JAMES COSTIGAN ’62 STEM FUND

The James Costigan ‘62 STEM Fund was established in 2022 by Ed Costigan Jr. ‘60 as an endowed fund whose earnings support the operation of the James Guth Costigan ‘62 Innovation Lab.

The Costigan STEM Fund supports the use of the 5,200 square-foot James Guth Costigan Innovation Lab, which includes an iLab, iLab classroom, fabrication shop and the robotics team room. These areas are used extensively by the Foundations of Engineering classes, the Computer-Aided Design classes, the Woodworking classes, the STEM Innovative Product Development classes as well as the Robotics team and the STEM club. They are also occasionally used by other non-STEM clubs and for individual projects. In the future, the area will also be used for the programmable electronics classes. Students use computers, 3D printers, laser cutters, a wide variety of woodworking machines and an assortment of hand tools to design and create.

‘24 - ‘25 HIGHLIGHTS

• We are in the process of updating our 3D printers and some other equipment in the fabrication shop.

• The new programmable electronics class will have space within the iLab area for their equipment and electronics including a soldering area equipped with electronics components like transistors, resistors, capacitors, LED lights and more.

I-LAB FEATURES AND EQUIPMENT

• I-Lab Features: Fabrication workshop, classroom, general workshop, STEM competition space, group meetings and planning spaces, storage and lockers

• I-Lab Equipment: 15 amp-¼” panel saw, 10” heavy duty bench grinder, 12 speed 17” floor drill press, band saw, jigsaw, impact driver, mitre saw, finish nailer, CNC router, 3D printers and laser cutters
