How to enrol Autumn Term enrolment opens 11th July and there are three easy ways to enrol: • By phone on 01606 810020 / 810025 • In person at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College (Term time only Monday – Friday, 9am – 3pm, except bank holidays) • Online by downloading and returning an enrolment form at www.sjd.ac.uk Course Fees: Please note that all courses must be booked in advance and paid for at the time of booking Short courses: (14 weeks or less) must be paid in full at the time of enrolment – you can pay either in person, by telephone or post, using cash, cheque, credit or debit card (excluding American Express and Diners Club) Long courses: (15 weeks or more) can be paid in full at the time of enrolment or as 50% at enrolment and 50% via a postdated cheque.
Fee remission You may be entitled to full or partial remission of course fees if • You are in receipt of full state benefits • You are an individual who has not reached GCSE level C or above in English and Maths and is enrolling on GCSE English or Maths courses. There is no fee remission on dance, exercise, music, singing or Saturday classes. There is also no remission for examination fees. Refunds: Refunds cannot be given if you withdraw within 2 weeks of the start of any course or once the course has started. A non-refundable administration fee of £20 per course is incorporated into all fees and is charged to all students, including those who qualify for full remission of tuition fees.
Other information: Courses with fewer than the relevant minimum number of students may, at the discretion of the College, have the option of continuing, on payment of a supplementary fee. The College cannot guarantee that the courses listed in this prospectus will run, or that they will be repeated in future programmes. Fees may be subject to change because of government funding reviews, which can happen at any time. Current fees will always be confirmed at enrolment and updated on our website as soon as we are aware of any changes. The entire College is a no-smoking area and therefore smoking is forbidden anywhere on the College site, including the Leisure Centre. Students and tutors who need to smoke should do so off the College grounds.
If we have to cancel a course because of low enrolment, a full refund will be given.

We will cover the key content areas: Statistics and Probability, Number and Algebra, Geometry and Measures. An Introduction to Adobe Lightroom for Photographers
This course is designed for people who want to take the next step with their digital camera as a creative tool. Practical tasks are a key feature to reinforce the theory moving away from the auto button and looking at the aperture setting, shutter speed, ISO and white balance. Composition in portrait and landscape and night photography will also feature. Additionally we look at the work of famous photographers past and present and what makes a ‘good’ photograph. This is a follow up 8 week course for those who have completed the first level. In this course you will learn the importance of correct focussing, exposure compensation, using filters and an area of the camera rarely used, ‘picture styles’. The rear LCD screen and the mysteries of the camera are comprehensively covered together with much more. Chinese Flower Painting Chinese flower painting and calligraphy date back 5000 years and involve bold, expressive strokes. Dressmaking – Onwards and Upwards Already a basic sewer? Can you use a sewing machine confidently and master basic patterns and dressmaking, but would like to go further with a more tailored finish? Textile Design Have you heard about free machine embroidery and Feltmaking and would love to have a go? Royal Yachting Association Day Skipper Course No previous experience is necessary This course provides an initial appreciation of

Royal Yachting Association Coastal/ Offshore Theory Course An advanced course ideal for candidates for the Coastal Skipper practical course and Yachtmaster® Offshore exam. It has some provision for revising the Day Skipper shore based course and covers more advanced skills in offshore and coastal navigation by day and night, pilotage, collision avoidance, meteorology and an introduction to electronic navigation. Learn to read music – beginners Learn the basics of music reading! Have you ever wondered what all the squiggles mean? This is the class to teach you. Singing for Beginners This course is aimed at bringing people together to sing purely for the fun of it. It is open to anyone who enjoys singing, even those who think they cannot sing. Digital Photography for Beginners Part 1 (Part 2– 3/12/16) This introductory course is for students who are new to computers or have basic computing skills. They will be guided through the basics of digital camera use and given information about the settings they offer such as auto, landscape, portrait and sports mode. Students will learn how to take, upload, and manipulate photographs using basic editing software. Once confident students will produce exciting photographs and create gift ideas. Mindfulness for health and wellbeing: an introductory workshop This workshop aims to increase our awareness so that we can make a choice to respond to life’s ups and downs rather than reacting on autopilot. Mindfulness can help us to feel more calm and relaxed and to manage stressful situations or chronic pain, allowing us to live life more fully and access greater health and wellbeing. This course covers everything you need to know on helping a sick, injured or ill child, prior to the arrival of the emergency services. Tangling for Mindfulness Described as ‘Yoga for the brain’ tangling has become increasingly popular as a method of art meditation. Zentangling is the production of beautiful and unique artwork by focussing on one line at a time. It can be enjoyed by all ages, and at any level of art ability. In the morning, the course considers the benefits of the practice; some forms to use; adapting forms with shading; shadows and auras. Watercolours – Autumn Landscapes - A list of materials required will be provided on enrolment In this session we will use painting techniques to capture the effect of autumn trees in the landscape. Emergency First Aid - 1 Day Appointed Person Course - Certificated by Sir John Deane’s College. This introductory course will enable you to act as an appointed person within the work place and is also for those who would like some knowledge of First Aid. Introduction to Documentary Photography
NEW This course is designed to guide you through the concept of documentary photography. Whether you plan to photograph a wedding, a family party or an annual public event. You will be shown how to plan and build a story board that will help you clarify what it is you are trying to photograph. You will learn the basics of your cameras creative controls and study good composition. Provided your camera can be manually operated in creative mode ie. Aperture, Speed, ISO etc and is not a film camera then it will be suitable for the course. A Bridge or D.S.L.R. camera is ideal.
