A message from your editor… HELLO SUNNIES, welcome to The Savvy Sun's first issue! My name is Nancy Le, and I am honored to serve as Bulletin Editor of Savanna Key Club for the 2022-2023 term. A little about myself, I am a rising junior. I've been in Key Club since sophomore year, and this is my first year as an officer. As the new term begins and summer approaches, I hope to see our members attend different events, DCMs, and socials to connect with other members of our division! HEY HEY HEY REBEL KEY-UTIES!💛☀ My name is Hani Kazanji, and I will proudly be serving as Savanna Key Club’s president for the 2022–2023 term! This term is something that I am extremely excited for😻; I am relatively new to Key Club, as I only joined last August, however, it did not take me long to realize how fun this club was and how rewarding it felt😊. I was able to experience things like being on the 2021 Spirit Committee, attending my first training conference, going to the Rose Float decorating, being on the 2022 Division Judging Committee, and so much more, and these experiences have been truly amazing💯. Throughout my participation in all of these events, I was able to meet so many amazing people around the division and it's all been fun🤩. This term is obviously going to look different as now I lead Savanna Key Club, and that just makes me all the more excited! The term is already off to a great start with our boba plushie fundraiser🧋and some service events like the Greek Festival that we have had, so I can't wait for more. I have some ambitious goals for Savanna Key Club this year, those being getting 600 service hours by DCON 2023, raising $600 for the PTP charity by Fall Rally South 2022💸, and getting 20 dues paid Savanna Key Club members. These are all going to be big step-ups from the last term, however I believe they are fully achievable, and me and my officers will ensure that these goals are met‼ I just want to give a big thank you to all our members that have participated in our fundraisers and service events so far; we hope that you are as excited as we are for the term💛. I also want to thank my officers for helping me so much these past two months as I was struggling figuring everything out; I can't wait to work with you guys more💪. With all that being said, I hope you enjoy the first edition of our newsletter!💛💛💛

03|PTSA AWARDS NIGHT

During the PTSA awards night, both of our Vice presidents; Janessa Mora and Gilberto Navarro, worked at the Key Club booth along with some other members in which we sold both chocolate chip cookies and brownies to the arriving parents, students, and staff that had come to see the recognition of the students in many different categories. President Hani being part of various clubs was helping in each one and even publicized our booth place on Instagram using the story feature in which he expressed to the members that they should come by to buy something in order to support the club. All in all, it was a very pleasing experience as it allowed people to see the bonding of the club and how it works as a “colony of bees” (catch the pun) rather than just a group of individuals. CARDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT|04
April 27, 2022 To show our support for kids who are suffering from terminal illnesses and are in need of inspiration, the key club’s board and its members came together and made cards of encouragement to show that these kids are not alone. Kids who are isolated and are missing out on their childhood experience can be devastating. But with these cards, it can make a huge impact on them showing how special they are and how they are not forgotten because they are sick. It makes a child feel valued and important. A single card can change a child’s day for the better, making it brighter. The club had to make an ongoing theme for the cards to make it more uniform and it was a great collaborating experience as everyone in the club shared their own ideas. It also gave them freedom in creativity as they used symbols to show their support and love to those in need. Everyone had a great time making cards, coming up with new ideas, and collaborating with each other as we worked together as a team to put our heart and soul into these cards, so we can show these kids that there are people out there that really care and how they are not forgotten. 05|APRIL DCM
April 30, 2022 On Saturday, April 30th, April DCM, the first DCM of the 2022-2023 term, was held at Modjeska Park. After checking in, we gathered together to listen to the LTG introduce the presidents of the new term from different Key Clubs within the Division. Following that, we began the first icebreaker. We were given a random card with three facts about someone on it that was written during the check-in process to find that person. It was chaos as everyone tried to find out who wrote these facts by stating them aloud. The icebreaker ended when we all found each other and learned some fun facts about our new friends:) Unlike usual, we began our service activities and games before the DCM. We had three options: playing cross paper scissor hula hoop, making cards for the elderly, and buying food from fundraisers. I first went to the service activity table to make cards with short messages for the elders. The hula hoop area was fun. We

split into two groups and hopped to the center to play cross paper scissors. It was a great opportunity for us to make new friends when we teamed up to beat the other one. To reset after working and playing hard, we bought Spam Musubi and Lychee Lemonade from Cypress Key Club to support their fundraiser. The Spam Musubi was YUMMY😋 After spending time on fun activities, we started our April DCM. Firstly, we began with announcements and recognitions. And HOORAY! Savanna was recognized as the 4th Shining Club of the Month🎊 I felt excited because our spirit and hard work for the new term were recognized💛. This meaningful recognition is my motivation to contribute to the club to help it grow stronger. Then came the most exciting part: THE REVEAL OF THE NEW D30S LEADERSHIP TEAM🌟 Listening to the LTG share their dedications and accomplishments, I can’t wait to see these individuals work together to bring us an amazing term! 07|OC GREEK FESTIVAL
May 14, 2022 The celebration of different cultures is something that is extremely valuable in our day and age. On Saturday, May 14, in Anaheim, the OC Greek Fest took place. There, friends and families reunited to enjoy a few aspects of Greek culture. There was a variety of different foods, clothing, games, and more. Key Club members were assigned to work the games that were available to everyone. Many valuable skills were learned in different booths, ranging from handling money to watching over kids. Everyone there seemed to have a great time with each other, which brought even more joy. The event was something very enjoyable, especially because there was so much assistance provided for the members and because many of us gained a new experience. I would most definitely help out at the Greek Fest again because the place felt so united, and the people there were extremely kind and welcoming. Honestly, despite the heat, it was a great event that made me more curious about Greek culture, and it widened my perspective, a bit, about the differences and similarities that many of us share. I, along with Publicist, Ulises, worked on the money. We sold MANY tickets and wristbands to parents and children, and it was quite funny to see the kids’ reactions to everything. So many of them were extremely eager to go on every single ride, and that made mine and Ulises’ job so much more enjoyable. By Amanda Hernandez| Service Chair
