ON THE RISE

There’s something about this time of year that feels like momentum. May and June don’t ask for permission — they arrive with longer days, louder energy, and a quiet pressure to step into whatever you’ve been putting off. It’s the season where ideas either stay ideas… or become real.

At Simply The Best Magazine, we’re leaning all the way into that energy.

Because behind every successful brand, every growing business, every name that’s starting to ring louder — there’s a moment where someone decided to move. Not perfectly. Not with all the answers. Just forward.

We’ve packed this edition with individuals and businesses who are doing exactly that. Builders. Creators. Owners. People who understand that visibility isn’t luck — it’s strategy, consistency, and courage working together over time.

And if you’ve been paying attention, you already know — this isn’t just a magazine. It’s a platform. A spotlight. A movement that’s growing right here out of South Florida and pushing outward.

We’re highlighting stories that deserve attention. Brands that deserve scale. And voices that aren’t waiting to be chosen — they’re choosing themselves.

As we head into summer, I’ll leave you with this: The gap between where you are and where you want to be is usually smaller than it feels. It’s just filled with hesitation.

Remove that — and everything changes. Let’s make this season count!

Our homes have become more than just places to rest; they are offices, sanctuaries, gathering spaces, and expressions of personal identity.

STEM CELL THERAPY

As of July 1st Florida state law now approves treatment of stem cells for Orthopedic, Pain and Wound Healing.

In this issue, we explore how thoughtful design can elevate everyday living, whether through small, meaningful updates or bold transformations. You’ll find a curated collection of inspiring homes, expert insights, emerging trends, and practical ideas to help you reimagine your space with intention and creativity.

Read about seven home trends that are here to stay in “Beyond Aesthetics” on page 54. Or, if you seek a look that is unique, turn to “Italian Modernism” on page 58. This elevated style creates architectural spaces that still manage to feel soft and livable.

FOOD NEWS & RAVE REVIEWS

I just wanted to take a moment to share how much I enjoyed reading the “Restaurant Year in Review” article. It was incredibly well-written, engaging, and packed with valuable insights. The way it captured both the broader context of the year and the evolving restaurant scene; especially the balance between new openings and closures; made it not only informative but also very relatable. I found the coverage of emerging trends, local highlights, and industry challenges particularly helpful and insightful. Overall, it’s a fantastic piece that provides real value to anyone interested in the great culinary ambience around town. Great job putting together such a comprehensive and enjoyable read!

Guillermo Roeder via email

As usual, really enjoyed Kenny Spahn’s “Restaurant Year in Review” article. Would love to see more restaurants and recipes featured, and even quarterly or cuisinefocused roundups.

Alex Ferraro via email

Just a brief note to say what a great article Ken Spahn wrote. His “Restaurant Year in Review” was so well done. It was informative, covered restaurants that had recently closed and a full accounting of what will be opening. I’ve lived in the Boca area for over 30 years and am pleased to see exciting new faces coming. The writing and research he does is a plus to all who read this. Thank you again for including him in your magazine.

Gilded Grandeur: THE FLAGLER MUSEUM

In Palm Beach, the Flagler Museum stands as a resplendent tribute to America’s Gilded Age. Once known as Whitehall, this grand estate was the winter retreat of visionary industrialist Henry Morrison Flagler — a man whose ambition helped shape modern Florida. Completed in 1902, Whitehall was hailed by contemporaries as “more wonderful than any palace in Europe.” Designed in the Beaux-Arts style, the mansion boasts 75 rooms adorned with marble, gilded ceilings, and sweeping staircases that evoke the opulence of a bygone era. Yet beyond its architectural splendor lies a deeper story: one of innovation, expansion, and the transformative power of vision. Flagler, co-founder of Standard Oil and a pioneer of Florida’s East Coast development, played a pivotal role in turning the state into a world-class destination.

Today, the museum’s mission is as refined as its surroundings — to preserve and interpret Whitehall, Henry Flagler’s legacy, and America’s Gilded Age in ways that inspire every generation. Through meticulously curated exhibitions, visitors are invited to explore not only the grandeur of the estate but also the cultural and economic forces that defined early 20th-century America. From original furnishings to personal artifacts, each room offers an intimate glimpse into the life and times of one of the nation’s most influential figures. What sets the Flagler Museum apart is its seamless blend of preservation and storytelling. It is not merely a static monument but a living narrative — one that captures the spirit of ambition and elegance that characterized the era. Seasonal programs, educational initiatives, and special events further enrich the experience, ensuring relevance for modern audiences while honoring historical authenticity.

For the discerning traveler, the Flagler Museum is more than a cultural stop — it is an immersion into a world where luxury, history, and legacy converge. In the heart of Palm Beach, Whitehall continues to inspire, reminding us that true grandeur is timeless. flaglermuseum.org

A GUIDE TO GROWING THRIVING PLANTS INDOORS

LUSH GREENERY CAN ADD A SENSE OF CALM TO MANY HOMES AND BRINGING IT INDOORS CAN HELP TRANSFORM NEARLY ANY ROOM INTO A RELAXING OASIS.

Whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or just beginning your indoor gardening journey, this guide can help you get startedand succeed in — growing healthy plants indoors.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT PLANTS

Not all houseplants are created equal, and the first step toward a flourishing indoor garden is picking plants that align with your home’s conditions. If your home has several bright and sunny rooms, light-loving varieties will likely thrive. For shadier spots, look for low-light tolerant plants, which are often easier to care for and more forgiving.

PROVIDE ADEQUATE LIGHT

Most houseplants prefer bright, indirect light — that soft glow when positioned just inside a window (and turned regularly for even light). However, some can tolerate lower light levels. If natural sunlight is limited where you live, consider grow lights that mimic the sun’s spectrum and help plants keep their color and strong growth without plenty of daylight.

AVOID OVERWATERING

Too much water can lead to root rot and is one of the most common mistakes even the most experienced gardeners make. Rather than watering on a strict schedule, check the soil first. If the top inch is dry, it’s usually time to give your plant a drink. Add warm or room-temperature water until you see moisture come out of the pot’s drainage holes then let the soil dry before watering again.

CONSIDER THE SOIL, POT AND GROWTH SPACE

Use a high-quality potting mix designed for indoor plants along with pots featuring proper drainage. If you prefer decorative planters without holes, consider placing your plant in a smaller pot inside the decorative one to ensure proper drainage. As plants grow, they may need repotted to give their roots room to spread and continue healthy growth.

NOURISH DURING THE GROWING SEASON

Plants use more nutrients in spring and summer, so feed them with a balanced, diluted fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active months. In fall and winter, most indoor plants grow more slowly and need less feeding. Also remember to regularly prune dead or yellowing leaves to help plants focus on new growth. GARDEN GROWING BASICS FOR BEGINNERS

Growing your own produce is an allaround smart practice, from the money you’ll save at the grocery store to the contributions you can make toward a cleaner planet.

Maintaining a garden takes some effort, but it’s a project even a beginner can tackle with ease. Consider these tips to start growing your at-home garden:

1 SELECT A PERFECT SPOT

You’ll want to place your garden in an area where you see it often so you’re reminded to weed and care for it regularly. Find a flat area you can access easily, where erosion and other pitfalls (including hungry wildlife) won’t be a problem.

2 CHOOSE BETWEEN GROUND AND CONTAINERS

There are pros and cons to gardening in containers vs. the ground, and there’s no universal right choice. Rather, the best garden depends on your goals and preferences. A ground garden usually offers more space and may provide a better growth environment for roots. However, a container garden is often easier to maintain and may be all you

need if you wish to grow just a few plants.

3 UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY SOIL

You may think any dirt will do, but keep in mind the soil you plant in will be the primary source of nutrients for your produce. Not only that, but quality soil provides stability so plants can root firmly and grow healthy and sturdy to support their bounty. Quality soil also allows for ample drainage. Organic matter like compost, leaf mold or aged manure all help improve soil quality.

4 KEEP WATER CLOSE

Lugging water can quickly eliminate the pleasure of tending your garden, so be sure you’re situated near a hose. You’ll know it’s time to water when the soil is dry about an inch below the surface.

5 PLAN FOR PLENTY OF SUN

A bright, sunny spot is a must, since most vegetables, herbs and fruits depend on six or more hours of sun every day. Remember the sun’s path changes throughout the year, and as trees and foliage grow, they may produce more

shade with each growing season.

6 CONSIDER WHAT YOU’LL GROW

Starting with veggies you know you like is a smart starting point since you’ll be pouring sweat equity into making them grow. Over time, you might add new varieties, but early on, keep your focus on foods you know you like so you can see a meaningful return and avoid waste. You’ll also need to consider what you can grow to maturity within your area’s growing season. If necessary, you might want to start transplants you can nurture indoors before moving them outside when the temperatures allow.

7 PLANT ACCORDING TO A CALENDAR

Knowing how long it takes different foods to mature will help you create a planting calendar. You don’t want to harvest everything at once, and if you stagger planting and replant what you can, you’ll have a garden that produces food for your family for a longer period of time.

TRENDING NOW: Y2K MAKEUP

The Y2K beauty trend, inspired by the late 1990s and early 2000s, is known for its playful, futuristic, and sometimes over-the-top aesthetic: glossy lips, frosted eyeshadow, thin eyebrows, and lots of shimmer. Celebrities like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Paris Hilton helped define the look, often appearing with bronzed skin, body glitter, and bold, experimental hairstyles. The style reflected a cultural fascination with technology and the new millennium, blending glamour with a slightly edgy, cyber-inspired vibe. Today, the Y2K beauty trend is making a strong comeback, especially among Gen Z. Social media platforms have revived interest in nostalgic styles, bringing back lip gloss, face gems, and metallic finishes. Modern interpretations tend to mix the original look with current techniques, making it feel fresh rather than outdated. This revival shows how beauty trends are cyclical, constantly being reinvented for new generations.

BE WELL

The rise of wellness products reflects a cultural shift toward the “feel good, look good” philosophy — where beauty starts from within. Innovations in nutritional science and biotechnology have elevated supplements like collagen powders, adaptogens, and probiotics, designed to support skin, hair, and overall vitality at a cellular level. At the same time, beauty tech like LED masks, microcurrent devices, and app-connected skincare tools, offer personalized, results-driven routines from home. This convergence of internal and external care resonates with consumers seeking long-term benefits over quick fixes. Healthy living — balanced diets, movement, sleep, and mindfulnes — now plays a central role in beauty routines, reinforcing the idea that radiance is a byproduct of overall wellbeing, not just topical treatments.

SADDLE UP FOR SUMMER: AMERICAN CLASSICS AWAIT IN LINCOLN

Each June, hundreds of baseball players travel the “Road to Omaha” to play on college baseball’s championship stage. That sport’s pilgrimage pales in comparison to the number of athletes headed slightly west of there a few weeks later.

More than 1,700 student athletes — more than any high school championship in America — will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo July 19-25.

For many contestants, the world’s largest rodeo is their last stop before they turn pro.

“The caliber of these young athletes is beyond what most people can even imagine,” said Kendra Ronnau, Lancaster County Agricultural Society Board president. “The All-Around Cowboy and AllAround Cowgirl from last year will likely be back as seniors defending their titles. It’s also highly probable we’ll see the 2025 Trap Shooting Champion, who didn’t shoot one perfect round; he shot two.”

The event delivers seven days of excitement at the Sandhills Global Event Center (SGEC) complex with rodeo competition in

all the traditional events, including bull riding, barrel racing, team roping and more. Those who love patriotic pageantry can also see the largest gathering of rodeo queens in the world compete for one crown. Plus, the region’s largest Western trade show is open for shoppers to explore throughout the event — no ticket required for trade show entry.

Ron Bohaty, SGEC managing director, said there’s truly something for everyone in Lincoln. “The facilities for our athletes and fans, a central location and a city full of surprises makes Lincoln an ideal host for this event,” he said. “It’s a big city with small city charm so everyone feels right at home.”

Lincoln’s easy interstate access and more than 5,000 hotel rooms, nearby camping and more than 900 restaurants make it an affordable and accessible destination. For an upscale stay, The Kindler Hotel (thekindlerhotel.com) is a boutique option in the heart of downtown, offering sophisticated accommodations surrounded by restaurants, bars and local boutique shopping.

LINCOLN’S EASY INTERSTATE ACCESS AND MORE THAN 5,000 HOTEL ROOMS, NEARBY CAMPING AND MORE THAN 900 RESTAURANTS MAKE IT AN AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE DESTINATION.

HISTORIC DOWNTOWN

Anchored by the towering Nebraska capitol building, downtown Lincoln and its popular Historic Haymarket District offer a lively yet relaxed ambiance with plenty of restaurants and shops to entice visitors.

UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA

Fan favorites at Nebraska’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Nebraska, include the Larsen Tractor Test & Power Museum, Memorial Stadium, Botanical Garden and Arboretum, Sheldon Art Museum and the Dairy Store, offering locally sourced, handmade ice cream created by students.

MILES OF TRAILS

The Lincoln area makes exercising by yourself or with travel companions easy with more than 185 miles of trails, including a 2.6mile bridle path in Pioneers Park.

MUST-SEE MUSEUMS

Among the internationally acclaimed museums in Nebraska’s capital city are the International Quilt Museum, with the largest quilt collection in the world, and the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed, voted “Best Motor Racing Museum in the Country” by “Newsweek” readers. stb

JEFF ELSON

THE “WANNA BE ARTIST” WHO HAS MADE IT

“I MADE MY LIVING SPACE INTO A GALLERY,”

remarked the charismatic Jeff Elson as he began his “show and tell” tour. His exquisite three bedroom condo, located in a prime location on Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, is chock full of art, memorabilia, and objects collected from his travels around the world. Jeff is a most interesting, knowledgeable, and fun-loving person, with a personality as eclectic as his many varied collections of treasures. If you visit his home/gallery, you will step off the private elevator into a small room that sets the scene right at the entryway for the art explosion about to follow. The walls of this small room are papered with prancing zebras and each corner of the tiny entry sparks interest. He pointed out a stunning life-size ceramic sculpture of a Great Dane in one corner, saying, “Oh, that was my Mother’s, and so was that little table in the corner.” There’s much to look at, and we haven’t even entered the home/gallery yet.

The door opens into the unit and there’s an overwhelming desire to try to take it all in. There’s art, sculptures, life-like statues and artistic, colorful items everywhere from floor to ceiling. “This tells of the travels of my business around the world,” Jeff

“Besides being a car collector, art collector and investor, and photographer, I’m a ‘wanna be’ artist and I want to live with my art.”

explained. He continued, “I had a house in West Hampton, New York, with lots of space, and even a race car track in the basement. I compressed it all here with art on the walls and had a special piece designed on the ceiling to tie in the room.”

Jeff’s art collection comes from so many places in the world, at least 25 countries with Italy, France, Denmark, India, Cambodia, Thailand, Brazil, Japan, Israel, Germany, Austria, South Africa, Korea, Mexico, Haiti and Newfoundland, to name a few. Each piece in the gallery has a story from each place. He said, “Besides being a car collector, art collector and investor, and photographer, I’m a “wanna be” artist and I want to live with my art.”

The most fun part about Jeff is his passion for fun. He creates playful mixes of pop art, retro and contemporary styles exemplified by his Howdy Doody and his shiny gold Mickey Mouse characters sitting on shelves next to the bar, his photos of Barbie dolls, the little ceramic monkeys holding on and dangling from the windows to his extensive and fabulously framed 1600 piece collection of Pez dispensers displayed in custom cabinetry. (Remember that iconic candy from your childhood?)

If you visit, prepare to allow time to take it all in since every

wall, room and corridor deserves attention. “Living here is fun and entertaining. I created it and it’s an extension of me. It’s fun to live in an art gallery.” From the whimsical to the serious art, Jeff pointed out one of the rarest he owns, an oil painting by Man Ray, an American born artist who had spent most of his time in Paris and played a leading role in the Dada and Surrealist movements. “That one,” Jeff said, “ will go to a museum.”

Two large life-like figures grace an area in the living room just off the kitchen that features stunning L-shaped underlit porcelain countertops giving the room a luxurious, glowing effect. One wooden figure next to a window is a Japanese Gundan warrior. Jeff said humorously, “He went from Japan to Hong Kong where I found him and now he lives in Boca.” The other human-like figure is a Star Wars Jedi soldier that has a story too: ”I found it in the garbage and fixed it. Then I hired artist Keith Haring and made it into a piece of art.” (Haring was known for his pop art and graffiti subculture in New York City in the 1980’s.) How peaceful to have the power of The Force, a Galactic guardian of peace and justice complete with a pink helmet and Lightsaber weapon, guarding you right in your living room.

Jeff’s diverse tastes run from the colorful light-hearted to the more serious with gorgeous furniture and relics he brought back from Hong Kong including two doors from churches that he had shipped. A shelf holding perpetual motion bars sits just above another shelf that holds a large silver mountain lion sculpture from his grandfather.

In 2019 Jeff invested in Arthur J. “Art” Williams, Jr., a Chicagoborn artist and former counterfeiter known for counterfeiting hundreds of the 1996 hundred dollar bill. After serving some time

in prison, Williams parlayed his detailing skills to paint art using themes of currency. Eventually, Williams went back to Chicago and Jeff has displayed a few pieces in his home gallery. One eyecatching painting depicts five historical figures such as Lincoln, Franklin and Jefferson playing poker.

Jeff also likes to tell of his experience of how he was one of the stranded airline passengers in which planes were diverted to Newfoundland during the 9/11 attacked in 2001. For five days, Jeff was among the thousands of strangers from 38 planes that were fed, housed and entertained by the local community resulting in the formation of lasting friendships despite the historical tragedy. Even in this situation in Newfoundland, Jeff said, “I’m always collecting. When I see a piece, my thought is always, where can I put it. If I find something I want, I always think, I can always rearrange.”

There’s no question that this “wanna be” artist who has magically transformed glass, stone, wood, minerals, porcelain, aluminum, acrylic, and even a piece of a street from Israel, into creative original masterpieces of art and beauty has far surpassed any “wanna be” title and has reached one that is enterprising, ambitious and often envied and imitated. He has arrived. He is the real deal.

The Art of Endurance

THERE ARE VERY FEW CAREERS IN MODERN CINEMA THAT FEEL AS EXPANSIVE, OR AS ENDURING, AS MERYL STREEP’S. ACROSS FIVE DECADES, SHE HAS MOVED SEAMLESSLY BETWEEN ERAS, GENRES AND EXPECTATIONS, BUILDING A BODY OF WORK THAT RESISTS EASY DEFINITION.

NOW, AT 76, HER FOCUS IS LESS ON REINVENTION AND MORE ON REFINEMENT—A CONTINUED CURIOSITY ABOUT PEOPLE, PERFORMANCE, AND THE QUIET EVOLUTION OF SELF.

AS SHE TELLS SIMPLY THE BEST, LONGEVITY HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT MAINTAINING RELEVANCE, BUT ABOUT REMAINING OPEN: TO CHANGE, TO CHALLENGE, AND TO THE STORIES STILL WAITING TO BE TOLD.

Spend any time considering Meryl Streep’s career and one thing becomes immediately clear: it has never followed a straight line. While others have chased consistency or carved out a singular screen identity, she has instead moved fluidly between strength and vulnerability, drama and comedy, certainty and doubt.

“I’ve been fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time,” she begins. It is a modest assessment, but one grounded in truth. From the outset, the roles she was offered — and chose — reflected a shifting moment in cinema.

“I’d only been acting professionally for 18 months when ‘Kramer’ came along, and it was almost unheard of to see a female character who had left her husband and son.

“That statement role really carried me through, and I’ve always felt very proud to have been able to work in films where the women I’m portraying are central to the story.”

It is a theme that has quietly defined her career: not simply playing women, but exploring them. From political leaders to artists, from editors to mothers, her performances have consistently asked audiences to look closer… and often, to reconsider what strength looks like.

“Of course, even today, we still need to make more films that present women’s lives as authentically as possible, and tell more women’s stories.”

Yet the confidence her characters project has not always mirrored her own. Away from the screen, the younger Streep was far less certain.

“My grandma was a brilliant woman and she was very influential in my life. She had a strong character and always told me to stand up for myself. My mother was also someone I looked up to and loved very much — she had a dynamic personality and a positive, enthusiastic outlook on life I often wished I could have had as a teenager or in my twenties.

“Yet I didn’t. I spent a childhood trying to show people who I really was, and didn’t really feel listened to. I ended up really insecure about myself and my appearance.”

Acting, then, became more than a profession. It became a way of understanding and, in some ways, repairing that early uncertainty. “Ultimately, the more I try to understand the women I’m playing, the more I understand something about myself.”

That relationship between role and self has remained constant, even as the industry around her has shifted dramatically. Few actors have witnessed and adapted to such profound change in Hollywood: from the studio system to streaming, from theatrical dominance to algorithmled visibility.

AND YET, STREEP’S APPROACH REMAINS STRIKINGLY UNCHANGED. SHE IS NOT INTERESTED IN SPEED, OR VOLUME, OR THE CONSTANT CHURN OF MODERN RELEVANCE. INSTEAD, SHE IS DRAWN TO SUBSTANCE AND WHAT LASTS.

This is perhaps why revisiting one of her most recognizable characters, Miranda Priestly, in "The Devil Wears Prada", felt less like a return and more like an extension. The world around the character may have transformed, but the questions she represents – about authority, taste and influence — remain as pressing as ever.

“I love the clothes, I respect the clothes, but the shoes are a workplace hazard… 16 weeks in stilettos is not glamour — it’s combat,” she laughs.

More seriously, however, she is clear that stepping back into familiar territory comes with its own set of expectations — and responsibilities.

“I tried staying sealed inside Miranda, and it was miserable. You can’t live at that temperature for weeks without freezing yourself out of the fun, the warmth, the people. That’s the last time I ever attempted a method thing. This time, Miranda can be exacting on camera; off camera you have to remain human.”

That balance between precision and perspective feels increasingly central to how Streep now works. “This time I wanted the work to be precise, but the process to be joyful.”

It is, in many ways, a reflection of experience. There is less urgency now, less need to prove anything. Instead, there is space to enjoy the work, to collaborate, and to observe how relationships, both on and off screen, evolve over time.

“There’s a shorthand when you come back to people after years. One look across a room and you remember how it all works. With Anne and Emily and Stanley, it’s like you pick up a conversation mid-sentence.”

Still, she resists the idea that revisiting the past is about comfort. “People always ask, ‘Why come back?’ The world that made Miranda powerful has changed… so the question is, what does a woman like Miranda do when the room stops waiting for her? That’s interesting.”

It is a question that extends beyond any single role. In an industry often preoccupied with youth, Streep’s continued presence feels quietly radical — not because she defies age, but because she reframes it.

Returning to prominence in her fifties, at a point when many actresses find opportunities diminishing, Streep instead entered one of the most prolific periods of her career. It is a trajectory that speaks less to reinvention and more to resilience...

Her career, when viewed as a whole, reveals distinct phases: the early years of intense dramatic work, the pivot into comedy, the period of relative retreat to focus on family, and the later resurgence that brought some of her most commercially successful and widely recognized performances.

That time away, she suggests, was never a step back; more a different kind of investment.

“It was my oasis — I had so much pleasure in watching over my children, being as much of a confidante as possible, and enjoying everything that came with helping them grow into independent young people.”

Family life provided a counterbalance to the demands of Hollywood, allowing her to remain grounded in a way that many of her contemporaries found difficult.

At the same time, it offered perspective — a reminder that careers, no matter how illustrious, are only one part of a larger life.

Returning to prominence in her fifties, at a point when many actresses find opportunities diminishing, Streep instead entered one of the most prolific periods of her career. It is a trajectory that speaks less to reinvention and more to resilience, and at the

same time enabled her to continue working with some of cinema’s most respected directors. “There is no greater indicator of time moving on when you realize so many of the brilliant directors you have worked with are now gone,” she reflects. “The likes of Sydney Pollack, Alan Pakula, Karel Reisz… they have a special place in my memory.”

Each brought a different approach, a different energy. Some were meticulous, others instinctive.

“Before "The Post" I had admired Steven Spielberg for so long and assumed he had a very methodical kind of technique, but in fact he’s so in command of his art that it’s like play… that can be quite unsettling. Everyone and everything is different, and I think that is important.

“In much the same way that Miranda kept her look but adapted it, so am I happy to shift left and right a bit to keep things interesting, yet at the heart of it I am entirely settled in myself.

“At the end of the day, anyone who believes they excel all the time is kidding only themselves,” she says. “I’ve not always been at my peak, but I’m content that I’ve always done enough to be invited back… and you know, I’ll take that!” stb

WARM, EARTHY PALETTES

This year, say goodbye to whites and cool grays. Instead, cozy earth tones like clay, sage, caramel and rich neutrals create a grounded, inviting atmosphere. Refresh walls or cabinetry with these earthy hues or try colordrenching — using a single hue in varying tones across walls, trim and ceilings - for a bold new vibe that feels both timeless and modern.

BEYOND AESTHETICS

7 HOME DESIGN TRENDS

Home design is once again evolving. Homeowners are blending comfort, personality, sustainability and connections to the outside world. More than just aesthetics, these trends are warm, intentional and rooted in real life. Whether you’re refreshing a room or planning a full-blown makeover, consider these ideas for inspiration that feels both timeless and fresh.

FLOWING, CURVED SHAPES

As homes trend more toward feeling lived-in rather than staged, hard edges and rigid forms are taking a backseat. In 2026, curves are everywhere: soft archways, rounded furniture and curved statement pieces that create fluid, comforting spaces.

PERSONALiZED NOSTALGIA

Blend old and new to create a space that’s truly your own. Think vintage furniture, heirloom pieces and decor that evokes memories — like quilted textiles or classic checkered tiles — styled in fresh, modern ways to add warmth and individuality.

OUTdOORINSPIREd INTERIORS

The connection to nature grows stronger inside homes with greenery, natural light and materials that echo the outdoors. From indoor-outdoor flow to plant-rich spaces that feel alive and tranquil, biophilic design promotes calm, comfort and connection.

FLEXIBLE, MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACES

With hybrid work and lifestyle blending continuing into 2026, rooms should be designed to serve multiple purposes. Adaptable furniture, hidden storage and smart layouts help make multifunctional spaces feel intentional and uncluttered. The laundry room seen here includes a washer and dryer, plenty of handy countertop space that can be used as a work station, and a convenient dog wash area.

ATTENTiON TO STATEMENT DETAILS

Small details are getting big attention this year. Swapping out basic cabinet hardware and lighting fixtures for artisanal, tactile metals can help elevate kitchen cabinets or bathroom vanities, turning them into design statements.

NATURAL MATERiALS & TEXTURES

Celebrate materials that age beautifully, like natural stone, reclaimed wood and textiles that tell a story. Consider woven pillows and throws, handmade pottery, textured walls and wood with visible grain to enrich rooms with sensory detail and raw beauty.

Italian Modernism makes

a comeback in today’s home interiors

Homeowners and designers alike are rethinking what it means for a home to feel modern. Instead of extreme precision or fast-moving trends, there’s a growing desire for spaces that feel calm, expressive and built to last. People want rooms that look intentional, but still feel lived-in, resulting in a renewed appreciation for materials crafted with quality and investment in statement pieces. This shift brings renewed attention to a design movement that has never truly gone out of style: Italian modernism. Known for its expressive geometry, sculptural silhouettes and architectural structure, this influential aesthetic is shaping today’s interiors in fresh, contemporary ways.

A RETURN TO EXPRESSIVE GEOMETRY

Italian modernism has always celebrated geometry – not as a rigid system, but as a source of emotion and movement. Today’s homeowners are gravitating toward these shapes for their ability to soften a space while still feeling architectural.

The Roccesco™ Bath Collection by Brizo is a recent example of this approach. Its name is derived from rocchetto, the Italian word for spool, a reference reflected in the collection’s sculptural forms. Looping arcs, circular forms and silhouettes embody this philosophy, creating a look that feels both timeless and forward-looking.

This living room blends nature, sophistication, and comfort into the perfect design. Furniture by BRABBU, including the Bohol Modular Sofa, offers versatility and embraces the space with an inviting feeling. The Dukono II Armchair provides a pop of color and cheerfulness to the space. The Sequoia Coffee Table invites the right amount of nature to the room, which combines perfectly with the wildness of the Byce II Side Table. The Shard Chandelier by Luxxu gives the light and warmth that every room requires, and the Kumi Mirror brings a charming and playful design. To complete the look, the Agatha Rug by Rug’Society adds the final touch, with its lines that resemble the interior of quartz. homessociety.com

CUSTOMIZABLE CRAFTMANSHIP

A renewed appreciation for craftsmanship is shaping how kitchens and baths are being designed. Natural elements such as stone, metal, glass and wood are increasingly favored not only for their durability, but for the character they bring to a space. Italian modernism has always valued precision, materiality and the idea that everyday objects should be beautiful enough to stand alone as art.

FUNCTIONAL BEAUTY

One of the defining traits of Italian modernism is the belief that beauty and function should support each other. Today’s designers are applying that approach to fixtures that serve as both visual anchors and everyday tools. The Roccesco™ Halo shower head exemplifies this balance, with precisely angled nozzles that create a funnel-like water flow for a fully immersive experience. Its circular form plays with positive and negative space, resulting in a minimalist profile that remains distinctly sculptural. The Sconce shower head offers a complementary interpretation, blending circular and linear elements to create a silhouette that feels more like a piece of artwork than a traditional fixture.

Key Elements of Modern Italian Interiors

COLOR PALETTE: Warm neutrals (sand, clay, stone white) complemented by deep, earthy tones like olive green or terracotta.

ARCHITECTURAL FURNITURE:

Pieces are designed as functional art, characterized by low, deep-seated, sofas, and curved, organic shapes.

MATERIALS: A focus on tactile materials such as raw wood, travertine, and handcrafted ceramics.

LIGHTING: Statement lighting fixtures, often with, geometric or metallic accents, that serve as focal points.

ATMOSPHERE: A balance between clean-lined, modern sophistication and, cozy, relaxed livability.

At a time when interiors are moving away from quick trends, designers are rediscovering the Italian approach to modernism. New collections illustrate how the style continues to evolve, translating historic design ideals into contemporary spaces that prioritize personality, form and function. As homeowners continue to seek interiors that feel personal, sculptural and serene, this style movement shows no sign of fading. Its blend of geometry, craftsmanship and emotional resonance makes it uniquely suited to modern living. stb

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT’S STORYBOOK ABODE

Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright is known for his theatrical style, rich tenor voice, and blending of pop, folk, opera, and cabaret. The New York native is the son of folk musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle and first toured with his family as a child before launching a solo career. His selftitled debut album in 1998 earned critical acclaim and established him as a distinctive voice in alternative pop. Wainwright’s work explores themes of love, identity, and pop culture, drawing inspiration from classical music and opera — a style described as “popopera” or “baroque pop.” He plays both guitar and piano, often switching between the two while performing live. He has won two Juno Awards (Canada’s answer to the Grammys) for Best Alternative Album and has been twice nominated for a Grammy.

The unique star has listed his equally unique Laurel Canyon home for sale at $2.3 million. Built in 1926, the darling residence is constructed in the Storybook style, featuring turrets and stained-glass windows evocative of a fairytale. Inspired by movie sets and medieval European cottages, this distinctive architectural style was popular in 1920s Hollywood, with many surviving examples protected as cultural landmarks.

Inside the home, find cathedral ceilings with exposed beams and unique geometry. The octagonal library in particular is a fabulous statement piece. Bright primary colors adorn the walls, offering a bold, creative aesthetic. The kitchen, with inviting blue walls and lovely multi-pane windows, includes a cozy breakfast

nook and connects to the striking formal dining room. A Batchelder-mantled fireplace and balconies on every level exude charm. The 5,299-square-foot lot is landscaped with gardens and fountains, continuing the fairytale theme. Several stonework patios provide ample space for lounging and observing the pleasant views of Mt. Olympus and the surrounding canyons. Tucked behind gates, the 2,119-square-foot residence is a vibrant, creative space in one of LA’s most artistic neighborhoods. Laurel Canyon became a center of rock culture in the 1960s and ‘70s. Tucked in the hills between Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, its secluded houses and winding roads attracted musicians who wanted privacy but still needed quick access to the Los Angeles music industry. Artists including The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, Jim Morrison and Frank Zappa lived there, often within walking distance of one another. This close-knit community helped shape the folk-rock and psychedelic sounds that defined late-1960s California music. Informal jam sessions, parties, and collaborations were common, and many famous songs referenced canyon life. Mitchell’s album Ladies of the Canyon famously captured this legendary scene. By the mid-1970s, rising fame, real estate prices, and the darker side of rock excess changed the neighborhood, but Laurel Canyon remains a symbol of a uniquely creative moment in rock history. Current celebrities in the area include Quentin Tarantino, Lady Gaga, Will Ferrell, Jared Leto, and Sacha Baron Cohen. toptenrealestatedeals.com stb

AI and the Evolution of Deal Making

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept in business brokerage. It is here, and it is already reshaping how deals are sourced, evaluated, and sold. For buyers, sellers, brokers, lenders, and landlords alike, AI is driving a more efficient, informed, and transparent transaction process.

At its core, business brokerage has always been about information. Historically, access to that information was fragmented, delayed, and often inconsistent. Today, AI is changing that dynamic. Brokers and clients now have access to deeper, more organized data sets in real time. Financials can be analyzed instantly, industry benchmarks can be layered in seconds, and market comps are more accessible than ever. This creates a more informed buyer and a more prepared seller, which ultimately leads to better decisions on both sides of the table.

be evaluated in the market. This transparency is not eliminating the role of the broker, it is elevating it. The intermediary becomes less of a gatekeeper of information and more of a strategic advisor guiding clients through increasingly complex decisions.

Financing, traditionally one of the slower components of a transaction, is also benefiting from AI. Lenders are beginning to use AI-driven underwriting tools to assess risk more efficiently. Financial documents can be reviewed quickly, cash flow can be modeled dynamically, and loan decisions can be made faster. This shortens the financing cycle and gives buyers greater confidence when making offers.

“At Transworld Business Advisors, we are embracing these advancements while staying grounded in what has always driven our success, strong relationships, market expertise, and a commitment to helping our clients achieve the best possible outcomes.”

One of the most immediate impacts is speed. Transactions that once took months to move through early-stage diligence are now accelerating. AI tools can quickly normalize financial statements, identify add-backs, and flag inconsistencies. Buyers can evaluate opportunities faster, and brokers can qualify prospects with greater precision. This reduces wasted time and keeps deals moving forward with momentum.

Valuation is another area seeing meaningful improvement. While business valuation will always require human judgment, AI is bringing a new level of transparency and consistency to the process. By aggregating comparable transactions, industry performance metrics, and historical trends, AI can provide a more data-driven starting point. This helps align expectations earlier in the process, reducing the gap between buyers and sellers and limiting friction during negotiations.

Access to information is also expanding beyond the broker’s internal network. Buyers are entering conversations better educated, often with a clearer understanding of pricing, financing options, and operational benchmarks. Sellers, in turn, are more aware of how their business will

Landlord approvals, another frequent bottleneck, are also starting to move more efficiently. With better data and more standardized reporting, landlords can evaluate tenant viability more quickly. AI-assisted document preparation and review help ensure that packages are complete and consistent, reducing back-andforth and delays.

What does all of this mean for the future of business brokerage? Simply put, better deals and more of them. Faster transactions, improved transparency, and broader access to information are reducing friction across the entire process.

That said, AI is not replacing the human element. Deals still require trust, negotiation, and experience. Relationships still matter. Judgment still matters. What AI does is remove inefficiencies and provide better tools for decision-making.

At Transworld Business Advisors, we are embracing these advancements while staying grounded in what has always driven our success, strong relationships, market expertise, and a commitment to helping our clients achieve the best possible outcomes. By combining technology with experience, we believe the future of business brokerage is not only faster, but better.

The brokers who embrace this shift will not only close deals faster, they will deliver a higher level of value to their clients. And in a business built on outcomes, that is what ultimately matters most.stb

Breaking the Foot Pain Cycle

The food server, retail worker and nurse all have one thing in common: they spend most of their day standing. They, along with thousands of others, suffer from foot pain that they assume is a normal condition of their occupation. One patient of mine admitted that “for too long I accepted my sore, achy feet and the overall body fatigue they caused, as the natural consequence of getting older ... it seemed natural to me to have foot pain after more than a half century of running, playing sports and otherwise racking up foot mileage.”

HOW HIGH PERFORMANCE CUSTOM ORTHOTICS CAN HELP

“The orthotics made for me didn’t just mitigate my problems, they virtually solved them.”

UNDERSTANDING FOOT PAIN

Most people don’t realize that foot pain isn’t a result of stress from standing or walking, but rather from inappropriate, standardized footwear. If you need eyeglasses, you wouldn’t wear a pair without customizing them to your prescription because your eyes would hurt and you’d experience headaches. It’s the same with orthotics. Foot pain occurs because the muscles in the bottom of the foot are stretching abnormally due to an improper arch in your shoes. If your arch is not properly supported as you walk, your foot muscles become stretched and fatigued because they are not being held up by your skeletal structure.

Using Full Contact Technology, I mold high performance orthotics, making a precise match for your arch. This changes how your foot functions during everyday activities, allowing it to reform into a normal shape that permits painfree function. This is a breakthrough from the oldfashioned techniques most podiatrists use which don’t allow for full contact of the arch, thereby making the foot collapse as you walk. The antiquated types of orthotics only alleviated a portion of the pain, and often times only on a temporary basis.

One patient of mine testifies that “the orthotics Dr. Garvin made for me didn’t just mitigate my problems, they virtually solved them.” Another states that “in less than one week after getting your custom orthotics all pain and discomfort left me” and he felt ten years younger. It’s also important to understand that your feet affect other parts of your body. Most patients who experience relief from foot pain also find pain disappearing in their knees, hips, spine, and more, which makes our highperformance orthotics lifeenhancers rather than just pain relievers. stb

How effective is TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) for Treatment Resistant Major Depression? (TMS series Part 1 of 3)

Raul J Rodriguez M.D. is the founder, CEO and Medical Director of the Delray Center For Healing and the Delray Center for Brain Science, outpatient Mental Health Treatment Centers, which follow a holistic approach and offer comprehensive Major Depression treatment programs that include advanced treatments such as Brain Network Analytics (BNA), therapeutic Ketamine infusions, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), advanced psychopharmacology, DBT psychotherapy and skills training, exercise therapy, nutritional therapy, acupuncture, meditation, and yoga.

DELRAY CENTER FOR HEALING 403 SE 1st Street Delray Beach, FL 33483 561-266-8866 www.delraycenter.com www.delraybrainscience.com

Treatment Resistant Major Depression (TRD) is one of the most dreadful conditions that anyone could ever suffer from. TRD is a painful existence devoid of happiness and pleasure. TRD, the most severe grade of depression defined by multiple medication and therapy failures, often becomes a hopeless situation. Quality of life suffers, as do personal relationships. Functional capacity is impaired and progressively declines over time in afflicted individuals. Many people raise the white flag and surrender, believing that chronic depression is their said lot in life. Others want to keep fighting but do not know what to do. After 1 or 2 bad years of failed treatments, those affected by depression start to fear they are running out of options. Major advances in Psychiatry over the last decade have created new and powerful options for the treatment of TRD. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, referred to as “TMS” is the most groundbreaking of these new options.

Q: What is TMS?

TMS is the acronym for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, which is a cutting edge treatment for depression that involves stimulation of brain tissue using electromagnetic pulses. This noninvasive procedure improves symptoms of depression by activating the parts of the brain associated with mood control and depression. TMS has grown in popularity due to the high degree of effectiveness for Treatment Resistant Depression while having very few side effects and absolutely no circulation of medication in the bloodstream.

Q: What is the TMS procedure like?

The process starts with the placement of an electromagnetic coil over the scalp near the forehead. The motor strip, the area of the brain responsible for movement of limbs and muscles, is then mapped out. This is necessary in order to subsequently determine the location

“TMS has grown in popularity due to the high degree of effectiveness for Treatment Resistant Depression while having very few side effects.”

of the lateral pre-frontal cortex. The actual procedure involves a delivering a sequence of magnetic pulses to the left lateral pre-frontal cortex to induce stimulation. The magnetic pulses pass through the scalp and the skull to reach the target brain tissue. TMS activates the actual neurons by inducing an electrical current in the part of the brain cell called the axon. This current travels to the nerve cell body and then affects other connecting brain cells. This stimulation ultimately creates the powerful antidepressant effect.

Q: When is TMS indicated?

TMS is indicated when conventional treatments for Major Depression have not worked. Insurance coverage is typically approved for individuals who have been diagnosed with Major Depression and have failed at least 4 different medication trials. TMS can be used to treat pregnant women suffering from depression, with the notable advantage of not exposing the unborn child to any potential ill effects from medications. TMS is also an option for individuals who suffer from Major Depression and do not wish to take medications, even as a first line option.

Q: When was TMS approved by the FDA?

TMS was approved by the FDA for the indication of treatment resistant depression in 2008. Deep TMS, possible with the newer generation of TMS technology, was approved by the FDA for the indication of treatment resistant depression in 2013. stb

IF YOU’RE NOT USING THIS ONE AD STRATEGY, YOU’RE LEAVING MONEY ON THE TABLE

Let’s be blunt.

If you’re running ads right now— Google, Facebook, Instagram, even Local Service Ads, and you’re not using this one strategy, you are losing money every single day.

Not maybe. Not potentially. You are.

The strategy? Retargeting.

And after 15+ years in digital marketing, I can tell you this with absolute certainty: businesses that ignore retargeting are willingly letting warm, ready-to-buy customers walk straight into their competitor’s arms.

THE COLD TRUTH ABOUT MOST ADVERTISING

Here’s what most business owners don’t realize:

Only 2–5% of your website visitors convert on the first visit.

That means 95% of your potential customers leave without taking action.

You paid to get them there… and then you just let them go?

That’s not a marketing strategy. That’s a leak.

RETARGETING: THE MOST PROFITABLE ADS YOU’RE NOT RUNNING

Retargeting (also known as remarketing) allows you to show ads specifically to people who have already:

• Visited your website

• Clicked on your ads

• Viewed your services

• Engaged with your social media

• Started—but didn’t complete—a conversion

These aren’t strangers. These are highintent prospects who already know who you are.

And when done correctly, retargeting can increase conversion rates by 2x, 3xeven 10x compared to cold traffic.

WHY RETARGETING WORKS (WHEN EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS)

Because it aligns with how people actually make decisions.

Customers don’t usually buy on the first click. They research. They compare. They hesitate.

Retargeting keeps you in front of them during that decision-making window.

It says: “Hey, we’re still here. And we’re still the best choice.”

And in a competitive market, visibility equals trust.

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE BUSINESSES MAKE

Most businesses either:

1. Don’t run retargeting at all, or 2. Run it poorly, with generic ads, no segmentation, and no strategy

They show the same ad to everyone, regardless of behavior.

That’s like pitching the same message to someone who just heard about you… and someone who almost bought yesterday.

It doesn’t work.

WHAT HIGH-PERFORMING RETARGETING ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

At Simply The Best Digital, we approach retargeting with precision and intent.

Here’s how we turn “almost customers” into paying clients:

BEHAVIOR-BASED SEGMENTATION

We separate audiences based on actions:

• Website visitors vs. cart abandoners

• Service page viewers vs. blog readers

• First-time visitors vs. returning users

MESSAGE MATCHING

Different stages require different messaging:

• Awareness → Education

• Consideration → Social proof

• Decision → Offers, urgency, and trust signals

MULTI-PLATFORM DOMINATION

We don’t rely on one channel:

• Google Display & YouTube

• Facebook & Instagram

• Local Service Ads (LSAs) for high-intent leads

Your audience sees you everywhere— which builds authority fast.

CONVERSION-FOCUSED CREATIVE

Not just “branding ads.” We create ads

designed to drive action - calls, form fills, bookings, and more.

THE REAL COST OF IGNORING THIS

Let’s put it into perspective.

If you’re spending $5,000/month on ads and not retargeting effectively, you’re likely wasting 30–60% of your potential ROI.

That’s not a small inefficiency. That’s thousands of dollars… every single month.

And while you’re losing those opportunities?

Your competitors are retargeting your traffic.

THIS IS WHERE SIMPLY THE BEST DIGITAL COMES IN

We don’t just run ads. We build fullfunnel, revenue-focused systems.

From:

• High-converting Google Ads campaigns

• Local Service Ads that dominate your market

• Advanced retargeting strategies that bring customers back

We make sure every dollar you spend works harder and smarter.

Because marketing shouldn’t feel like a gamble. It should feel like a machine.

FINAL THOUGHT: STOP PAYING FOR TRAFFIC YOU DON’T CONVERT

You’ve already done the hard partgetting people to your website.

Now it’s time to stop letting them disappear.

If you’re not using retargeting strategically, you’re not just missing out…

You’re funding your competitor’s growth

READY TO CAPTURE THE CUSTOMERS YOU’RE LOSING?

Let’s fix the leaks, maximize your ad spend, and turn missed opportunities into measurable revenue.

Snack Brighter

FRESH, FLAVORFUL NOSHES AND NIBBLES

When it comes to snacking, ease is often at the top of the wish list. Not far behind, however, are fresh flavors and real ingredients.

That’s where NatureSweet shines by adding a little color to snack plates with its tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Fair Trade and B Corp-certified, the produce company is widely recognized for meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, supporting agricultural workers and making a positive impact.

That commitment and the belief that “the more you put into something, the more you get out” shows up in flavorful recipes like these Caprese Skewers. Coated in a flavorful, fresh balsamic glaze, these light, colorful snacks make everything from afterschool bites to weekend entertaining more fun.

Perfectly paired with fresh basil leaves and mozzarella, the star is Constellation tomatoes — a blended, balanced mix of classic cherry tomatoes, sweet yellow tomatoes, mini-heirloom tomatoes and orange cherry tomatoes. Easy to enjoy as a standalone sweet-and-healthy snack or as a palette-pleasing ingredient in a variety of recipes, it’s truly a tomato for every occasion.

Or if you prefer savory, hearty snacks, these Bruschetta Bagels are packed with flavor. Homemade bagels are topped with juicy Glorys cherry tomatoes — perfect for grilling, sauteing, roasting, baking or simply snacking — creamy goat cheese and a splash of balsamic to create a bite that feels indulgent but is packed with fresh ingredients. 1 tablespoon sugar

1 1/4 cups lukewarm water, divided

3 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt sesame seeds

BRUSCHETTA:

2 cups NatureSweet Glorys cherry tomatoes

1/4 cup olive oil

2 cloves garlic

Caprese Skewers

Recipe courtesy of The Produce Moms

Prep time: 15 minutes

Yield: 12 skewers

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/3 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

12 mozzarella balls, drained and patted dry

24 ounces NatureSweet Constellation tomatoes

24 small fresh basil leaves

1/4 cup balsamic glaze (optional)

• In small bowl, whisk olive oil, Italian seasoning, cracked red pepper flakes, garlic powder and salt.

• Add mozzarella balls. Gently toss to coat. For best flavor, marinate in fridge overnight.

• To assemble skewers: Thread tomato, folded basil leaf, marinated mozzarella ball, another folded basil leaf and another tomato. Repeat to make 12 skewers.

• Place on serving platter. If desired, drizzle balsamic glaze over skewers on serving platter.

• To make bagels: In bowl, mix yeast, sugar and 1/2 cup lukewarm water; let rest 5 minutes.

• In separate large bowl, place flour and add yeast mixture, remaining lukewarm water and salt. Mix thoroughly with hands until homogenous mixture is obtained. Transfer to greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise 1 hour.

• Once dough rises, place on flat surface and divide into eight equal parts. Form small dough balls and, using finger, make hole in center of each to form bagels. Place on baking sheet, cover with kitchen towel and let rise 15 minutes.

• Preheat oven to 390 F.

• In pot of hot water over medium heat, cook each bagel 5 seconds, making sure they do not stick to each other. Remove from water and drain thoroughly. Place on parchment paper-lined plate, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake 25 minutes.

• To make bruschetta: On cutting board, use knife to cut tomatoes in half. Transfer to bowl; add olive oil, garlic and basil then mix. Set aside.

• To make topping and serve: Cut bagels in half, place on cutting board and use knife to spread goat cheese on each bagel half. Add bruschetta and drops of balsamic vinegar then sprinkle with salt and pepper, to taste.

ITALY’S WINE LANDSCAPE

I HAVE BEEN LUCKY AND BLESSED TO HAVE TRAVELED ALL OVER THE WORLD FOR THE LOVE OF WINE. ITALY, IN PARTICULAR, OFFERS A ROBUST SELECTION OF WINE VARIETIES, A STORIED HISTORY, AND A MULTI-GENERATIONAL LOVE AFFAIR WITH WINE PRODUCTION. IT IS DIVERSE, FOCUSING ON INDIGENOUS GRAPE VARIETIES AND REGIONALLYDRIVEN STYLES THAT REFLECT CENTURIES OF VITICULTURE AND TRADITION. FROM THE POWERFUL REDS OF PIEDMONT AND TUSCANY TO THE MINERAL-DRIVEN WHITES OF COASTAL AND VOLCANIC ZONES, THE FOLLOWING TWELVE WINES REPRESENT A COMPREHENSIVE SNAPSHOT OF ITALY’S ENOLOGICAL IDENTITY.

BAROLO (PIEDMONT)

Often called the “king of wines,” Barolo is made exclusively from Nebbiolo, a grape cultivated in Piedmont since at least the 13th century. Regulations require hillside vineyards with optimal sun exposure, emphasizing terroirdriven viticulture. Traditional winemaking includes extended maceration and aging (minimum three years). Barolo is known for firm tannins and aromas of tar, roses, and spice. Some producers include Gaja, Pio Cesare and La Spinona. $50 to $150+

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO (TUSCANY)

Made from 100% Sangiovese (locally called Brunello), this wine has roots in the 19th century when clones were isolated for quality. Viticulture emphasizes low yields and long ripening in Montalcino’s warm, dry climate. Wines are aged extensively (minimum 5 years for Riserva). Flavor profiles include dark cherry, leather, and spice. Notable producers include Biondi-Santi and Casanova di Neri. $60–$200

Nando Lardi

AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA (VENETO)

Amarone is produced using the appassimento method — grapes are partially dried to concentrate sugars before fermentation. This technique dates back to Roman-era sweet wines but evolved into a dry style in the 20th century. Made primarily from Corvina, Amarone is rich, full-bodied, and high in alcohol, with flavors of dried fruit, chocolate, and spice. Producers like Allegrini and Zenato dominate. $50 -$120

CHIANTI (TUSCANY)

Chianti has medieval origins and is based primarily on Sangiovese (minimum 80%). Viticulture often includes hillside planting to preserve acidity. Modern winemaking balances tradition with oak aging. The wine shows red cherry, herbs, and bright acidity. Leading producers include Antinori and Ricasoli. $15–$50

PRIMITIVO (PUGLIA)

Genetically identical to Zinfandel, Primitivo thrives in the hot, dry climate of southern Italy. Historically cultivated for its early ripening (“primo”), it produces bold wines with jammy blackberry and spice notes. Minimal intervention winemaking is common. The best area is the Primitivo made in Manduria. Producers include Tormaresca and Le Vigne Di Sammarco. $12–$30

AGLIANICO (CAMPANIA/BASILICATA)

An ancient grape likely introduced by the Greeks, Aglianico is known for its structure and aging potential. Grown in volcanic soils (notably Taurasi and Aglianico del Vulture), it undergoes long maceration and aging. Flavor profile includes black fruit, smoke, and earth. A top producer is Mastroberardino. $20–$60

PECORINO (ABRUZZO/MARCHE)

Not to be confused with the cheese, Pecorino is an indigenous white grape revived in the late 20th century. It thrives in cooler, highaltitude vineyards. Winemaking focuses on preserving freshness, and wines show citrus, herbs, and minerality. Producers include Umani Ronchi and Rosarubra. $15–$30

VERMENTINO (SARDINIA/ LIGURIA/TUSCANY)

A coastal grape influenced by maritime climates, Vermentino is often grown in sandy or granitic soils. It produces aromatic wines with citrus, saline notes, and herbal complexity. Typically fermented in stainless steel to preserve aromatics. Producers include Argiolas and Cantina Castiadis. $15–$25

PINOT GRIGIO (VENETO/FRIULI)

Originally from Burgundy (Pinot Gris), Pinot Grigio is a commercial powerhouse in northeastern Italy. Viticulture prioritizes high yields and early harvesting for freshness. Light-bodied with citrus and green apple flavors, it is often made in a clean, stainless-steel style. Producers include Santa Margherita, who started the whole Pinot Grigio craze in the U.S. years ago. But Livio Felluga produces elegant, sophisticated wines in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. $10-$25

FIANO DI AVELLINO (CAMPANIA)

Fiano is an ancient grape once favored by Roman nobility. Grown in volcanic soils around Avellino, it benefits from warm days and cool nights. Winemaking may include lees aging for texture. Flavor profile includes honey, hazelnut, and stone fruit. A well-known producer is Feudi di San Gregorio. $20–$40

SOAVE CLASSICO (VENETO)

Made primarily from Garganega, Soave Classico originates from hillside vineyards with volcanic soils. Historically undervalued, modern producers focus on low yields and quality. Wines are fresh yet complex, with notes of almond, citrus, and white flowers. Producers include Pieropan. Prices: $15–$35

ETNA BIANCO (SICILY)

Produced on the slopes of Mount Etna, this wine is made mainly from Carricante. Volcanic soils and high-altitude vineyards define its viticulture. Winemaking emphasizes minerality and precision. Flavor profile includes citrus, smoke, and saline notes. Producers include Benanti and Planeta. $25–$50

These wines collectively showcase Italy’s commitment to regional identity, indigenous grapes, and traditional practices. From the structured longevity of Barolo and Aglianico to the vibrant freshness of Vermentino and Etna Bianco, Italian wines offer a spectrum of styles shaped by climate, soil, and history. For U.S. consumers, they remain accessible across a wide price range, making Italy one of the most compelling wine-producing nations in the world. stb
