2024-25 Academic Year Highlights
PREPARED FOR
VICTOR CHEN AND SELINA CHEN, M.D.
The Dr. Chingling Tai Fund for Advanced Chinese Language and Culture Studies was established by Chingling Tai and generously funded by her bequest in 2023. Earnings from the endowed fund support advanced Chinese language and culture studies at SLUH.

“This academic year, the SLUH Chinese program has provided students with a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, emphasizing language proficiency, cultural understanding and real-world application. The program integrates interactive activities, technology and cultural events like Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations to enhance learning. SLUH’s partnership with schools in Taiwan has created opportunities for students to interact in meaningful ways. This includes listening to and providing feedback for presentations on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) delivered by students from these partner schools.”
- Yude Huang
A key highlight is the program’s partnership with schools in Taiwan, which has enriched students’ experiences through:
• Hosting opportunities
• Virtual interactions on Zoom
These collaborations allow students to practice Chinese in authentic settings, engage in cultural exchange and build global connections. Together, these efforts have deepened students’ language skills, cultural competence and global perspectives, making the program a dynamic and impactful experience.
The department goal is to further support our students’ Chinese language achievements:
• Expand study abroad opportunities
• Enhance cultural immersion activities, providing resources for advanced learning
• Recognizing student accomplishments through awards or scholarships
