Faster, safer building evacuations with Advanced Dynamic Safety Signage

Fire and life safety systems manufacturer, Advanced, has extended its emergency lighting range with Dynamic Safety Signage (DSS) – proven to make building evacuations faster and safer.

In emergency situations, lack of information and confusion mean people often make poor decisions. DSS uses green moving and pulsing LED arrows to clearly indicate safe exits and red LED crosses to boldly show nogo areas. This distinctive indication supports effective escape and avoids congestion at exits.

DSS is ideal for settings where large numbers of people may be unfamiliar with emergency escape routes, e.g. university campuses, hospitals, stadiums and transport hubs. The new range of signage provides different tiers of functionality making it very versatile in meeting requirements across a wide range of sites and scenarios.

Dynamic safety signage hardware consists of recessed, IP65 wall-mounted and wall/ceiling-mounted escape signs that are easy to install, can be retrofitted onto existing systems and provide a fully auto-tested system when used with LuxIntelligent, ensuring compliance with BS5266-1. DSS can be triggered manually via a key switch, or automatically by integrating with any existing fire system using simple input/output modules.

PFIFFNER Group to launch high voltage circuit breaker with innovative eco-compatible arc interruption method

Switzerland-based transmission and distribution component specialist PFIFFNER Group has announced a new high voltage air-insulated switchgear (AIS) circuit breaker for substations which uses an SF6-free and F-gas free as its insulation media, helping to set a new standard for the safe and sustainable operation of electrical grids.

The circuit breaker, currently in the development stage, will complement the company’s growing portfolio of high voltage solutions while helping customers to reduce their carbon footprint in a cost-effective way.

Sulphur hexafluoride, commonly known as SF6, is a man-made gas utilised primarily as an electrical insulator and arc suppressant. While extremely effective in circuit breaker applications, it is also one of the most harmful greenhouse gases in existence. As such, component manufacturers in the electrical grid sector have been seeking solutions in recent years to limit its usage. PFIFFNER‘s solution instead uses an eco-compatible gas that eliminates the use of SF6 and F-gases entirely.
