FROM THE
PRESIDENT Dear Members, Welcome to 2024! In the past year, San Jose continued to take steps to preserve our family-oriented culture and purposely enhance your member experience. The next 12 months will be filled with many strategic conversations and supporting and building upon the traditions that make this Club thrive. First, I would like to thank Steven Frick and the Board of Governors for their leadership in 2023 and guidance though some challenging events. We appreciate their time and commitment to serve in these volunteer-based positions. Additionally, I would also like to express our gratitude to the staff for their efforts to provide a great member atmosphere filled with quality and kindness. As we move into 2024, we will work toward establishing a long-term strategic plan that will set our blueprint for the foreseeable future. This is a vital step in the lasting growth of the Club, as well as retaining and onboarding members. You will be asked to participate in surveys and interviews to help steer its direction. Please participate so we have input to help guide us in the decision process. You’ll learn more about this initiative during our annual meeting on the evening of February 7. Like all clubs are currently facing, some operational challenges will persist in 2024. We will remain focused on our financial objectives while striving to uphold a service level that our members have come to expect and deserve. In doing so, we will be transparent to our membership each month. With that said, it’s important to understand that a club only survives through its membership and their usage. I encourage you to be present, enjoy our services and refer new members so we can continue to grow the legacy of San Jose Country Club. In 2025, we will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the building of San Jose. Last year, we recognized our 75th anniversary as the official San Jose Country Club. Our theme for 2024 is: Embrace the Tradition - Old and New. Because I have been coming to San Jose since 1968 as a kid, it’s more than just a place for me. It’s a home away from home, and I want to ensure it prospers for many more centuries. I appreciate the opportunity to serve the Club and look forward to working on behalf of the Board and the members to guide us for the next year.

ALL MEMBER MEETING Per Article VI, Section 6.1 of the Club’s By-Laws, the San Jose Country Club Board of Governors will host an Annual Meeting of the Members on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 6:00 pm. With an extraordinary 2023 for our industry, it is imperative that we look back on what we have learned and stay present to what we are still learning so that we can continue to move forward. Please join us in the Ballroom as Ladson Montgomery and Immediate Past-President, Stephen Frick Jr. review the Club’s accomplishments in 2023 and presents our strategic goals for 2024. A MESSAGE FROM THE CHEF Dear Esteemed Members, As we embark into the new year of gastronomic delights, it is my pleasure to be here at San Jose Country Club. My first 120 days have been rich and fulfilling. I am thrilled to have found a home here at SJCC, and work with a fantastic and eager membership going forward in 2024. I am excited to announce that Chef Tera Parker has joined us to bolster the strength of our team, in the role of Chef d’ Cuisine. Chef Tera comes to us from Jekyll Island club, with a wealth of professional kitchen knowledge and skill. Along with myself, her vision and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to our overall success. For 2024, the team is also looking forward to changing the dining room menu more often, while keeping the ability to provide the classics…. just because it’s not on the printed menu, doesn’t mean we can’t provide it! Since 1947 we have strived to be Jacksonville’s favorite gathering place for families and guests who cherish and share high quality lifestyle standards as our mission states in our pursuit of excellence. We as a club should take appreciation in what we are able to enjoy each day and make it a priority to take part in course care. Please be reminded it is our responsibility to help maintain our beautiful golf course by filling divots, raking bunkers, fixing ball marks, and parking golf carts in the appropriate areas. Be an advocate for your club and help set a good example of what it means to be an exceptional member here at San Jose. It is your club, and we are all here to strive for excellence. Members, are you aware that you receive a member discount when purchasing apparel in the golf shop? All members receive a 25% discount on all apparel throughout the year. This is only included on clothing. Starting in January be on the lookout for our new golf logo, it is sure to generate some excitement for the start of 2024. Of course, we will continue to have the club logo on all apparel but wanted to bring a fresh new look to our merchandise operation for 2024. Congratulations to our 2024 Nicks Cup Champions. Dear San Jose Members, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support and kindness upon my arrival in June. Since my arrival, the weather has been particularly harsh, resulting in more days of cart path only than any of us would have liked. It is not lost on me your desire to be off the paths, or that of the golf shops to generate revenue. The decision of going cart path only is not taken lightly and is generated to protect the golf course. As we all know, an El Nino winter has been predicted, which could have a significant impact on our golf course. We can expect wet, cool, and overcast days that will likely result in being restricted to the cart paths. Due to the lack of sun and heat, the course may not dry out as quickly, which could lead to turf loss. To mitigate any potential damage caused by cart traffic, we aim to be proactive and take necessary measures to protect the course. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time. TENNIS NEWS AND EVENTS MEN’S SUPER MONDAY’S Men’s Tennis Super Monday’s are a great way to get some great exercise after the holiday season. Dorian will host “Pizza Night” on January 15th. Reservations are a must for Super Monday’s and should be made before 2:00 p.m. on the day of the event by registering on Tennis Scores.

Congratulations... to the San Jose 18U Junior tennis team for their success. This group of young athletes won their division in Jacksonville. Their hard work and dedication paid off, with a well-deserved spot at Sectionals where they competed against players from all over the state. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishment and look forward to cheering them on in the upcoming Spring season! FITNESS & AQUATICS NEWS AND EVENTS It’s a new year for San Jose Country Club and with the new year comes a lot to be excited about in the Fitness and Aquatics Department! We are excited to partner with you as you begin or continue on your wellness journey to make 2024 the best year yet! The new year brings new beginnings and we are here to help you in any way to get you moving in the right direction. Speaking of new beginnings, we are so excited to begin the renovation of the fitness and tennis center which will include a complete renovation of the fitness center, tennis pro shop, locker rooms and more! We are beginning to transition everything out of the space in preparation for the demolition. Stay tuned for bi-weekly updates, pictures of construction progress and exciting new features to come. We would also like to welcome our new Director of Fitness and Aquatics, Robert Rudder. Robert has spent his entire career in the health and wellness space and is excited to be here. CUBS CORNER JANUARY 2024 EASY MOZZARELLA CHEESE SNOWMAN SNACK INGREDIENTS ½ Cucumber Mozzarella Cheese Pearls 2 Slices Carrot Handful Black Sesame Seeds INSTRUCTIONS Cut 12 rounds, each around 1 cm thick, from the cucumber. Using a mini round cutter, cut circles from the cucumber slices to form the bases of your snowmen. Push a cocktail stick into the top of a cucumber slice so that it is standing vertically. Carefully push two mozzarella pearls onto the cocktail stick to make the snowman body and head. Cut the carrot slices into tiny triangle wedges for the snowman noses. Push a carrot nose into the head piece of the snowman. Add black sesame seed eyes and buttons to the snowman, pressing them gentlyto the mozzarella pearl to stick them in place (you might find this easier to do with tweezers if you have them).
