FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members,

As we move into February, I want to share an update on several important areas of focus for your Board of Governors, and to personally invite you to our upcoming Annual Meeting.

2026 Board Goals and Priorities

At our January Board Retreat, the Board and management team aligned on a clear set of priorities and goals to guide the Club through 2026. Our focus this year is on strengthening governance, improving transparency and communication, and ensuring that all Board and committee efforts are directly aligned with the Club’s Strategic Plan.

A key component of this commitment is expanding direct communication with the membership. Beginning this year, the Board will host quarterly meetings open to the membership, available both in person and virtually, to share updates on Club initiatives, financial results, and strategic priorities. These sessions are intended to give members greater visibility into the work of the Board and an opportunity to hear directly from Club leadership on a regular basis.

Simply put, the Board’s role is to provide clear direction, thoughtful oversight, and accountability—while empowering management to execute. We are committed to making decisions that are timely, data-driven, and well-communicated, with the long-term health of the Club always front and center.

Responding to the Member Survey

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in the recent member survey. The response rate was strong, and the feedback was candid and valuable. The Board and committee leadership have carefully reviewed the results, and the survey is serving as a foundational input to our 2026 goals and priorities for the year ahead.

Many of the 2026 focus areas for the Board and its committees and the specific action items we are developing are directly informed by the survey results. As those action plans are finalized, we will communicate clearly what we heard, what actions we are taking, and how progress will be measured. Your feedback is not only being acknowledged; it is actively shaping the Board’s agenda and committee work.

Annual Meeting – February 4 at 6:00 PM

I encourage all members to attend our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, February 4 at 6:00 PM. This meeting is an important opportunity to hear updates on the Club’s financial position, governance initiatives, and priorities for the year ahead. It is also a chance to engage directly with the Board and management and to ask questions about the direction of the Club.

Your participation matters. A strong, engaged membership is essential to the continued success of San Jose Country Club.

Thank you for your continued involvement, feedback, and support. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Annual Meeting and around the Club.

Dear San Jose Members,

As always, thank you for being such an engaged and supportive golf membership. We truly appreciate your partnership in helping our golf operations run smoothly and keeping the course in great condition for everyone to enjoy

Members are encouraged to sign all tickets and request a receipt to ensure accurate billing and timely posting to your account. Statements can be reviewed online at any time, and our Administration team is happy to assist if needed.

All golfers must register prior to practice or play, including use of the driving range Please check in at the Golf Shop counter before heading out For safety reasons, we ask that members avoid cutting through the fitness, tennis, or pool areas and instead stop by the Golf Shop so we know you are on property in the event of an emergency.

A friendly reminder that even soft spikes can damage greens, please be mindful to pick up your feet and repair marks you make, small efforts like these help keep putting surfaces smooth and enjoyable for all

Broken tees are trash and should be disposed of properly, not left on the course. When removing your ball or replacing the flagstick, please take extra care to protect cup edges so they remain in excellent condition throughout the day.

Your help in filling divots, raking bunkers, and repairing ball marks is essential Sand bottle stations are located behind the Golf Shop and at the #3/#13 and #7/#15 water stations, with refill stations at #3/#13 and the #4 green. Each golfer plays a role in leaving the course better than they found it, thank you for your continued effort.

If you do not currently have a locker, you may be missing out on one of the Club’s best conveniences Locker rentals provide easy access to your golf wardrobe and gear, making it simple to be ready for anything Please contact the Golf Shop staff if we can assist with a locker rental.

Once again in 2026, Full Golf Members will have the opportunity to purchase discounted guest packages. Passes are sold in 6-packs, with a maximum of two 6-packs per member annually. Stop by the Golf Shop for more information.

It’s hard to believe we are already in 2026 The past few years have been memorable, and we are incredibly proud of our staff, who care about serving you. We welcome your feedbackthe good, the bad, and yes, even the ugly because it helps us continually improve. Our focus moving forward is simple: we are in the happiness business. We are here to listen, to serve, and to work alongside our Golf & Grounds Committee to engage members in caring for our greatest asset - The Course

Thank you for your support, respect for the game, and commitment to San Jose We look forward to another outstanding year together.

Warm regards,

Todd Bork

Golf Shop Management Team

2026 will be a HUGE year at San Jose Country Club. Coming off the 100-year anniversary, the board made two key decisions in hiring Andrew Green for a full golf course master plan & ELM for a full facilities plan. The course is better than ever, thanks to Josh and his team, & the membership story is extremely positive. The golf committee has big plans too. This year there will be an extreme focus on COURSE CARE & membership experience! Here are some highlights for January:

Course Care Item -Raking the Bunkers, let’s address the elephant in the room…. Some members and guests are not raking the bunkers at all, & some could benefit from a little instruction on how to do it properly. We need to do better & see below for a few tips

Always try to enter the bunker from the low sides to protect the lips/slopes

Rake bunkers regardless of your shoe type!

Rake the bunker in a pushing motion, lightly spreading the sand

AVOID pulling sand towards you, leaving “humps” and uneven areas of sand

Leave the rakes on the low sides, away from common entry points

Course Playability and Course Updates - The golf committee (and board) could not be happier with the work Josh has done in his 2.5 years in the position. He faced some real challenges coming in with our out-of-date drainage and irrigation systems, poor construction, & soil issues & is systemically moving us in the right direction. Change takes time!

Playability: You’ll notice green speeds may vary quite a bit during the winter season

The priority is health Josh and team are always preparing for what’s to come

During the warmer days we may see slower speed to prepare for the cold days

Color changes are common, course may “brown out” after frost/freezes.

Poa Annua story: A huge win for San Jose

We have herbicide resistant Poa

Josh, with the help of Dr Brosnan from the University of Tennessee, developed a plan to control the spread through chemical treatments & agronomic practices

I.E. keeping the rough longer the year helps reduce weed germination.

Focusing on turf health so Bermuda can outgrow Poa

Tree Care: Tree removal is part science and part art

Shade is a major issue for turf health

Tree roots can spread over 100 feet and damage surrounding greens

Clearing some of the cluttered areas improves sunlight, airflow and aesthetics

Josh has 100% support from Golf and Grounds with his tree program

Finding Andrew Green - The process of finding him and why he was chosen

We can’t emphasize enough how fortunate we are to have hired Andrew Green to develop our golf course master plan. He is considered one of, if not, the best restoration architects in the world. His resume speaks for itself (Congressional, East Lake, Oak Hill, Scioto, Inverness Etc) and he’s being featured all over social media and golf news. It was just announced that he won Golf Digests Renovation of the year for Chevy Chase CC! Here’s an insight into the selection process: The interviewing committee was formed to represent a variety of demographics

Started with a list of about 12 top architects, all of which had interest

Narrowed the list down to 3 finalists

The committee played courses renovated by the finalists Andrew sent us to Scioto, the home of Jack Nicklaus. By their account, he was a godsend to that club. He brought it back to life and gave them a course that was not only beautiful, but fun to play and easy to maintain ... in the end the choice was easy.

Member Experience - We want to hear from you on how we can make your golf experience better

This section is last this month, but arguably the most important. The committees and staff are always thinking about ways to make the golf experience better, but we need your help If there are any things, large or small, that we can do to make your experience better we want to hear from you

Thank you, Matt Saxton 2026 Golf Committee Chair
