Welcome to the second edition of Vivre! We’re excited to share another collection of stories, perspectives, and moments from across the Silverstone Living family of communities. For those new to Vivre!, the name comes from the French word “to live.” It reflects the spirit behind this publication and the way we believe life should be lived: with purpose, connection, curiosity, and plenty to look forward to. There is a real sense of momentum across Silverstone Living. More people are discovering our communities and programs, and we’re seeing record interest in our Silver Reserve Waitlist Program, with more future residents choosing to secure their place in our communities for the years ahead. That spirit of looking ahead runs throughout this issue. Inside, you’ll find stories, perspectives, and reflections that highlight the people and experiences that make Silverstone Living unique. Together, they offer a glimpse into where we’ve been, where we are today, and what lies ahead. A NEW NAME, THE SAME COMMITMENT TO LIVING WELL AT HOME For more than 15 years, At Home By Hunt has been helping older adults across New Hampshire plan for the future while making the most of life at home today. Now, the program is beginning a new chapter with a new name: At Home By Silverstone Living. While the name is changing, what matters most is not. Members continue to have access to the same plans, benefits, services, and dedicated team that have made At Home a trusted resource since its founding in 2011. The name change reflects the program’s connection to the larger Silverstone Living family and the organization’s continued growth throughout New Hampshire. As Silverstone Living expands its mission of supporting older adults at every stage of life, At Home remains an important part of that story, offering an innovative choice for those who want to remain in the home they love. At Home is a Continuing Care at Home program designed to provide confidence and peace of mind for the future. Members join while they are independent, with a plan in place for the care and support they may need down the road. Through personalized care coordination, advocacy, planning, and financial protection for future longterm care needs, the program helps members navigate life’s changes while maintaining the independence they value today.

A NEW NAME, THE SAME COMMITMENT TO LIVING WELL AT HOME “Our mission has never been defined by a name. It’s defined by the people we serve and our commitment to helping them live with confidence, joy, and independence,” says Brian Newman, CEO of Silverstone Living. “This change allows us to bring that mission to more individuals and families while more closely aligning At Home with the Silverstone Living family.” For Kelley Kennedy, Executive Director of At Home, the new name represents both where the program has been and where it is going. “This new name reflects who we are today while honoring the relationships and trust we’ve built over the past 15 years,” Kelley says. For current members, the transition is simple. The only thing changing is the name. The same people, personalized support, and commitment to exceptional service remain at the heart of the program. As At Home By Silverstone Living looks toward the future, its goal remains the same: helping older adults throughout New Hampshire live confidently, independently, and on their own terms, wherever they call home. 7 | SILVERSTONELIVING.ORG

GROWING INTO THE FUTURE: READY FOR WHAT’S NEXT BY BRIAN NEWMAN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER There is something about New Hampshire that inspires people to put down roots. For generations, people have chosen the Granite State for its natural beauty, vibrant communities, and exceptional quality of life. They come for the mountains and the coastline, the small-town charm and the cultural opportunities. They stay because they find something increasingly rare: a sense of belonging. Today, more and more people are choosing New Hampshire for another reason. They are choosing it as the place where they want to spend their retirement years. That choice reflects a larger demographic story unfolding across the country. America's population is aging at a historic pace. By 2035, adults age 65 and older are expected to make up more than one in five Americans, and nearly one-third of U.S. households will be headed by someone over 65. Longer life expectancy, advances in healthcare, and healthier lifestyles are changing what retirement looks like and creating new opportunities for how we think about aging. Here in New Hampshire, those trends are particularly significant.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 23% of New Hampshire residents are age 65 or older, making it one of the oldest states in the nation. Housing experts also point to New Hampshire as a destination for retirees, with older adults continuing to play a major role in the state's population growth. The implications are clear. Demand for senior living, age-friendly housing, and supportive services will continue to grow in the years ahead. But this shift is about more than numbers. It is about how and where people want to live. As people look ahead to the next chapter of life, many begin to think differently about what they want their future to look like. Some are attracted to the convenience and community of a retirement living environment, while others prefer to remain in the homes they know and love. Regardless of the setting, today's older adults are looking for flexible options that support independence, encourage engagement, and provide confidence for whatever the future may bring.

At the same time, housing options that allow people to simplify their lives while remaining connected to the communities they love remain limited throughout much of the state. Yet New Hampshire is uniquely positioned to meet this challenge. New Hampshire's appeal also extends to the financial advantages of retirement. With no general sales tax, no state income tax, no state estate tax, and no state tax on capital gains, retirees may be able to keep more of what they have earned and saved. Pension income is also not subject to state income tax. Combined with the state's exceptional quality of life, these advantages make New Hampshire an increasingly attractive place to consider for retirement. The same qualities that attract younger families, professionals, and visitors also appeal to retirees. Beautiful natural surroundings, access to healthcare, strong community networks, lifelong learning opportunities, and a rich recreational lifestyle all contribute to the state's appeal.

GROWING INTO THE FUTURE: READY FOR WHAT’S NEXT Research from the University of New Hampshire's Carsey School consistently shows that people choose to move to and remain in New Hampshire for a combination of reasons: family connections, quality of life, employment opportunities, the natural environment, and a strong sense of community. While economic factors may play a role, it is the overall experience of living here that keeps people invested in the state. That perspective is reshaping expectations around retirement living. Today's retirement communities are about far more than housing. They are designed to support active, engaged lifestyles. Residents are seeking opportunities for wellness, continued learning, meaningful relationships, volunteerism, creativity, and purpose. They want the freedom to enjoy life today while having confidence that support and services will be available if their needs change tomorrow. Just as importantly, today's older adults want choice. For some, that means moving to a community that offers maintenance-free living, social engagement, and access to future care. For others, it means remaining in their homes for as long as possible while receiving support that helps them maintain independence. Innovative programs such as At Home By Silverstone Living are helping to expand those options. Downtown Nashua offers the kind of spontaneity that makes a community feel alive. It is no surprise that Nashua has received national recognition as a desirable place to live. Livability has highlighted the city among its Best Places to Live, noting its vibrant downtown, parks, recreation, and proximity to Boston. The city has also been recognized for its concentration of cultural amenities, entertainment venues, restaurants and cafés. More recently, a study highlighted by the New York Post named Nashua the best city to move to in the United States based on factors including job opportunities, safety and cost of living. A JOURNEY OF GROWTH AND SERVICE CELEBRATING 25 YEARS WITH SILVERSTONE LIVING BY LISA VALCOURT, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Reaching 25 years with Silverstone Living is both humbling and rewarding. When I first joined the organization, I could not have imagined the opportunities, growth, and relationships that would shape my career and my life over the next quarter-century. During that time, I have witnessed tremendous growth and transformation, both within the organization and throughout the senior living industry. From advancements in technology and innovative approaches to resident care to the expansion of services and the addition of new communities, it has been amazing to see how Silverstone Living has evolved while remaining faithful to its mission and values. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and Nutrition, I began my career as a Corporate District Manager for the Northeast Division of Hospitality Services. In that role, I was responsible for kitchen design projects and operational support, and I served on the opening team for 11 new senior living communities that launched within an 18-month period. Those experiences provided a strong foundation in leadership, operations, and customer service while also introducing me to the rewarding field of senior living. In 2001, while driving through Nashua, I noticed a sign announcing the future opening of a Life Plan Community, The Huntington at Nashua, which was scheduled to open in 2004. Intrigued, I researched the organization and was introduced to Hunt Community. From the moment I stepped onto the campus, I felt an immediate sense of belonging. It felt like home. Soon afterward, I joined Hunt Community as Director of Dining Services. This position was rewarding from the very beginning and presented many opportunities to grow professionally while contributing to the continued development of the organization. A JOURNEY OF GROWTH AND SERVICE When The Huntington was being developed, I was approached about overseeing the culinary programs at both Hunt Community and The Huntington. What began as an exciting career opportunity quickly became something much more meaningful. I found an organization whose mission aligned with my own values and whose commitment to residents and employee growth was evident in every aspect of its culture. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to learn from exceptional mentors who have played a significant role in shaping my professional growth and leadership journey. My goal has always been to work for an organization that genuinely cares about both its residents and its employees, placing people at the heart of every decision. That dedication to residents, employees, and the community is one of the many reasons I am proud to be celebrating 25 years with Silverstone Living. Personally, I have always focused on maintaining high standards, delivering outstanding customer service, and building strong, cohesive teams. My guiding principle has never changed: work hard, stay humble, and always be kind. 23 | SILVERSTONELIVING.ORG
In 2020, I was honored to be named Executive Director of The Huntington at Nashua. It marked another exciting chapter in a career filled with opportunities for learning, leadership, and service. The trust, encouragement, and support I have received from Silverstone Living have been truly inspiring, and I am grateful for the confidence that has been placed in me. Looking back on the past 25 years, I am proud of how far Silverstone Living has come and excited about what lies ahead. While much has changed over the years, our commitment to enhancing the lives of older adults remains stronger than ever. I am filled with appreciation for the residents, team members, mentors, and friends who have been part of this journey. Their support, wisdom, and dedication have enriched my career in countless ways. I look forward to continuing to serve our residents, support our teams, and make a meaningful difference in the years to come. Just as others have invested in me, it is important for me to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to the next generation of leaders.

PLANNING FOR TOMORROW, LIVING FULLY TODAY BY AL RETTER, AT HOME BY SILVERSTONE LIVING MEMBER Kris and I have been members of At Home By Silverstone Living for a little over 10 years. We also have a long history with Silverstone Living. I served on The Hunt Community Board of Trustees for eight years in the 1990s, followed by a role as a Founding Trustee of The Huntington at Nashua in the 2000s. I was originally invited to join the board by a personal friend with a financial background who felt I could contribute in those areas. At the time, my father had recently passed away, and I thought my mother might need some additional support now that she was living alone in the family home without family nearby. I decided serving on the board would be a good opportunity to learn more about the options available. My friend retired from the board the following year but stayed in touch and eventually moved to The Huntington at Nashua. My mother moved into a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC, in Pennsylvania, where many of her neighbors also lived. She participated in many of the available activities and thrived there until the age of 96. Kris often says that my mother was a role model for how to embrace life in a retirement setting. Between my mother's experience and my friend's move to The Huntington, we knew that this type of community was something that interested us. Then we heard about At Home.

Our introduction to the program came through an invitation in the mail to attend an informational seminar in 2015. At the time, I was becoming increasingly unhappy with our longterm care insurance plan after several significant premium increases. We have always been planners when it comes to our long-term future. Kris had retired from her career as a school psychologist several years earlier, and I was in the process of retiring from my career as a financial executive, so we were carefully considering all of our options. As I mentioned, we were both very familiar with Hunt Community, so we immediately signed up for the seminar to learn more about this “At Home” program. 27 | SILVERSTONELIVING.ORG
During my years serving on the board, Kris had attended many social functions at Hunt Community. She often said that she had never met an employee she did not like. She was equally impressed by the residents, many of whom had accomplished and interesting backgrounds, with no arrogance attached at all. We were eager to see if At Home shared those same standards. After an absence of seven years, we attended the seminar wondering who we might meet. We were greeted at the door by Christine Hallock, the longtime CEO of Hunt Community and Silverstone Living, who was now a member of At Home. Christine had been instrumental in forming the program in 2011 because she wanted to be part of it herself!
The seminar was thorough, and we quickly realized that the At Home program could meet our future needs. We had been planning to eventually spend more time at our second home in the Sunapee region, so the fact that the program serves members throughout New Hampshire was a significant benefit. Perhaps the most important aspect of the program for us is its Life Care structure, which it shares with Life Plan Communities. We believe this will be a significant financial benefit for us in the long term. We also have complete confidence in the long-term stability of Silverstone Living. After thoroughly reviewing the information provided and doing our own financial analysis, we continued with the application process. Although we were “only” 67 at the time, the planners in us wanted to get that part of our lives under control. The timing turned out to be especially important. A little over a year later, Kris, an avid equestrian, had a serious accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury and a month-long hospital and rehabilitation stay. We did not require assistance from the At Home program at that time, but we were still visited several times by the At Home team, who offered support and followed up to make sure we had what we needed. Kris has recovered well from her injuries, but if we had not joined the program when we did, it is possible she may no longer have been medically qualified due to her injury. That experience reinforced for us why it is important to consider a program like this while you are independent and able to plan for your future on your own terms. We have now been members of the At Home program for more than 10 years and have been thoroughly pleased with every aspect of our experience. Our Care Coordinator for much of our time in the program has been Diane, who has become a friend. 29 | SILVERSTONELIVING.ORG
We see and speak with her frequently. She calls at least monthly and visits us annually. Diane also organizes periodic group outings, including hikes and walks with fellow members, which we often enjoy joining. We are outdoor-loving people and appreciate the encouragement to stay healthy while connecting socially with others. We also participate in many other At Home and community-based activities and educational offerings. I was later asked to rejoin the Hunt Community Board of Trustees as a representative of the At Home program, and I have become even more impressed by the full range of programs offered by Silverstone Living.
The At Home program is discussed at Hunt Community board meetings, as well as meetings involving the broader Silverstone Living organization. The program has strong support, both now and for the future. Kris and I are both strong advocates of the Life Plan Community philosophy, whether that care is provided at home or within a community setting, as well as the long-term future of Silverstone Living. We are also encouraged to see fellow members who have participated in the continuum of care and later transitioned to become full-time residents of Hunt Community and The Huntington at Nashua. For now, we still have three horses and two German Shepherds at our country home in Hollis, and our goal is to remain in our current home for as long as possible.
At the same time, we know how important it is to be prepared if our needs change. One of the greatest sources of peace of mind for us is knowing that we are part of Silverstone Living and have options as we grow older. We are relieved to have our long-term care plan in place, and we hope that the large group of Baby Boomers moving into retirement will also take the time to consider their own long-term care options. For us, planning ahead has given us something invaluable: the confidence to continue enjoying life today, while knowing we have a plan for whatever tomorrow may bring.

FOR A LASTING LEGACY Webster at Rye recently welcomed residents, families, staff, community partners and friends for a Ribbon Cutting and Community Celebration marking both an important milestone and an exciting step forward for the community. The occasion provided an opportunity to tour Webster at Rye’s beautifully renovated spaces while commemorating 40 years of serving older adults and families throughout the Seacoast. Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, guided tours and the opportunity to connect with residents, family members, professionals, staff and community partners. The renovations represent more than an updated look. We are grateful for the opportunity to invest in our community and continue meeting the evolving needs of both current and future residents. Thoughtfully designed, welcoming spaces play an important role in creating an environment where residents can feel comfortable, supported and at home. These improvements reflect our continued commitment to providing an exceptional living experience while building upon the strong foundation established over the past four decades. That investment is especially meaningful as the need for high-quality senior living and healthcare services continues to grow throughout the Seacoast Region and across New Hampshire. Webster at Rye provides a continuum of support through Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Rehabilitation and Nursing Care. As the population ages and more older adults and their families seek supportive environments, the need for communities that can provide compassionate care and meaningful support will only continue to evolve. For 40 years, Webster at Rye has been part of the fabric of the Seacoast. Throughout that time, the community has provided a welcoming place for residents while supporting individuals and families through the aging journey. The recent renovations honor that legacy while also reflecting a thoughtful approach to the future and the changing needs of those we serve. As Webster at Rye enters its next chapter, we are proud of how far the community has come and excited about what lies ahead. OUR JOURNEY TO
THE HUNTINGTON AT NASHUA BY JILL PORTER, RESIDENT My name is Jill Porter, and I’ve lived at The Huntington since February 2024. My husband, Ken, and I moved to Manchester, NH, from Long Island, NY, in October 2004. Coincidentally, that is just about the time The Huntington at Nashua opened its doors. We’ve been married for 62 years. Our careers were in the insurance industry, mine in claims and cost management, and Ken’s in marketing. Our lifestyle included traveling and enjoying family, friends, and hobbies. Along the way, Ken was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease affecting his mobility. That ended the traveling piece of our retirement. With help at home over the years, we managed, but in 2023 we realized this was changing. We turned to our financial planner for guidance and began looking at options. A Continuing Care Retirement Community made the most sense to us. Location was important, as we did not want to be any farther away from our sons and their families, who live in Rhode Island. I preferred the countryside over a city setting. I wanted a friendly, active community where I could make friends and hopefully get back to playing bridge. I approached downsizing room by room as we put a deposit down at a different CCRC. There was a tremendous amount of work ahead of us. We had a basement with a model railroad and shop area, a first-floor living area, and a three-car garage. With only one car now, we could use part of the garage as a staging area. Fortunately, we knew the owner of an auction house. He provided boxes and picked everything up. In addition, friends offered to deliver packed boxes that were being donated to a local charity. As we were going through the moving process with a different CCRC, we realized it was not the right fit for us. Our realtor then strongly recommended we consider Hunt Community and The Huntington at Nashua. She had family members who had lived at Hunt Community and pointed out that Nashua was closer to our family in Rhode Island. I called and made an appointment for a tour and to look at an available apartment.

OUR JOURNEY TO THE HUNTINGTON AT NASHUA Turning onto Kent Lane for my visit, I was impressed by the landscape and the cottages along the approach to the main entrance. Upon entering the lobby, I was blown away to see my name welcoming me. Residents gathering for coffee introduced themselves as I waited for our Life Plan Advisor, Michelle, to arrive. This place already felt like home. I was eager to tour The Huntington and see the apartment. I have not forgotten all that I gave up as a homeowner. It was definitely worth it, and the timing was right. No more utility bills or repair expenses. No more meal planning, shopping, or cooking, along with a huge drop in the cost of groceries. Managing home services and dealing with appliance, heating, and air conditioning companies all disappeared. One difference in apartment living is the walk from the apartment to the carport. Another is getting purchases to your apartment. I drop off my shopping bags in the lobby before parking my car. I plan around the weather. So far, no glitches. Oh, I must remember my car keys. It’s a long trip back to the apartment and time-consuming. 35 | SILVERSTONELIVING.ORG
Today, Ken is happily settled in Kent Village which is The Huntington’s Assisted Living and Nursing Care neighborhood. He is getting great care, and I’m able to visit with him whenever I choose. We eat together in the formal dining room on Sundays and entertain family and friends for meals when they visit. I join different groups of residents in the dining room or the Bistro for daily meals and enjoy the continental breakfast offerings. Everything I need is under one roof. I’m very comfortable and feel very safe living here. I remain connected with friends and my Manchester church community. I have gone away for vacations and visits with family. I have made many friends here. I swim, play bridge, and take yoga classes. I also enjoy making cards for residents for birthdays and other occasions.
I volunteer in Lucille’s Store, which is community-run. I’m a member of the Pool Committee, the Marketing Committee, and a resident tour guide. I enjoy having more personal freedom, which now allows me to go on resident trips. My favorite trip is to the Boston Symphony rehearsals. I’ve already purchased my tickets for the 2026–2027 season. My advice for anyone considering a move like this is to start the process. If you decide on a CCRC, put down your deposit. Life changes from day to day. Most importantly, create a plan and begin to get rid of what will not be needed in your new life. It will all work out. I hope you choose The Huntington at Nashua.
