Simon Simoudis - Panthers vs Raiders: That Mudgee Miracle

The rivalry between the Penrith Panthers and Canberra Raiders has been tilted in the Panthers’ favour since they began playing in the National Rugby League (NRL). The sports pundits were placing their bets on the Penrith Panthers, and it was not very surprising The Panthers were the defending champions and had won the title four times.

I, Simon Simoudis, am a fan of rugby, but not a great specialist in the game, and I usually hate to take sides unless my home team is playing I had planned to enjoy every moment of the game, irrespective of which team wins. I will be watching the finals from inside the stadium, but I watched today's match from the comforts of my home.

But I, Simon Simoudis, must admit I envy every person who has been at the Glen Willow Oval stadium on Friday, August 22, 2025 This match went to the wire. What a roller coaster it had been. When the match started, the crowd got a taste of the superiority of the defending champions They had 60% possession of the ball.

But till the full time the teams were locked up at 16-16, and the match’s outcome was decided in the extra time. And the final score defied what most had predicted; the Raiders won 20-16.

The final moments left me bonkers Ethan Strange, Jed Stuart, and Kaeo Weekes were involved in pulling off an amazing four-pointer. It was a truly mind-blowing golden point, and Fox News aptly described it as the “craziest golden point finish ever.” Former great Cooper Cronk described it as “the most remarkable finish to a golden point game” he'd ever seen If you missed watching

this match live, you really missed something special. And the least you can do to make up for that is to watch the replay

This win makes Canberra a contender for the title, and if they do, it will be their first in the last 35 years. This win will be regarded as Canberra’s special one. But for the rest of their matches, they will be missing one of their key players, Xavier Savage, who suffered a nasty shoulder injury.

Penrith’s chances of making it to the final four look shaky I, Simon Simoudis, feel sorry for the fans of the Panthers. The Panthers did nothing wrong to lose this match, but a few magical moments stole it from them

I, Simon Simoudis, am excited about being at Accor Stadium, Sydney, on Sunday, 5 October. Hoping to witness magical moments the way I did today.
