Welcome to the fourth edition of SiGMA Africa, held once more at the GrandWest in Cape Town. Since the inaugural debut of our event for the African markets in 2023, the show has continued to enjoy year on year growth. From Kenya to South Africa, we’ve been met with an industry keen to do more in what has become one of the most promising emerging regions for the iGaming and land-based sectors.
In tandem with this, there is a growing recognition of the need for sustainable, well-regulated markets that can deliver on compliance and transparency. Which is why, as part of our commitment towards responsible growth, SiGMA Africa makes good on its promise to provide a platform for structured, policy-driven engagement and cross-border dialogue between operators and regulators. This year we’re pleased to be welcoming over fifteen gaming regulatory authorities from across Southern, Eastern and Western Africa. You can meet many of them on the conference stage, where they pick up on topics such as player-first policies and safe play, as well as effective ways to bridge the compliance gap across the continent’s diversity of legal frameworks, strategies, and licensing approaches.
South Africa is also a country rich in experiences. As you move through the week with SiGMA, I invite you to make the most of what’s on offer. As always we’re top of our game when it comes to networking. From ice breakers that take you through Cape Town’s most beautiful wine valleys and next-level play across verdant golf courses to elegant award ceremonies, charitable auctions and a closing night party, our events this year check all the boxes when it comes to good times that deliver on the things that matter: connecting you to the people you actually want to meet.

SiGMA Africa –Where Regulators Connect
SiGMA Africa 2026 will convene over fifteen gaming regulatory authorities from across Southern, Eastern and Western Africa, reinforcing the summit’s position as one of the continent’s most influential Business-to-Government (B2G) platforms within the gaming sector.
With confirmed participation from national and provincial regulators across Southern Africa, alongside authorities from East and West Africa, the event reflects a growing recognition of SiGMA’s role in facilitating structured, policydriven engagement. The strong regulatory presence demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening compliance frameworks, encouraging cross-border dialogue and advancing sustainable, well-regulated markets.
Through its dedicated B2G Africa initiative, SiGMA actively brings regulators and licenced operators into direct and constructive engagement. The summit provides a curated environment for high-level roundtables, private regulatory meetings and strategic discussions designed to move jurisdictions forward in a compliant and transparent manner.
More than a commercial gathering, SiGMA Africa functions as a governance-driven platform. Operators gain clarity on regulatory expectations and market entry pathways, while authorities engage directly with industry stakeholders to address enforcement challenges, innovation and responsible growth. This model supports the formalisation and strengthening of regulated jurisdictions across the continent.
Responsible Gambling and foundation bodies from across Africa will also participate, ensuring that regulatory advancement remains aligned with player protection, accountability and longterm market sustainability.

A Strong Defence
International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA)
CEO Khalid Ali speaks to SiGMA’s Duncan Barry on the global integrity body which monitors over 1.5 million sporting events worldwide, works with FIFA, UEFA and law enforcement, and explains why regulated betting is one of sport’s strongest defences against match-fixing.
“IBIA’s core role is to safeguard sporting events, our members and regulated betting markets by detecting, disrupting and preventing match-fixing that threatens sporting integrity,” IBIA CEO Khalid Ali said.
Speaking to SiGMA, Ali said that IBIA is built on a strong foundation of collaboration. “Our monitoring network harnesses the collective intelligence of many of the world’s largest regulated betting operators, allowing us to monitor over 1.5 million sporting events across more than 80 sports, generating over $300 billion in bets each year.”
IBIA - the global voice of the regulated sports betting industry - works to protect the integrity of betting markets and sporting competitions worldwide.
IBIA is a non-profit association funded by operators committed to protecting sport, consumers and markets from betting-related corruption. Established over 20 years ago by a small group of responsible operators, IBIA today represents more than 90 regulated operators with over 200 brands active across six continents.
At the heart of IBIA’s work is its Global Monitoring & Alert Platform (Global MAP), a bespoke system that identifies and shares alerts on suspicious betting activity across regulated markets. The platform enables members to detect and report irregular betting patterns and to share intelligence with sports bodies, regulators and law enforcement agencies.
Collaboration at the core
IBIA works closely with leading sports bodies including FIFA, UEFA, the IOC and the International Tennis Integrity Agency, as well as gambling regulators and law enforcement agencies. These cooperation agreements allow for two-way data sharing and coordinated investigations. “This collaborative ecosystem is the foundation of effective sports integrity,” Ali said.
IBIA and its members monitor both retail and online betting markets, acting as an early warning system by detecting suspicious betting patterns that may indicate corruption.
Ali said modern data-sharing and monitoring systems are extremely effective and now central to sports integrity frameworks. “IBIA’s Global Map analyses customer accountlevel betting data across international markets, allowing us to detect patterns that would not be visible at a singleoperator or national level,” he noted.
Between 2021 and 2025, IBIA and its members reported nearly 1,250 alerts to sports and regulatory authorities, many of which led to investigations and sanctions against teams, players and officials worldwide.
In 2025 alone, 54 matches were proven to be corrupted and 24 athletes, teams or officials were sanctioned either as a result of IBIA’s data or intelligence.
Addressing the relationship between match-fixing and online betting, Ali stressed that match-fixing is a longstanding issue in sport and not caused by betting itself. “What online betting has done is create traceable data. In regulated markets, every bet leaves a digital footprint, making it far harder for criminals to operate undetected,” he said.
IBIA has evolved from a Europefocused initiative into a truly global integrity organisation. This evolution is reflected in its Mission 2030 strategy.
Risk areas and Africa’s growth
Integrity risks are highest where sports governance is weak and betting activity is concentrated in poorly regulated or unregulated markets. From a sporting perspective, football and tennis generate the highest number of alerts due to the volume of matches and betting interest.
Africa’s online betting market
Ali said that Africa’s betting market is expanding rapidly.
According to H2 Gambling Capital, Africa’s online betting market is projected to grow from US$3.5 billion in 2021 to US$21.8 billion by 2030. As betting activity moves into regulated markets, it becomes visible, creating conditions for effective safeguards. Between 2021 and 2025, IBIA reported a total of 117 suspicious betting alerts linked to African sporting events only: 67 Football games and 42 tennis games.
“IBIA’s MOU with the Africa iGaming Alliance aims to strengthen integrity frameworks and embed safeguards from the outset,” Ali said.
Looking ahead, Ali said IBIA’s longterm vision is to make integrity monitoring a requirement for every regulated betting company.
Suspicious Alerts Reported
From 2021 to 2025, IBIA reported 117 suspicious betting alerts across African sporting events, primarily involving football (67) and tennis (42).
Online Betting GGR (US$bn)
Africa’s total betting gross gambling revenue (GGR) is projected to grow from US$3.5bn in 2021 to US$19.4bn by 2030. The majority of this growth will be online betting, which is predicted to reach US$16.4bn by 2030, with US$13bn (or 79%) placed onshore. Land-based betting GGR is predicted to grow from US$1.4bn in 2021 to US$3bn by 2030.

Come for SiGMA stay for Cape Town
In town for SiGMA’s South African show? Don’t miss the opportunity to explore Cape Town. Nestled beneath Table Mountain, the peninsula offers an abundance of natural beauty at every angle. There’s no better view, though, than from the mountain itself. Climb it if you’re brave, but for everyone else, the cable car is a treat that offers tantalising snapshots of the city. While beautiful at any time, views are at their best at sunset. Take the last trip up and enjoy sweeping city panoramas softened by the burnt rosy glow of sundown.
The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden also offers a sensory reset after the bustle of the summit. The hillside garden and nature reserve make for a pleasant afternoon, with gentle walking trails, including the tree canopy walkway, rare fauna, and spectacular views that stretch for miles. Pack a picnic or enjoy lunch at the onsite restaurant.
If you fancy a change of view, head to the postcard-perfect harbour and take a boat out to Robben Island, the notorious prison which once held the beloved Nelson Mandela. Now a living museum, it’s well worth the trip.
Alternatively, Boulders Beach offers a chance to see South Africa’s thriving colony of penguins. Raised boardwalks offer the perfect viewpoint to watch this protected species go about their day as they navigate the soft white sandy dunes – one of the only places in the world that lets you get up close with African penguins. Although less of a crowd-pleaser, the seals at Seal Island are a sight to behold and can be viewed by boat; trips leave the harbour regularly.
Delegates break the ice at a SiGMA Africa 2024 networking activity on Boulders Beach – a hotspot for the critically endangered African penguins, endemic to the South African coast.
Naturally, you’ll want a been there, done that photo stop – and the Cape of Good Hope is just such a place. As the most south-western point of the African continent, it’s an iconic point on any travel map.
Round off your day with more nature and excellent wine. If there’s anywhere that guarantees this, it’s South Africa. A tour is the ideal way to enjoy the best of wine country –with regions like Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek offering an incredible experience. Charming trams transport you through idyllic vineyards, allowing for stops to enjoy wine tasting and decadent food platters.
Whether you have just a few hours or a couple of days, make them count.

The SiGMA Africa Auction
Brought to you by
A magnet for the right conversations, the Awards deliver premier opportunities for our clients to connect to meaningful, impact-driven projects. An art auction – held to support the SiGMA Foundation’s charitable projects, including initiatives to provide places like Ethiopia and Uganda with crucial healthcare and education opportunities, makes the art of giving easy. With works of art contributed by internationally-recognised artists, luxury items, and coveted experiences, there’s never a dull moment at the auction table. Led by the charismatic Rick Goddard, the auction is an exciting and unforgettable addition to the SiGMA Africa event.
Visit our website to find out which projects the Foundation is supporting this year and how you can help.
If you’re a platinum ticket holder then you’re in for a treat. Make sure you don’t miss out on the iGathering dinners taking place at the GrandWest during SiGMA Africa. Our dinners are always popular, so make sure to RSVP to your email invitation to secure your seat at the table.
