This week I am filled with gratitude. I am grateful for the construction workers and landscapers putting the finishing touches on our beautiful new building and grounds. We look forward to welcoming everyone into the new space on August 2. Until then, thank you for your patience as we complete the final details and prepare the building for occupancy.
I am grateful for your generosity, which made this project possible. Your gifts, prayers, and faith have helped create a campus that will serve our community and glorify God for years to come.
I am grateful for the children, youth, and volunteers who participated in Youth Mission Week and Vacation Bible School. As God instructed Moses, “Recite these words to your children... when you lie down and when you rise” (Deut. 6:7). Our staff, volunteers, and families continue to faithfully live out this calling.
I am grateful for Pub Theology, which welcomed our wider community into thoughtful conversations about today’s challenges through the lens of Christian faith, extending God’s good news beyond Saint Michael’s walls.
And on July 5, we will enjoy one of Saint Michael’s most beloved traditions: Pie for the 4th of July! Thank you to our bakers and everyone who will join us as we give thanks for our country and seek to live more fully into its highest ideals.

The flowers adorning the altar are given to the glory of God and in celebration of Sherry's 80th birthday.
Georg Böhm spent nearly four decades as organist at St. Johannis in Lüneburg, where his playing made a lasting impression on the young J.S. Bach. This setting is built on the chorale "Vater unser im Himmelreich," Martin Luther's 1539 hymn paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer, with the melody woven through gently ornamented, flowing lines characteristic of the North German Baroque style.

The Lesson (seated) Romans 6:12-23
Do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to greater and g reater iniquity, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for sanctification. When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. So what advantage did you then get from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

Anton Bruckner, a 19th-century composer known for his traditional style and frequent revisions, is best remembered for grand choral and orchestral works, though he was also a skilled organist. This anthem showcases his sacred choral writing with elegant part-writing, lyrical lines, and subtle textural shifts. Note the sudden softness at “irreprehensibilis est”—a moment of reverence and awe for God’s greatness.

All are invited to come forward to the Communion rail at the direction of our ushers. Stand or kneel at the rail as you are able, and receive the wafer in the palm of your outstretched hands. If you desire a gluten-free wafer, clasp your hands in front of you with your palms down. Receive the wine by drinking from the chalice as it is offered to you, or by retaining the wafer, to dip lightly into the chalice for yourself. If you are not receiving, you may cross your arms over your chest and receive a blessing. If you are unable to physically come to the rail, please indicate to an usher that you would like to receive Communion at your seat.
Sir Henry Walford Davies (1869–1941) began as a chorister at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, and assistant to Walter Parratt. He studied under Parry and Stanford at the Royal College of Music, becoming a counterpoint teacher at 25. In 1898 he was appointed organist and choirmaster at the Temple Church. This anthem sets text from Keble's 1827 poem The Christian Year.
Théodore Dubois succeeded César Franck as organist at SainteClotilde, later led music at the Madeleine, and served as director of the Paris Conservatoire. This brisk fugal "sortie" — the French term for music accompanying the congregation's exit — closes the service with the bright contrapuntal energy typical of the French Romantic organ tradition.
