Ignatian Business Leaders Club (IBL) is a supplementary club to AP Micro/Macro Economics classes at SLUH and has been re-branded as the ”Business Administration Club.“ This past year, club activities included hosting numerous guest speakers, Excel training classes and networking with local alumni for strategic planning with the goal of creating a Business Endorsement/Certificate program at SLUH. A highlight of the year was starting DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapters at SLUH.
Both FBLA and DECA are nationwide organizations that organize competitions at the local, state and national levels in a variety of presentational, role-playing and testing categories for aspiring business leaders. Between these two competitions, 16 SLUH students competed in the in-person categories, while an additional 13 competed solely in FBLA’s online objective tests in the Accounting I, Business Law, Economics, Financial Math, Personal Finance or Securities & Investments categories.
• DECA
Out of 70 categories, students may choose one and take a test on it, then complete additional steps such as a role play delivering a business pitch. Out of the brand new club’s 15 members, 10 attended the regional business pitch competition in February.
• FBLA
Two juniors advanced to state in the Securities & Investments categories, locking in at fifth place and first place out of 14 competitors in the category.
• IBL members visited the Krilogy St. Louis office
• 12 students attended the NYC Wall Street trip
• 9 students attended the The Silicon Valley Trip
• In year #1, our FBLA district competitors placed in 8 different events
• In year #1, our DECA district competitors placed in 6 different events
• 5 DECA students competed in the State competition in March, 2 advanced to compete at the national level
