SEEING STARS

CORNWALL & DORSET 2026

Seeing

Stars, Cornwall and Dorset

Along the vast coasts of Cornwall and Dorset in SouthWest England are endless hills and escarpments which scoop and push winds and breezes up into a constantly turning sky.

Travelling along the ancient paths and roads that define long green hedges and the dusty windrow fields to the plunging coves and beaches - these infinitely varied landscapes defy cliché and elude any singular description to test the most dedicated hiker.

The stunning quays and beaches are populated with herons, rooks and gulls, all making a good living on the richly abundant coastal fare. Pheasants, badgers and hedgehogs seem fully aware that they are inhabiting a fairy tale environment of tranquility and of extremes.

To study and explore the staggering beauty of this part of the world gave me a taste and tone entirely new to my palette.

Steeped in a culture all its own and proudly aware of its grandeur, the Cornwall and Dorset coasts are cared for and provide for an impressively unique people, leavening the experience of being there.

Wherever a painter arrives for the first time is a trepidatious dance, a learning curve and a rhythm all anew, as in these paintings, the layers and discovery steer away from a portrait of a landscape and towards an adventurous story of light, tides and keenly observed terrains.
