First of all, I want to send a big THANK YOU for all the love and kind words from you for our first newsletter💕💕💕Your support means a lot to me!!! It has been a month since summer break and I hope you’re enjoying your time with friends, family, and even Key Club’s events. June was a busy month as our members and officers attended various events, from service to social to training conferences. In this issue of The Savvy Sun, you would be able to read the recaps of them as well as important news from the division/district. You could also check out our calendar for July to keep updated and a small Q&A part with our board members to get to know a little more about us! Hope to see you soon :)

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE|02
Hello Rebel Suns ☀🔑🥰! I hope your summer has been going great so far 😻. We are about halfway through at this point, and whether you are enrolled in summer school (geo is killing me), doing an internship, or just sitting in bed scrolling through TikTok, I hope that you are enjoying yourselves!! :) We are already A QUARTER of the way into the term…I really can’t believe that 😭. Time is truly flying by and I am enjoying serving as your president more than I ever expected 😊. Seeing you guys happy at events while giving back to your communities is where 95% of my happiness comes from as president, and I am proud of what you guys have accomplished. We already have 380 hours, over half of our 600 hour goal 🤯, and we have already fundraised 222 dollars for PTP, again, over half of our 400 goal 💸💸💸 (ignore the typo in the previous newsletter lol). I thank you all for your help in achieving that and I hope you can continue to be engaged<3
Some notable moments for me throughout the past month have been June DCM/OTC and our recent social. OTC was a really cool experience for me as I got to meet many people in person from across the region for the first time and it was really exciting for me 🤩. As far as our recent Banana Bash social, I am very happy with how it turned out. We had great attendance, seeing the members have fun while serving was wonderful, and honestly, the gimmicky theme was so entertaining 🍌🍌🍌

03|JUNE DCM/ OTC
June 11, 2022 On Saturday, June 11th, the officer training conference took place along with the June DCM. Most officers from Region 3 were present, and this event took place in Costa Mesa High School from 11 am to 5 pm. We checked in up until 11:45, and then we had a guest speaker who talked about her journey with Key Club, some ways it was able to help her throughout her years in high school, and how she is still involved today. Later on, around noon, we were given lunch, which was pizza yes! After our lunch was over, we did a short ice breaker which we, the people in the back, were a bit confused about what we had to do, but we just did what we thought was right and still had fun. Then we started, we had our June DCM, and then we talked a bit with our own school club members, took some selfies, and then we went inside the theater. In the theater, the LTGs introduced themselves and did a small, but funny sketch of their rendition of the princess and the frog. It was a nice opening ceremony where the LTGs were able to speak with us, and just send us off to our first workshop. Our first one was based on our position, and so I was in the bulletin editor/historian workshop. This was very helpful and fun because we got to meet other people in the same position, and learn more ways we can improve posts, using graphics, or fonts. It was basically almost like a curriculum, and it was very helpful to learn more about similar positions. Our workshop ended early so we just talked for a bit, asked some questions,

and got to know a few things about the other officers in the room. Then when the first
workshop was over we had a ten-minute break and went to our second workshop at 3, this was we were given the freedom to choose where we wanted to go. I went to the Officer expectations + Duties workshop, which was a rundown of what each member does, and the importance of communication between each one of us. We were also shown some great examples of templates for service hours, an idea of how we can help the other members in our club, and who we can communicate with if we ever need assistance. Lastly, after the second workshop finished we went back to the theater for the closing session where a guest speaker came to tell us about the children's book festival. We were also informed about some upcoming events, and then it was over. We were told that we can go now, and that was the day. 05|FOOD BANK
June 19, 2022 On Saturday, June 18th of 2022, the first division food bank was held at Savanna High School, from 8am to 12pm. Our division has partnered up with the Saddleback Church to help distribute food and supplies. It happened to be super humid that day and the funny thing is that most of the volunteers were wearing black. Anyhow, volunteers from division 30 south all showed up around 8am for the check-in with Ryan Dang, our division service project coordinator. After the check-in was an announcement from the adults, who created the event; once the announcement was finished, we all received a small bible from the church and went to the workstations that we chose. My friend Yumeih, who is the technician for Savanna Key club, and I went to the pet food station for our first pick. After being at this station for about 30 minutes, we were out of all the dog and cat food, so Yumeih and I decided that we would move to another station to help out the others. That is when we chose to pass out the chargers and binder clips, people were very nice to us when they received their supplies, but after these supplies ran out, we went to help the station next to us to pass out the milk and eggs. Around 11am, the adults of this event offered free snow cones for all the volunteers. I chose blue raspberry and grape flavors, while Yumeih chose blue raspberry and cherry flavor. Oh man, how she loved it so much that she went for second and I stayed with only one snow cone. When we finished our snow cones was when the food bank had almost come to an end. We walked around the place for a bit to see what food or supplies were left, luckily the ladies were so generous, so she allowed both of us to take some bread home. Overall, I’d say that this was an amazing and fun event. I felt really good that I got to participate in this and help pass out food and supplies to those in need. By Giang Ong | Secretary
BANANA BASH|06
June 25, 2022 Savanna, Western, JFK, and Oxford Academy Key Club all collaborated to create a fun, exciting social event for all of our schools to enjoy. On June 25th, we gathered together to participate in a Minions-themed service project, fun activities, and support various fundraisers each club was putting on. The food sales included mostly banana-flavored and Minions-themed foods! There were also Minion temporary tattoos, which many people seemed to enjoy. This social really allowed us to meet people from other schools and get to know one another. It was fun seeing everyone interact so comfortably with each other. It shows how welcoming and embracing Key Club is as a community. During the service project, we got to make Minion puppets! Everyone made their puppets unique and added individualistic attributes, as well. There was also a Minions-themed icebreaker, which I enjoyed. At the end of the social, we got to do a pinata. In order to get a chance to hit it, you would have to answer a Key Club related question. By like the fourth hit, the pinata was fully destroyed and candy flew all over the place. Overall, this collaborative social was a very fun experience, and I hope similar events are held in the future.

07|KIWANIS FLAG DAY PARADE
June 12, 2022 Flag Day is a holiday that isn't recognized much by most people in my area, but I think what Kiwanis did in celebration of the holiday was pretty cool. The city of Anaheim had a parade on June 12th to celebrate flag day, where many cars and decorated vehicles passed down the street, all embracing the patriotic symbol. What I did as a key clubber was help with the setup of the Kiwanis booth, as well as the setup of the stage. Decorating the stage was super fun to me because there were a lot of accessories and we had full creative freedom. Once the show started however, all I had to do was monitor the Kiwanis table until it was time for us to serve ice cream and cupcakes at the very end. I had my two friends Julia and Jasmine Chieng come later in the day and it was fun hanging out with them and serving at the same time. After we served ice cream and cupcakes to the guests, we helped take down the Kiwanis booth, put everything into the Kiwanis advisors' cars, and that was the event. I found it very fun to help at this small but very festive event. By Hani Kazanji| President
