THE BOCA RATON GIVES BACK

Since 1926, The Boca Raton has been an integral part of the South Florida community. The iconic private Club and resort has launched The Boca Raton Foundation for Charitable Giving, a philanthropic arm that aims to expand the property’s long-standing commitment to community giving. The program is unique in design, by which associates nominate local charities for grant consideration, serve on the selection committee, and determine where grant funds are directed. Eligible nonprofits must operate programs within one of three focus areas: Food Security, Education, and Women and Children. This spring, the Foundation awarded more than $150,000 to 15 South Florida nonprofits in and around Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties,

including Boca Raton-based organization HomeSafe (helphomesafe.org).

HomeSafe was nominated for consideration by an associate of The Boca Raton based on her direct knowledge of its work and impact. “We are deeply honored to receive this $25k grant from The Boca Raton Foundation for Charitable Giving,” said Matthew Ladika, CEO of HomeSafe. “This support will make a real difference for the children and families we serve every day. What makes this moment truly extraordinary is knowing that HomeSafe was nominated by someone who was once in our care and who, twenty-five years later, is now championing the mission that helped shape her future.”

TRANSFORM YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE

As more Americans rethink their skin care rituals, the rise of clean beauty is inspiring a shift toward pure, intentional ingredients rooted in nature.

For many people, skin care is as simple as applying a daily moisturizer. But a 2025 survey conducted for Aura Cacia by Suzy, a leading end-to-end market research platform, shows that consumers are asking deeper questions about what’s in their products and how those ingredients support their overall well-being.

Survey respondents signaled a growing desire for skin care rooted in simplicity, transparency and ingredients closer to nature. When asked to rank their top priorities, nearly half of consumers chose “100% pure and natural ingredients” (48%), and “non-toxic or clean formulations” (45%). Others prioritized “minimal ingredient lists” (30%) and “fragrance-free” or “no synthetic fragrance” options (25%).

According to Jennifer Kellison, botanical beauty expert and director of innovation at Aura Cacia, botanical ingredients are a natural fit for these needs. “Clean beauty is less about trends and more about intention,” says Kellison.

HOW TO GET STARTED

in skin care.

• For face: Create a nourishing and toning facial serum by diluting neroli and lavender essential oil in rosehip oil and jojoba oil. Massage a small amount into clean, slightly damp skin in the morning and before bed.

• For body: Use plant-based carrier oils and body butters as daily moisturizers. These provide easy, skin-loving hydration. For deep hydration, try jojoba oil or castor oil. Both are noncomedogenic and work well as daily moisturizers or overnight treatments depending on your skin’s needs.

• For hair: Use argan oil for rejuvenating hair and scalp massages. Customize your routine by blending one to two drops of your favorite essential oil into each small dropperful of argan oil for a personalized touch.

• For nails and cuticles: Massage castor oil into your nail beds and around cuticles to lock in moisture, soften skin and support healthier-looking nails.

Mercurio notes that personalization is key when working with botanicals. “Everyone’s skin and hair have different needs,” she explains. “Starting with a few carefully selected plant oils allows you to build a routine that feels simple, effective and tailored to you.”

While many think of clean beauty as a trend limited to facial care, experts say the opportunity extends far beyond that. While skin care priorities may vary from hydration to protecting overall skin health, essential oils and plant-based ingredients have long been valued for their ability to support more holistic care when used intentionally.

“When formulations are kept simple and ingredients are chosen with purpose, botanicals can offer unique support for hydration, balance and overall skin wellness in a gentle, yet effective way,” says Elena Mercurio, aromatherapist and educator for Aura Cacia.

Beginning a clean beauty routine doesn’t have to be complicated. It starts with understanding how essential oils and carrier oils support your skin.

• Essential oils, such as lavender or tea tree essential oil, are highly concentrated plant extracts known for their aroma and targeted benefits. Because of their potency, they must always be diluted before being applied to the skin.

• Carrier oils, such as jojoba oil, sweet almond oil or castor oil, act as a base to safely dilute and apply essential oils to your skin. They contain antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that provide deep nourishment and support skin needs.

EVERYDAY TIPS

Thoughtfully chosen essential oils and carrier oils can transform simple daily self-care routines into nourishing rituals, particularly

This approach works whether you’re at home or on the go, like singer-songwriter Avery Anna. When Avery is on tour, simplicity is key for her skin care routine. “When I’m on the road, I don’t want anything complicated,” she shares. “A few oils like frankincense and rosehip oil help keep my skin feeling hydrated and plump, even on my busiest days.”

BEHIND EVERY BOTTLE

Aura Cacia is rooted in helping you feel good inside and out, from the natural grounding effect of our products and the peace of mind that comes with knowing your choice supports ethical and socially responsible practices.

“We understand that clean beauty also has ethical implications,” says Kellison. “That’s why all our products are cruelty-free, with no preservatives, artificial colors or synthetic fragrances. We also offer an extensive line of USDA Certified Organic options, reflecting our commitment to both personal wellness and broader social and environmental impact.”

Central to this commitment is the Aura Cacia Positive Change Project, which is celebrating 10 years of investing in organizations that help women and girls make transformational improvements in their lives. Since its launch, the program has contributed more than $1 million to organizations supporting meaningful change across the U.S. and Canada. AuraCacia.com

RED, WHITE & REFINED

As America approaches its 250th anniversary celebration, patriotic fashion is enjoying a sophisticated resurgence. Designers are embracing heritage-inspired dressing through refined interpretations of red, white, and blue, while consumers are gravitating toward pieces that celebrate national pride with elegance rather than overt symbolism. From nautical stripes and crisp white tailoring to rich navy separates and subtle ruby accents, the trend reflects a renewed appreciation for timeless American style.

The key to keeping patriotic fashion chic is restraint. Rather than leaning into flag motifs or novelty graphics, luxury dressers are opting for elevated fabrics, impeccable tailoring, and a considered color palette. Think a navy blazer paired with ivory trousers, a scarlet silk accessory, or classic denim styled with polished essentials. The most successful looks reference Americana through craftsmanship, heritage, and confidence, allowing the colors of the season to feel effortlessly sophisticated. In the year of America’s semiquincentennial, patriotism is proving that it can be both celebratory and fashionable. stb

5 REASONS TO AVOID WAXING PRE-FLIGHT

TIMCA PRUIJT, HAIR REMOVAL EXPERT FROM LASER HAIR REMOVALO, IS WARNING TRAVELERS NOT TO GET A WAX IMMEDIATELY BEFORE BOARDING A FLIGHT, AS IT COULD LEAD TO PAINFUL SKIN PROBLEMS. SHE SAYS THE CONDITIONS INSIDE AIRCRAFT CABINS CAN WORSEN POST-WAX SKIN IRRITATION, CAUSING REDNESS, INCREASED SENSITIVITY AND POTENTIAL INFECTION RISKS.

1CABIN AIR IS DRY

“We can easily feel our lips chapping, our nose drying and our eyes getting itchy, but we rarely remember our skin is suffering too,” Pruijt explains. Newly waxed skin will have its protective hair layer removed, and tiny pores are left open and exposed.

“After waxing, your skin needs time to recover and close those open pores. The ultra-dry cabin air draws moisture from your skin at the worst possible time – right when it needs hydration to heal properly,” she adds.

2 SKIN NEEDS 48 HOURS TO HEAL

According to Pruijt, sitting in a confined space for hours with compromised skin creates ideal conditions for bacteria to multiply, potentially leading to spots, rashes, or even infections.

For travelers who still want to be hair-free on arrival, she recommends planning beauty treatments carefully.

“Get your waxing done at least 48 hours before your flight. This gives your skin adequate time to recover and those open pores to close,” she advises.

She also suggests applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer before the flight to create a protective barrier.

3 AIRPORTS ARE DIRTY

“Our hands contact multiple surfaces in airports, planes, taxis, buses, and cafes. We then inevitably touch our skin with those hands, breeding with bacteria,” Pruijt explains. While you cannot exactly cover a waxed upper lip or brow, you could swap shorts for loose trousers and tank tops for airy, longsleeved shirts to give your fragile skin an extra layer of protection from unsanitary surfaces and your own contaminated hands.” She also noted that wearing loose, comfortable clothing on the flight is essential if you have recently had a wax, particularly for sensitive areas.

4 WAXING CAN CAUSE RASHES

If you are used to waxing as your preferred hair removal method, you may be reluctant to consider alternatives or combinations thereof.

“Many travelers now opt for a waxing appointment a few days before their flight and pack a small razor for touch-ups if needed during their holiday,” she says. “If you travel often or want longer-lasting results, treatments like laser hair removal might be worth considering. Unlike waxing, once a course of laser treatments is complete, there is no need to worry about last-minute hair removal before flights.”

5

SUN EXPOSURE CAN DAMAGE SENSITIVE SKIN

Pruijt also advises taking extra care with sun exposure after both waxing and flying. “Newly waxed or dehydrated skin makes you more susceptible to sun damage. You should avoid applying sunscreen on freshly irritated skin, which is why, if you do need to step out the following 24 hours, cover your skin with clothing rather than sunscreen, depending on the area.

Make sure you are extra vigilant with sunscreen once you reach your destination,” she warns.

LAST-MINUTE REMEDIES

For those who have already made the mistake of waxing too close to their flight, Pruijt recommends applying aloe vera gel to soothe and hydrate the skin, Panthenol-based formulas with no alcohol to speed up the healing process, and high-quality thermal water spray to alleviate pain.

“The most important thing is to listen to your skin. If you notice unusual redness, swelling, or pain after flying with freshly waxed skin, clean the area gently with just warm water and apply a cold compress. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice,” she concludes. laserhairremovalo.com

neighbors Rachel Miller Launches SoundBridge to Connect Students with Music Opportunities

For Rachel Miller, music has never been just an extracurricular activity. It has been a source of confidence, opportunity, and personal growth. Now, at just 16 years old, she is working to ensure other students have access to those same opportunities through the nonprofit organization she founded, SoundBridge

A student at American Heritage School in Delray Beach, Florida, Rachel has been involved in music for nearly her entire life. She began singing on stage at age two, started studying piano and voice at age three, learned the flute in middle school, and later added the saxophone to her musical journey in high school. Through music, she found not only a creative outlet but also a community and opportunities that helped shape who she is today.

Inspired by the impact music has had on her own life, Rachel founded SoundBridge, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students overcome financial barriers to music education through instrument access, mentorship, and educational support. “Music has opened doors for me that I never expected,” Rachel said. “It has helped build my confidence, taught me discipline, and connected me with incredible opportunities and people. I wanted to create a way for other students to experience those same benefits.”

The idea for SoundBridge originally centered on providing instruments to students who could not afford them. However, as Rachel began developing the organization, she realized that access alone would not solve the problem. “I also spend time tutoring students in academic subjects,” she said. “One day I realized that you can give a student all the math problems in the world, but if you never teach them how to solve them, the problems won’t help them. The same thing applies to music. You can give a student an instrument, but without guidance, instruction, and encouragement, it may never have the impact it could.”

That realization transformed SoundBridge from an instrument donation initiative into a mentorship-driven organization focused on helping students build both musical skills and confidence. Through volunteer mentors, educational resources, and personalized support, students receive more than just access to an instrument; they receive the tools needed to succeed.

Rachel chose the name SoundBridge to reflect the organization’s deeper mission. She

believes that talent can be found everywhere, but opportunity cannot. “Musical talent is universal, but access to opportunity isn’t,” she said. “SoundBridge exists to help close that gap by connecting students with the instruments, mentorship, and support they need to succeed.”

At SoundBridgeMusic.org, students interested in participating can complete a questionnaire outlining their interests and musical goals. High school musicians can also volunteer as mentors, providing guidance and encouragement while earning community service hours.

As SoundBridge continues to grow, Rachel is focused on expanding its mentorship programs, building partnerships with schools and music organizations, and increasing access to music education for students who may otherwise be left behind. Looking ahead, she hopes to develop a model that can be replicated in communities across the country.

“Music has the power to change lives,” Rachel said. “I’ve seen firsthand how it can build confidence, improve academic performance, and help students discover strengths they didn’t know they had. If SoundBridge can help even one student unlock that potential, then we’re making a difference.”

Through SoundBridge, Rachel is transforming her passion for music into a mission of opportunity: building bridges that help young musicians discover not only their talents, but also their potential. stb

The SpotSweet

There was a time when Amanda Seyfried seemed destined to remain trapped within the confines of Hollywood’s idea of the “perfect ingénue”. Blonde, wide-eyed and softly spoken, she emerged during an era when young actresses were often reduced to aesthetic shorthand rather than recognized for complexity or longevity.

The remarkable thing about Seyfried’s career is how quietly she dismantled those assumptions.

Rather than chasing obvious blockbusters or overexposing herself within celebrity culture, she built her reputation carefully, mostly through emotionally intelligent performances, unusual creative choices and an authenticity that audiences instinctively trust. “I think you know in yourself when you’re suited to pursuing a linear route, and when you actually just want to break out and do something a bit different,” she begins. “I knew which side

AMANDA SEYFRIED HAS CARVED A DISTINCTIVE PLACE IN HOLLYWOOD THROUGH HER VERSATILITY AND EMOTIONAL AUTHENTICITY.

FROM EARLY BREAKOUT ROLES IN MEAN GIRLS AND MAMMA MIA! TO CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED PERFORMANCES IN LES MISÉRABLES, FIRST REFORMED AND THE DROPOUT, SEYFRIED HAS CONSISTENTLY DEMONSTRATED AN ABILITY TO INHABIT CHARACTERS WITH NUANCE AND DEPTH. YET WHAT MAKES THE ACTRESS PARTICULARLY COMPELLING IN 2026 IS NOT SIMPLY THE RANGE OF HER WORK, BUT THE LIFE SHE HAS BUILT AROUND IT. FASHION FAVORITE, MOTHER OF TWO, DEVOTED ANIMAL LOVER AND INCREASINGLY SELECTIVE CREATIVE FORCE, SEYFRIED APPEARS TO HAVE ARRIVED AT A STAGE WHERE CAREER AMBITION AND PERSONAL CONTENTMENT COEXIST NATURALLY. AS SHE EXPLAINS TO SIMPLY THE BEST, EXPERIENCE HAS TAUGHT HER THAT SUCCESS MEANS VERY LITTLE IF IT COMES AT THE EXPENSE OF PEACE OF MIND.

of the line I was going to come down on, so really it was just a case of knowing how far across that divide I should step.”

Wind forward and today, nearly 25 years after her professional debut, Seyfried occupies a rare position in Hollywood: both famous and believable.

“I’ve become more intentional about choosing roles that challenge me and resonate emotionally,” she explains. “I know that sounds obvious, and possibly a bit of a cliché; but when you’re younger it’s a lot easier to be led by people around you, or trends.”

That self-awareness has become central to Seyfried’s appeal. There is little sense of someone desperately trying to maintain relevance. Instead, she appears increasingly comfortable with evolution happening naturally.

“To do that actually takes bravery that I’m not sure I had at one point,” she continues. “Definitely, these days, I’m more pa-

tient with preparation and I trust my instincts, which has allowed me to take risks and deepen my performances.”

Professionally, the risks continue to pay off. Seyfried’s recent work has ranged from dark psychological drama and historical storytelling through to offbeat comedy and prestige television. It’s all proof of an actress uninterested in repetition.

“What excites me most are stories that explore relationships, identity, and moral complexity,” she says. “I’m drawn to characters that reveal unexpected layers; I’m drawn to narratives that encourage audiences to think and feel deeply.”

That appetite for complexity perhaps explains why Seyfried has matured into such a compelling screen presence. Earlier in her career, there was often a sweetness to her performances that filmmakers leaned on heavily. Now, there is edge, ambiguity and confidence beneath the surface.

“I spend a lot of time understanding a character’s inner world,” she explains. “I think about what motivates them and what fears they carry.”

Importantly, she says she has also become more emotionally resilient as an actor.

“In the past, I may have shied away from darker material because it would have been too much to take it back home with me at the end of each night. Where I am right now in life, I’m more open to going there creatively.”

“I have said for years that the farm saved me, because I was finding LA and the environment around work just so stressful.”

That sense of emotional stability has coincided with major changes away from the camera. Much has been written about Seyfried’s decision to step back from the traditional Hollywood lifestyle in favour of a quieter existence on a farm in upstate New York with husband Thomas Sadoski, their two children, and a sprawling collection of animals.

Far from a temporary celebrity escape fantasy, the move fundamentally changed her relationship with fame.

“I have said for years that the farm saved me, because I was finding LA and the environment around work just so stressful,” she says. “In reality, of course, it wasn’t the farm — it was the pets and animals who live on the farm!”

The image of Seyfried knee-deep in muddy boots feeding goats or chasing chickens has become strangely refreshing in an industry so often built on artifice. While many celebrities attempt to cultivate relatability online, hers appears entirely genuine.

“Every day they remind me what’s real in life,” she says. “They don’t care about awards or premieres. They care if you’re five minutes late with their food.”

Central to that world is Finn, her much-loved Australian Shepherd who, despite now being 15 years old, remains one of the great emotional constants of her life.

“I honestly don’t know who I’d be without Finn,” she says warmly. “He’s been with me through the hardest times of my life, from the ups and downs of work to the challenges of motherhood.”

The affection is mutual. Finn has accompanied Seyfried to interviews, photoshoots and premieres for years, developing an unexpectedly devoted fanbase of his own.

“He’s better at modelling than me,” she laughs. “He knows his angles. He’ll just sit there, completely regal, while I’m fidgeting.”

Animals, she insists, offer a kind of honesty that people often struggle to provide.

“People ask me why I surround myself with animals, and I say, ‘Why wouldn’t I?’ They never lie to you. They never let you down.”

Motherhood, meanwhile, has shifted her outlook in even deeper ways. Seyfried speaks candidly about the anxiety she struggled with for years, admitting that becoming a parent forced her to move beyond self-protection. “Ultimately, becoming a mother sorts out so much in you and gives you a platform where you realize your purpose isn’t self-protection, it’s actually in looking after this other little life.”

That perspective has also influenced how she approaches the entertainment industry itself. Unlike many stars who appear permanently connected to the pace and visibility of social media culture, Seyfried remains refreshingly detached from it all. There is no obvious hunger for constant attention. Instead, she prioritizes privacy, routine and stability.

“It’s a constant juggling act,” she says of balancing work and home life. “I prioritize routines and make sure to carve out time for family. Being present with them keeps me grounded and reminds me why I do this work.”

That groundedness extends to fashion; an area where Seyfried has quietly become one of Hollywood’s most admired dressers. Whether appearing in minimalist tailoring, soft romantic silhouettes or understated vintage-inspired couture, her style rarely feels overworked.

In many ways, it mirrors her personality: elegant without trying too hard.

Fashion insiders often note how effortless Seyfried appears in her own skin. “I’m pretty comfortable with how I look,” she says. “That’s something it takes a while to experience as a woman. We’re always looking at our flaws.”

Ironically, the very features she once worried about became defining strengths. “In school all the kids made fun of my big eyes,” she recalls. “But when I started getting acting jobs then my eyes became something that people loved about me. That

kind of teaches you something about just accepting yourself.

“I think we’re all there from time to time where we realize our imperfections become our selling points. I think also, sometimes it’s the jobs you didn’t get that lead to opportunities elsewhere. It’s strange, but it’s life, and you’ve got to accept that.”

Acceptance, in fact, seems to be the underlying theme of Seyfried’s life today — it’s less about perfection and more about ease. These days, celebrity image is often hyper-managed and relentlessly filtered, yet the actress represents something increasingly unusual: someone willing to look polished without appearing manufactured. To that end, she admits she remains sceptical of the pressure modern women face to endlessly optimize their appearance.

“We’re always looking at our flaws,” she says. “I think women are taught very early to analyze themselves too harshly, and it can take years to unlearn that.”

The actress has spoken openly in the past about the pressures she experienced during the early stages of her career, particularly at a time when Hollywood’s beauty standards were notoriously unforgiving. Yet age and experience, she suggests, have brought a healthier perspective.

“I’m pretty comfortable with how I look now,” she explains. “That doesn’t mean you wake up every day feeling amazing, but you realize how exhausting it is to constantly fight yourself.”

Interestingly, Seyfried’s beauty routine appears to mirror the wider pace of her life: understated, practical and rooted in wellbeing rather than performance. Friends and collaborators often describe her as someone more interested in sleep, fresh air and mental balance than elaborate rituals or cosmetic trends. Living away from Los Angeles has only strengthened that approach.

“The farm changes everything,” she says. “You spend enough time outside, around animals, around real life, and your priorities shift. You stop worrying so much about looking perfect all the time.”

That does not mean ambition has disappeared. Professionally, she remains one of the industry’s busiest and most respected performers, with multiple projects in development spanning film, television and streaming.

Yet increasingly, the choices appear guided less by expectation and more by instinct. “Focus on craft, not on recognition,” she says, reflecting on advice she gives younger actors entering the industry today. “Observe, listen, and take risks creatively. Don’t chase trends.”

It is advice she herself seems finally able to live by completely. Even her more eccentric passions — including a fascination with antique dolls, sentimental objects and taxidermy — reflect someone comfortable embracing contradiction rather than polishing it away.

“I’m a hoarder,” she laughs. “I always keep everything. I guess I’m very sentimental and I have a tough time letting go of things which have certain memories for me.

“On the whole, life just feels very short and I wonder how I’m going to get everything done that I want to,” she admits. “But getting married and becoming a mother was such a big thing - it was a real milestone, and actually something that relaxed me. It convinced me I had achieved something important and I didn’t need to perhaps keep trying so hard to find the next thing.”

So for now — with Netflix’s animation Steps on its way (in which the actress plays Cinderella), plus musical Octet and thriller The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd — there is little sense of dissatisfaction. Instead, Amanda Seyfried seems to have located something many stars spend a lifetime pursuing: balance. stb

THE BEST REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS AND PROPERTIES IN SOUTH FLORIDA

AN AMERICAN CLASSIC: HARRY GESNER’S ERENHAULT HOUSE IN BEVERLY HILLS

Harry Gesner was an acclaimed American architect known for his imaginative designs that blended modernism with a deep respect for nature. Born in 1925, Gesner followed an unconventional path into architecture. After serving in the US Army during World War II, he went on to become a television cartoonist, an archaeologist, and a waterskiing instructor before studying architecture at Yale University under Frank Lloyd Wright. He soon tired of school and advanced in the field without a degree. He drew inspiration from surfing culture, organic forms, and the California coastline. He is perhaps best known for the iconic Wave House in Malibu, which appears to crest like an ocean wave, embodying his philosophy of harmonizing structures with their surroundings.

Gesner’s work often featured dramatic angles, natural materials, and integration with the landscape. Over his long career, he designed homes, restaurants, and public buildings, many of which became landmarks. Gesner’s legacy lies in his ability to merge art, environment, and function into a uniquely expressive architectural language that continues to inspire designers today.

The opportunity to own a piece of the legendary architect’s vision presents itself with the listing of the Erenhault House for $28 million. The 6,474-square-foot home is built directly onto natural stone on a spacious elevated lot in Beverly Hills’ Trousdale Estates, offering sweeping canyon, city, and coastline views, extending to Catalina Island.

Built in 1970, standout features of the home include a sunken living area enclosed by expansive windows and a skylit atrium that acts as a vertical channel for natural light. The layout flows effortlessly, balancing spaces suited for large gatherings with more intimate, private areas. A newly updated Poliform kitchen adds a modern touch while respecting the home’s original architectural intent.

Each of the home’s six bedrooms includes its own en-suite bath and is positioned to capture scenic views. The primary suite, defined by floor-to-ceiling glass, gives the impression of floating above the surrounding landscape. Outside, find a gorgeous sunken pool and several terraces thoughtfully arranged to highlight the fantastic vistas. Gesner’s Erenhault House is featured in Houses of the Sundown Sea, a publication showcasing the home’s original plans and concept sketches, reinforcing its status as a notable work for collectors of architecturally significant homes.

Trousdale Estates was developed in the 1950s and ‘60s for the crème de la crème of Beverly Hills society by real estate developer Paul Trousdale, with the slogan “Life Above It All.” Spread out over 400 acres at one of the highest points in Beverly Hills with designs by Frank Lloyd Wright, A. Quincy Jones, and Paul Williams, famous residents, past and current, include Elvis Presley, Katy Perry, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Aniston and Vera Wang. With an $11 million average home price, it is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the world. Trey Alligood of The Alligood Group at Douglas Elliman holds the listing. toptenrealestatedeals.com stb

WALTER S. WHITE’S PALM DESERT GEM COMES TO MARKET

Walter S. White was a prolific and innovative modernist architect, best known for advancing the use of geometry to passively control temperature. A fearless inventor, he held patents for a solar heat exchanger window wall and the hyperbolic paraboloid roof—concepts that continue to be used in desert architecture today. In keeping with the modern movement, his constructions were stylish but functional, making use of industrial materials and thoughtful integration with the natural landscape. He worked extensively in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley, pursuing a vision of desert modernism that integrated structure, material, and light with the unique arid landscape. The Paulette Herbert Johnson House, nestled in South Palm Desert’s charming, historic Silver Spur Ranch neighborhood, is a gorgeous example of the architect’s work. Constructed in 1958, the modern residence has been listed for $1.755 million.

White’s home design has a classic modern profile, with clean lines and floor-to-ceiling glass, offering fantastic natural light and an airy, open feel. The open floor plan is enhanced by terrazzo floors, original wood paneling, and White’s signature masonry walls, while desert views abound from every room. Designers Garret & Garage have tastefully updated the home, blending contemporary luxuries with original finishes and curating a tasteful, refined aesthetic while preserving the architectural mastery of the original design.

Outside, find a private oasis with a sparkling pebble-finish pool and spa surrounded by lush palm trees. A beautiful architectural breeze-block detail anchors the space. The 15,682-square-foot grounds encompass multiple fire features, several lounge and dining spaces, an outdoor kitchen, a putting green, and a bocce ball court, offering an excellent setup for both entertaining and private relaxation. For golf fans, the home is located close to nu-

merous golf courses and country clubs, including Indian Wells Country Club, Stone Eagle Golf Club, and The Citrus Club at PGA West.

The Silver Spur Ranch neighborhood was started in 1957 by prolific Tarzan movie producer Sol Lesser and a consortium of business leaders as a prestige development. Silver Spur’s modern ranch homes defined desert luxury in the postwar era. Spanning 400 acres of picturesque Palm Desert land, the development attracted movie stars, including actors Bing Crosby, Phil Harris and Randolph Scott. JFK was known to vacation at these celebrity homes while visiting California. Today, this storied enclave is popular for its wellpreserved architectural homes, which retain the unique character of the modern age. Palm Desert is a hot spot with A-listers looking to get away from it all, with the Kardashian family, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert Downey Jr. being just a few of the big names with vacation retreats in the area. The listing is held by Reagan Richter at Compass. toptenrealestatedeals.com stb

“After helping build Transworld from a small Florida operation into a global business brokerage organization, I reached a point where I knew it was time to consider my own next chapter.”

For more than 30 years, I helped entrepreneurs buy and sell businesses. I spent my career sitting across conference tables discussing valuation, growth strategies, succession planning, and exits. I oversaw thousands of transactions and watched owners wrestle with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

After a while, you start believing you have seen every situation imaginable. Then I found myself sitting in the seller’s chair.

After helping build Transworld from a small Florida operation into a global business brokerage organization, I reached a point where I knew it was time to consider my own next chapter. On paper, I understood the decision. The timing made sense. The business was strong. Value had been created. And then the offer came around.

Logically, it was an easy decision. Emotionally, it was not. That surprised me.

I had spent decades helping business owners through this exact process. I knew all the reasons people hold on too long. I understood the financial side, the market timing, and the importance of maximizing value and not missing opportunities.

But I learned something that I had been telling clients for years and perhaps never fully appreciated until I experienced it myself:

Selling a business is rarely about money alone. Businesses become deeply personal. They represent years of sacrifice, risk, late nights, relationships, victories, disappointments, and identity. For entrepreneurs especially, the line between who you are and what you built can slowly disappear.

You do not just wake up one day and decide to sell a business. You wake up and ask yourself difficult questions:

Who am I if I am no longer doing this?

• What happens to the people who helped build it?

• Will someone else take care of what I created?

Am I making the right decision?

I watched countless clients ask these questions over the years. I just never expected how hard they would become when I asked them myself.

The interesting thing is that I intellectually knew I was ready long before

I emotionally felt ready. I knew we had built systems with our partners at United Franchise Group. I knew we had strong leadership. I knew we had developed people and created something that could continue succeeding without depending entirely on me.

But logic and emotion do not always travel at the same speed. Even after thousands of transactions, I still needed advice.

I still needed people around me who could challenge my thinking, reassure me, and help me navigate decisions objectively. I needed people who could remind me why I had reached this point in the first place. I needed guidance.

That realization gave me a greater appreciation for what business owners experience every day. As entrepreneurs, we are often conditioned to believe we are supposed to have all the answers. We become problem solvers. We become decision makers. We become the people others rely on.

But sometimes even leaders need someone sitting across the table from them. Sometimes they need expertise, perspective, and permission to let go. The biggest lesson I learned through the process is that no one is ever fully ready.

Not emotionally. Not mentally. Not completely. The goal is not reaching a moment where all uncertainty disappears. The goal is understanding that it can continue succeeding without you and you have done enough.

If you have done that, then perhaps selling is not an ending at all. Perhaps it is simply the beginning of the next chapter.

In my case, I was fortunate that my story did not end with a complete goodbye. I retained ownership of our Florida offices and continue doing what I have always loved: helping entrepreneurs navigate important decisions and helping people build and sell businesses.

The difference now is perspective. I no longer sit only on the advisor’s side of the table. I have also sat in the seller’s chair. I understand firsthand the excitement, uncertainty, and emotion that come with letting go of something you spent years building.

And perhaps that has made me a better advisor than I was before. stb

Breaking the Foot Pain Cycle

The food server, retail worker and nurse all have one thing in common: they spend most of their day standing. They, along with thousands of others, suffer from foot pain that they assume is a normal condition of their occupation. One patient of mine admitted that “for too long I accepted my sore, achy feet and the overall body fatigue they caused, as the natural consequence of getting older ... it seemed natural to me to have foot pain after more than a half century of running, playing sports and otherwise racking up foot mileage.”

HOW HIGH PERFORMANCE CUSTOM ORTHOTICS CAN HELP

“The orthotics made for me didn’t just mitigate my problems, they virtually solved them.”

UNDERSTANDING FOOT PAIN

Most people don’t realize that foot pain isn’t a result of stress from standing or walking, but rather from inappropriate, standardized footwear. If you need eyeglasses, you wouldn’t wear a pair without customizing them to your prescription because your eyes would hurt and you’d experience headaches. It’s the same with orthotics. Foot pain occurs because the muscles in the bottom of the foot are stretching abnormally due to an improper arch in your shoes. If your arch is not properly supported as you walk, your foot muscles become stretched and fatigued because they are not being held up by your skeletal structure.

Using Full Contact Technology, I mold high performance orthotics, making a precise match for your arch. This changes how your foot functions during everyday activities, allowing it to reform into a normal shape that permits painfree function. This is a breakthrough from the oldfashioned techniques most podiatrists use which don’t allow for full contact of the arch, thereby making the foot collapse as you walk. The antiquated types of orthotics only alleviated a portion of the pain, and often times only on a temporary basis.

One patient of mine testifies that “the orthotics Dr. Garvin made for me didn’t just mitigate my problems, they virtually solved them.” Another states that “in less than one week after getting your custom orthotics all pain and discomfort left me” and he felt ten years younger. It’s also important to understand that your feet affect other parts of your body. Most patients who experience relief from foot pain also find pain disappearing in their knees, hips, spine, and more, which makes our highperformance orthotics lifeenhancers rather than just pain relievers. stb

How effective is TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) for Treatment Resistant Major Depression? (TMS series Part 1 of 3)

Raul J Rodriguez M.D. is the founder, CEO and Medical Director of the Delray Center For Healing and the Delray Center for Brain Science, outpatient Mental Health Treatment Centers, which follow a holistic approach and offer comprehensive Major Depression treatment programs that include advanced treatments such as Brain Network Analytics (BNA), therapeutic Ketamine infusions, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), advanced psychopharmacology, DBT psychotherapy and skills training, exercise therapy, nutritional therapy, acupuncture, meditation, and yoga.

Treatment Resistant Major Depression (TRD) is one of the most dreadful conditions that anyone could ever suffer from. TRD is a painful existence devoid of happiness and pleasure. TRD, the most severe grade of depression defined by multiple medication and therapy failures, often becomes a hopeless situation. Quality of life suffers, as do personal relationships. Functional capacity is impaired and progressively declines over time in afflicted individuals. Many people raise the white flag and surrender, believing that chronic depression is their said lot in life. Others want to keep fighting but do not know what to do. After 1 or 2 bad years of failed treatments, those affected by depression start to fear they are running out of options. Major advances in Psychiatry over the last decade have created new and powerful options for the treatment of TRD. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, referred to as “TMS” is the most groundbreaking of these new options.

Q: What is TMS?

TMS is the acronym for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, which is a cutting edge treatment for depression that involves stimulation of brain tissue using electromagnetic pulses. This noninvasive procedure improves symptoms of depression by activating the parts of the brain associated with mood control and depression. TMS has grown in popularity due to the high degree of effectiveness for Treatment Resistant Depression while having very few side effects and absolutely no circulation of medication in the bloodstream.

Q: What is the TMS procedure like? The process starts with the placement of an electromagnetic coil over the scalp near the forehead. The motor strip, the area of the brain responsible for movement of limbs and muscles, is then mapped out. This is necessary in order to subsequently determine the location

“TMS has grown in popularity due to the high degree of effectiveness for Treatment Resistant Depression while having very few side effects.”

of the lateral pre-frontal cortex. The actual procedure involves a delivering a sequence of magnetic pulses to the left lateral pre-frontal cortex to induce stimulation. The magnetic pulses pass through the scalp and the skull to reach the target brain tissue. TMS activates the actual neurons by inducing an electrical current in the part of the brain cell called the axon. This current travels to the nerve cell body and then affects other connecting brain cells. This stimulation ultimately creates the powerful antidepressant effect.

Q: When is TMS indicated?

TMS is indicated when conventional treatments for Major Depression have not worked. Insurance coverage is typically approved for individuals who have been diagnosed with Major Depression and have failed at least 4 different medication trials. TMS can be used to treat pregnant women suffering from depression, with the notable advantage of not exposing the unborn child to any potential ill effects from medications. TMS is also an option for individuals who suffer from Major Depression and do not wish to take medications, even as a first line option.

Q: When was TMS approved by the FDA?

TMS was approved by the FDA for the indication of treatment resistant depression in 2008. Deep TMS, possible with the newer generation of TMS technology, was approved by the FDA for the indication of treatment resistant depression in 2013. stb

THE DEATH OF TRADITIONAL SEARCH: HOW AI IS CHANGING GOOGLE FOREVER Why Businesses Must Adapt Before Their Competitors Do

For years, businesses relied on a simple formula: rank on Google, get traffic, generate leads. That formula is changing.

Artificial intelligence is transforming how consumers find information online. Tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Google’s AI Overviews are increasingly providing direct answers, reducing the number of websites users visit before making a decision.

In many cases, customers are no longer searching—they’re asking AI.

This shift means traditional SEO tactics alone are no longer enough. Today’s search engines evaluate authority, reputation, content quality, user experience, reviews, and trust signals to determine which businesses deserve visibility.

The challenge for business owners is simple: AI is narrowing the field. Instead of showing customers dozens of options, it may recommend only a few.

If your business isn’t positioned correctly online, you risk becoming invisible while competitors capture the leads.

That’s why forward-thinking companies are investing in AIpowered marketing strategies that combine SEO, reputation

management, content marketing, website optimization, and paid advertising.

Sustainably Sourced Staples for Family Favorites

Living sustainably might include habits like recycling or composting, but you can go above and beyond by using food ingredients that are environmentally friendly.

As a pioneer in humane and sustainable meat, NIMAN RANCH recently launched a Regenerative Organic Certified beef program sourced entirely from U.S. family ranches covering 105,000 acres today and with a roadmap to reach 250,000 acres by 2028.

Simply put, “regenerative” is a soil-first approach to farming that restores the earth rather than depleting it. This program bridges the gap between environmental stewardship and steakhouse-quality flavor so you can enjoy meals like a Seared Strip Loin with Linguini or Vietnamese Caramelized Beef Bowls.

The program sets the standard for a sustainable future in several ways:

Supporting American Ranchers: 100% U.S. grass-fed and finished, it provides a vital premium market for domestic family ranchers when over 95% of organic beef is currently imported.

Steakhouse Quality Meets the Gold Standard: By pairing elite angus genetics with Regenerative Organic Certified’s rigorous standards, the program delivers USDA-graded Choice and Prime marbling – a flavor and tenderness rarely found in the organic market.

Healing the Land: Through “high-frequency rotational grazing,” Niman Ranch cattle are moved across pastures in a way that restores soil health and promotes biodiversity.

6 Savvy Ways to Ensure Grilling Success This Summer

There’s just something timeless about a summer cookout with friends, family or neighbors. Whether it’s the sound of burgers sizzling on the grill or the smell of your favorite seasonal sides, the event invokes nostalgia and camaraderie.

While the spotlight may land on the burgers and barbecued fare, seasoned grill masters know the supporting cast matters, too. Makers of soft, delicious hamburger and hot dog buns fit to be the foundation of summer gatherings for more than 100 years, the bun experts at Wonder suggest a few ways to ensure your entertaining ventures are successful throughout the season.

DO WHAT YOU CAN AHEAD OF TIME

Stick to a mix of easy favorites and make-ahead sides to keep prep manageable while offering something for everyone to enjoy. When possible, prep ahead of time so you can keep your focus on the fun and your attention on the hot grill. Chop vegetables, wash lettuce for burgers, make sure you have picked out the perfect buns, form and season beef patties and mix marinades the day before the big bash to avoid last-minute rushes around the kitchen.

PREP THE GRILL

Patience is key when it comes to grilling, as a properly heated grill is the foundation for good cooking. Give gas grills enough time to come to temperature, around 10-15 minutes, and allow charcoal to ash over completely. When grilling different types of food, it’s especially helpful to set up cooking zones – direct and indirect – so you can cook meat, veggies and buns differently or move finished food to one side, as needed.

Additionally, to help prevent sticking, lightly oil the clean grill grates before cooking. Using tongs and a paper towel dipped in oil is often more effective than coating foods with oil.

USE A MEAT THERMOMETER

You may be a seasoned grill master, but guesswork can lead to mistakes, especially when cooking for a crowd. Avoid overcooked (or worse, undercooked) chicken and burgers by using an instant-read thermometer to help ensure meat is cooked safely while retaining its juicy flavor.

GRILL BUNS CORRECTLY

Burgers and hot dogs are classics for a reason, but avoiding soggy buns and mid-bite fallout requires the right bun for the job. Striking the perfect balance of pillowy softness with the structure to hold their shape through every loaded topping, condiment and bite is key when choosing the right bun for the job. More than just a vehicle for grilled favorites, Wonder

Classic Hamburger and Hot Dog Buns are a familiar taste that makes cookouts delicious and have held it together, literally and figuratively, for more than a century. In continuing its longstanding partnership with the USO through the annual Deploy the Joy campaign, you can keep an eye out through Sept. 12 for special packaging on select products with scannable QR codes for a chance to win a $10,000 Birthday Bash.

FOR GREAT GRILLED BUNS, FOLLOW A FEW EASY STEPS:

1. Brush cut sides of buns with softened butter, mayo or both to help the bun brown evenly.

2. Lightly salt the buttered side before grilling.

3. During the last 2 minutes of cooking burgers or dogs, place buns cut-side down over medium-low heat for 30-60 seconds. Look for a light golden toast, crisp enough to hold up.

LET FOOD REST BEFORE SERVING

After grilling, give meat a few minutes to rest before serving or slicing. This allows juices to redistribute throughout the food for better texture and flavor.

LAYER BURGERS, CONDIMENTS AND TOPPINGS

After toasting buns, add a thin layer of sauce to coat the bun then lettuce that’s been patted dry to remove moisture. Add cheese to the opposite bun and be sure to place the burger and other toppings in the center to keep moisture away from the bread, preventing sogginess. Follow this simple order for sturdy buns:

• Toasted top bun

• Condiment or sauce

• Cheese

• Burger

• Tomato and onion

• Lettuce

• Condiment or sauce

• Toasted bottom bun

GEORGIA: THE CRADLE OF WINE

HISTORY, INDIGENOUS VARIETALS, AND TOP PRODUCERS

DESPITE ALWAYS BEING IN SEARCH OF NEW WINES AND NEW WINE REGIONS, IN THIS ARTICLE, I FEATURE A REGION THAT IS NOT NEW. IN FACT, IT IS WHERE THE VERY FIRST WINE WAS MADE!

WHEN DISCUSSING THE WORLD'S GREAT WINE-PRODUCING NATIONS, MOST CONSUMERS IMMEDIATELY THINK OF FRANCE, ITALY, SPAIN, OR THE UNITED STATES. WHAT SO MANY OF US DON’T KNOW IS THAT WINE HISTORIANS AND ARCHAEOLOGISTS POINT TO THE SMALL NATION OF GEORGIA AS THE TRUE BIRTHPLACE OF WINE. LOCATED AT THE CROSSROADS OF EUROPE AND ASIA, GEORGIA POSSESSES AN UNINTERRUPTED WINEMAKING TRADITION DATING BACK MORE THAN 8,000 YEARS, MAKING IT ONE OF THE OLDEST WINE-PRODUCING REGIONS ON EARTH.

HISTORY

Archaeological discoveries of grape residue and ancient clay vessels known as qvevri have provided compelling evidence that organized winemaking was taking place in Georgia as early as 6,000 BCE. Wine is deeply embedded in Georgian culture, religion, and national identity. Throughout centuries of invasions, political upheaval, and Soviet control, Georgians continued to cultivate vineyards and preserve their ancestral winemaking traditions. During the Soviet era, production shifted toward high-volume wines intended for mass consumption, but since the country's independence, a remarkable renaissance has taken place. Small family wineries and quality-focused producers have revived indigenous grape varieties and traditional qvevri winemaking, helping Georgian wines gain international recognition.

QVEVRI METHOD

At the heart of Georgian winemaking is the qvevri, a large eggshaped clay vessel buried underground.

Key Characteristics

• Vessel Type: Large egg-shaped clay amphora buried underground

• Primary Uses: Fermentation, aging, and storage

• Benefits: Stable underground temperatures support natural wine development

• Winemaking Impact: Enables extended skin contact and distinctive texture

In 2013, UNESCO recognized the ancient Georgian qvevri winemaking method as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Today, while many Georgian wineries also utilize modern stainless steel and oak aging techniques, qvevri wines remain the country's most distinctive contribution to the wine world.

Ayurvedic Hair Oiling

A TIMELESS RITUAL FOR MODERN BEAUTY

Rooted in India’s ancient Ayurvedic tradition and practiced for more than 5,000 years, hair oiling is a revered beauty ritual that blends wellness with luxury. Traditionally, warm herbal oils are massaged into the scalp and worked through the lengths of the hair using slow, deliberate movements designed to stimulate circulation and encourage relaxation. Formulations often feature nutrient-rich ingredients such as coconut oil, sesame oil, bhringraj, amla, brahmi, and hibiscus, each selected for its restorative properties. The ritual typically involves leaving the oil on for several hours or overnight before cleansing, allowing the botanicals to deeply nourish both scalp and strands. Beyond its sensory appeal, Ayurvedic hair oiling is celebrated for helping to strengthen hair, enhance shine, reduce dryness, support scalp health, and minimize breakage. Today, this centuries-old practice has become a sought-after selfcare indulgence, embraced by luxury beauty enthusiasts worldwide.
