you need to know about offerings, programs, classes and more can be found in our new Fall Resource Guide, available now! Acknowledging the unusual start to a new school year, and with hope in our hearts, our prayers will be with all the students, teachers, and staff, inside and outside our church, who will be returning to school life, both physically and digitally. While we’re not gathering in large groups in the church building, we are gathering in small groups outside of the church walls: saintmichael.org/smallgroups, In addition, worship and formation are available online: saintmichael.org/live and saintmichael.org/liveformation. The church building is open for Distribution of Communion, Private Prayer, the Book Shop, and staff who need or wish to come in. Everyone should enter through the south side of the building on Colgate Avenue and be distanced, masked, and in groups of 10 or less. The elderly and vulnerable are encouraged to stay home. Outdoor committals and weddings continue to be the safest option, and numbers are not restricted as long as everyone is distanced and masked. Beginning September 1, in light of guidance from the Diocese, we will be able to accommodate up to 20 people (including church personnel) for committals, weddings, and baptisms in Saint Michael Chapel.
