Contact is the SKA magazine. Published by SKAO's Communications team, the magazine brings together articles from scientists, engineering, design and construction teams, related facilities and telescopes and government partners. In this special issue we celebrate what is perhaps the biggest milestone in the SKA project’s 30-year history: the start of construction activities for the SKA telescopes! Following the creation of the SKA Observatory earlier this year, we also cover the launch of our new SKAO brand, recent news from SKA pathfinders, and focus on our second Science Data Challenge currently taking place. Fittingly as we embark on a new era, we talk about one of the SKA project's original goals: to study the dawn of the Universe! We also meet TeamSKA’s Dr Lourdes Verdes-Montenegro from Spain, and take a deep dive into sustainability with an Insight on the Observatory’s renewable energy plans.
