The purpose of the Francis Scholars program at SLUH is to afford all students the opportunity to have the complete SLUH experience, regardless of ability to pay. Francis Scholars are identified as students of greatest financial need. Earnings support expenses such as lunch, athletics, books, technology and immersion trips. The program is in its fifth year, having begun with a freshman class of 12 students. The first cohort graduated in May 2024 and all are currently enrolled in college, several as the first in their families.
While SLUH can provide opportunities to students, it is ultimately up to the students to take full advantage of them. This past academic year, Francis Scholars:
• Competed in football, basketball, racquetball, hockey, soccer, rugby, cross country and track, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, wrestling and participating on the rifle team
• Joined extra curricular clubs/groups such as the Asian Student Alliance, choir and mock trial
“I think I am most proud of my personal growth. I am definitely ready for whatever is to come in my time after high school because I have learned a lot and I have had great role models here who have provided me with wisdom and guidance for after high school.”
• Attended the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice and the Arrupe Leadership Conference
• Traveled with the band to Germany over spring break.
• One of the Francis Scholars was chosen by his parish to receive the MLK Model of Justice Award
• The previous school year three students received the Fr. Hagan Award (given to students who display a love for SLUH and an overall joy in attending school) and one received the Presidential Leadership Award
• There were numerous college athletic and academic scholarships

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to the young men of St. Louis U. High.
