The Stephen Aylward ‘64 Endowed Fund for Social Studies was established in 2021 by the Aylward Family as an endowed fund whose earnings support Faculty and Academic Excellence through the SLUH Social Studies program.

THE IMPACT

This past academic year, as a department, we focused on research and research writing to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the new AI era. We also continued our work on grading and assessment, ensuring alignment with the AP curriculum and broader school initiatives.

’24 - ’25 HIGHLIGHTS

• Former teacher Sarah Becvar returns to the department as Director of Instruction and Observation after an administrative stint at Vianney High School.

• SLUH alum Tommy Phillips was hired to teach as an Alumni Service Corps member.

• 638 AP exams taken across the 7 AP classes offered

• 86% of students taking AP US History test scored a 4 or above

• Social Studies faculty moderated the following clubs this past academic year: Ignatian Business Leaders, Missouri Youth and Government Club, Mock Trial and Young Urban Planners.

• 98% of students taking AP US History test scored a 3 or above (global average: 74%)

• 90% of students taking AP Microeconomics test scored a 3 or above (global average: 68%)

• 91% of students taking AP Macroeconomics test scored a 3 or above (global average: 67%)
