HIGH HEELS AND HOLY FIRE:

Remembering Romona Seymour-Farquharson...

THE EARLY YEARS: An Exumian Force of Nature

Romona Anastacia Farquharson-Seymour didn’t just enter the world; she announced herself on a cool morning, the 30th of January, 1977, to Judy Toote and the late Robert Farquharson. Her formative years were spent under the sharp, watchful gaze of her maternal grandmother, Eula Nixon, in the sun-drenched, turquoise-wrapped paradise of Little Farmer’s Cay, Exuma. Even as a babe, Romona possessed a certain “je ne sais quoi,” a spark that was officially blessed when she was christened at St. Mary’s Union Baptist Church. She was a child of the salt and the sea, grounded in island grit and the unyielding belief that she was destined for something grand.

THE EDUCATIONAL PURSUIT: A Global Academic Conquest

A diligent student? That’s an understatement—Romona was an academic predator. She began her ascent at Temple Christian School, where she first learned to blend high-octane intellectual focus with a rock-solid Christian compass. She then blazed through Queen’s College High School, shredding her A-Levels in 1994 and snatching the prestigious Malcolm’s Scholarship. This ticket took her across the Atlantic to the University of Hull in England, where she read law and emerged with an LLB (Honors) in 2000. She then conquered the Bar Vocational Course at the University of Cardiff, Wales, before being called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Inner Temple in 2001. She returned to The Bahamas later that year, not just to practice law, but to redefine it.

HER SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: Drama, Devotion, and Divine Fire

Romona’s relationship with the Almighty was anything but quiet. At five years old, she began her residency at

The Historic Salem Union Baptist Church. Under the mentorship of Rev. Dr. Charles W. Saunders, she surrendered her life to Christ, though she never surrendered her flair for the dramatic. Whether she was raising the roof with the Salem Youth Choir or the New Providence District Youth Choir, or commanding the stage as a star actress in church productions, Romona served the Lord with a vivacious intensity that made her faith impossible to ignore.

LOVE AND FAMILY: A Powerhouse Partnership

In 2006, Romona met her match. By October 11, 2010, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Calvin C. Seymour, a man who didn’t just love her—he championed her. Their relationship was a masterclass in absolute support and mutual adoration, a bond that left many in awe. From this electric union came two bright, beautiful daughters, Victoria and Sienna Seymour, who were the absolute center of Romona’s vibrant universe.

THE LEGAL PROFESSION:

A

Fearless Litigator in High Heels

In the courtroom, Romona was a “fierce litigator” who refused to mince words. After cutting her teeth at Lockhart and Munroe in 2001, she took a “leap of faith” in 2003 and birthed her own powerhouse, R.A. Farquharson & Co.. She was known for taking “unusual perspectives” and was “unafraid to take legal points” that others found too daunting. From high-profile cases to defending the common man, she was an indefatigable advocate who fought with sharp wit and formidable acumen.

CIVIC AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:

A Provocative Leader

Romona was a firebrand in the political and civic spheres. A loyal, lifelong member of the Free National Movement (FNM), she rose to the Executive Board in 2024, known for her “tough questions” and refusal to “sugar-coat” any issue. She was a founding Board Member of the Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) and a frequent guest on media programs like The Pandora’s Box, The Legal Brief and Beyond The Headlines. Whether teaching as an Adjunct Professor or organizing consultative meetings for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, she remained a provocative, engaged, and utterly unforgettable force of nature. On Sunday, the 8th day of February, 2026, at the strike of 2:00 in the afternoon, the heavens grew a little louder and the earth a little quieter. It was then that the Great Architect called His most spirited advocate home. Having argued her final earthly brief and left an indelible mark on every soul she touched, Romona took her ultimate “leap of faith,” trading the courtroom for the kingdom and sashaying from this temporal world straight into the arms of eternity.

We the family of the late Romona A. FarquharsonSeymour would like to thank you for your thoughts, calls and prayers in this our hour of bereavement. If any names were inadvertently missed, please note that this was not intentional, but rather an oversight during this time of great sorrow.

MAY HER SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!

Ann and I are heartbroken by the news of the passing of Attorney Romona Farquharson-Seymour.

There are some losses that land heavy, because they take away someone who was still in the middle of giving. Romona was in her late 40s, yet her name already carried weight in our legal community, built on hard work, sharp ability, and the courage to take on difficult matters and see them through.

Since being called to the Bar in December 2001, she earned respect.

Ann and I extend our deepest condolences to her husband, Attorney Calvin Seymour, and to their two daughters, who now face a kind of grief that no family ever deserves. We also extend our condolences to her wider family, her colleagues and friends, and to all who were touched by her life and her work.

On behalf of the Progressive Liberal Party, we mourn with you. We pray that God will steady you, comfort you, and wrap you in peace as you remember Romona and lean on one another in the days ahead.

“I, Romona Seymour Farquharson, do swear that I will truly and honestly demean myself in the practice of an Attorney-at-Law according to the best of my knowledge and ability; that I will support and uphold the Constitution and laws of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas; and that I will faithfully discharge my duties as an Attorney-at-Law without fear or favour, affection or ill will. So help me God.”

PROCESSIONAL OF CASKET | “Battle Hymn of the Republic ”

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of zhis terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on.

Chorus

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps; They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read the righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. [Refrain]

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of all before His judgment seat; O be swift, my soul, to answer Him; be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on. [Refrain]

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make us holy, let us die to make men free, while God is marching on. [Refrain]

CALL TO WORSHIP

“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”

I Cor. 15:54

INTROIT | ”O Thou That Hearest Prayer | Salem’s Sanctuary Choir

OPENING HYMN | “And Can It Be”

And can it be that I should gain An int’rest in the Savior’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! how can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me?

‘Tis mystery all! Th’Immortal dies! Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine!

‘Tis mercy all! let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above, So free, so infinite His grace; Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race; ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free; For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him is mine! Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Charles Wesley, 17 -88

The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me down to lie In pastures green; He leadeth me The quiet waters by.

My soul He doth restore again, And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, E’en for His own name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For Thou art with me, and Thy rod And staff me comfort still.

My table Thou hast furnish-ed In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows.

There was a time I traveled

A lonely sinful road

Beneath a heavy burden bending low But now all things are different

For Jesus took my load It’s alright now I’m His I know

Chorus

It’s alright now for I am in my Savior’s care It’s alright now my Savior hears and answers prayer He’ll walk beside me ‘Til I climb the heav’nly stair And ev’rything is alright now

A-down a lonely pathway

Without a friend to guide I walked in sin and sorrow all alone ‘Til Jesus came and found me And drew me to His side It’s alright now for I’m His own

No more in sin I wander No more in darkness roam

The Lord has placed My feet on higher ground

Each day new heights I’m gaining My soul is nearing home

It’s alright now I’m heaven bound

GRAVESIDE HYMNS

FARTHER ALONG

Tempted and tried we’re oft made to wonder, Why it should be thus all the day long; While there are others living about us, Never molested though in the wrong.

Chorus

Farther along we’ll know all about it, Farther along we’ll understand why; Cheer up, don’t worry, live in the sunshine, We’ll understand it all by and by.

When death has come and taken our loved ones, It leaves our home so lonely and drear; Then do we wonder why others prosper, Living so wicked year after year.

Faithful till death said our loving Master, A few more days to labour and wait; Toils of the road will then seem as nothing, As we sweep through the beautiful gate.

When we see Jesus coming in glory, When He comes from His home in the sky; Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion, We’ll understand it all by and by.

IT IS WELL

When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Chorus

It is well with my soul; It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control: That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And has shed his own blood for my soul.

My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part, but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; Even so, it is well with my soul.

GLAD REUNION DAY

There will be a happy meeting in Heaven, I know When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below Gathered on that blessed hilltop with hearts all aglow That will be a glad reunion day

Chorus

A glad day, a wonderful day

Glad day, a glorious day

There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay That will be a glad reunion day

When we live a million years in that wonderful place Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face It will seem but just a moment of praising God’s grace That will be a glad reunion day

A TRIBUTE TO MY WIFE

In honoring the life and legacy of my dear, my wife; affectionally referred to as Kitten, I write this tribute to tell Victoria and Sienna about who she really was. I have appropriately named it “I Will Tell Them.” I will tell them that you were the world’s best wife, though I was subjected to vigorous cross examination by you as if I was on the witness stand every day all day. I will tell them that you were the world’s best mother. I will tell them that their mother was a phenomenon attorney who fought passionately and vigorously for her clients. I will tell them that because of her passion for the law and the aggressive and tenacious nature of her fight in representing her clients, a certain judge on hearing of our pending marriage, said in open Court; “Oh my God, my Calvin, No! I am sorry for Calvin”. But we were a team. One Police Inspector humorously refers to us as the “Dynamite Duo.” Whatever it was, our relationship was built on trust and respect for one another and our God.

I will tell them that one must always be prepared. I must tell them that her Learned Senior and mentor walked out of Court, as the Judge took his seat on the Bench in her first solo case before the Supreme Court and said “you must take over.” And prepared she was.

I will tell them that their mother was a great teacher, an orator, whether at Church, school, college/university level or otherwise.

I will tell them that she was a beacon of light in the room when she entered. She exhibited poise, confidence and knowledge.

I will tell them that she believed in and served her God from early on as a child until her untimely death.

I will tell them that it was her who witnessed to me that led to my acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior even though I had been “attending” Church longer than she had been alive.

I will tell them that she was a giver. That she honestly believed that it was more blessed to give than to receive.

I will tell them that I personally witnessed the joy of the Lord in her heart and face when she fed Thanksgiving dinner to what some hilariously dub feeding of the “Five Thousand” for many years on Parliament Street. I will tell them that the joy was even greater when I prepared the food. I will tell them that I was your chef and I enjoyed it.

I will tell of the times while standing in line at grocery stores how she paid the bill of total strangers; or purchasing clothes for the homeless or paying of rent where the individual was being evicted by a court. One of those to be evicted tenants at the time, a single mother, is now an attorney.

And now that you have gone on to be with the God you served from a child, I must tell them that the first piece of Jonny cake that was set aside for you on Saturday mornings is now to be shared equally between them. Sleep on Hon, take your rest. I must tell them we all love you but, Our Lord Jesus loves you the best.

TRIBUTE TO MY DAUGHTER:

Romona, you were a wonderful daughter to me. How can I forget all the fun-filled time we spent together? It was you who made me experience the joy of being a mother. As a child, you were the plumpest thing, always subjected to cheeks pinched and filled with laughter. I remember when you were three, your father bought you a tricycle, and you would roam the house proudly. Romona, you were always loving, caring, compassionate, and obedient as a child. These qualities were very present in your adult life. You always upheld the Godly principles that I taught you and allowed them to guide you through the years until your untimely passing. You and I, along with Marvin and Aunt Jackie, always looked forward to Youth Society Bible Study. You were always the first to get ready for this event, where the late Rev. C.W. Saunders and the three Junior Ministers at Salem deposited into your spiritual growth and Christian values. I remember Uncle Johnny and his timely ringing of the church bell for Sunday School and other church events and how serious he took his role of being an usher. These things always made us excited and happy for church events and reunions. Although I was your mother, you were the one that taught me every day. Your wisdom and knowledge always showed even through simple matters. Although I was your advisor growing up, somehow the tables were turned and you became my own advisor as you got older. There are so many good memories within the life we shared together. I remember every summer going home to Little Farmers Cay, Exuma, to spend time with my mother, going down to the beach to see who the fastest swimmer was out of us two, along with wonderful fishing trips where you would always end up being called conch girl by the late Richard Ellis due to your love for conch. I also remember having a joyous time at church and church concerts while on the cay and trying to visit everybody before leaving to come back to Nassau. You were always the highlight of these momentous occasions. I will never forget the long nights of laughter shared as mother told us jokes about her parents and her childhood memories, while eating food and reuniting with friends, hoping that the vacation never end. You, your father, and I would always spend weekends driving around Nassau, having the most fun. Every birthday and weekend we would visit with your aunts, Uncle Eddie and cousins where you would play to your hearts’ content. Uncle Eddie’s house was almost like a second home to you and your cousin Spindy Major. My cousin Ethel would always remind me to bring you to play with her younger siblings, expanding the fun-filled life you already had. As I reminisce, I know that my heart is filled with enough memories to last a lifetime and more. Romona, I love you and I am proud of the woman you became. Although we have to say goodbye, there are lots and lots of cherished memories that our family and I will never forget. All these joyous memories motivate me to continue to appreciate life and live for God in a joyous manner because he is definitely my strong pillar. So long Romona, bye for now. I’ll meet you at the pearly gates in Heaven.

Love, Mom

The Free National Movement family is shocked to learn of our dear sister attorney Romona Farquharson’s passing today.

Romona was widely respected for her sharp wit, formidable legal acumen, and fearless advocacy. She brought that same intellect, passion, and conviction to the Free National Movement as a member of our Executive Committee.

She was direct and did not mince words when sharing her views. We benefitted from her tough questions and strong positions on subjects most would avoid or sugarcoat when the matter required forthrightness.

Her voice and presence will be deeply missed, not just by our organization, but by the legal fraternity and the wider national community.

On behalf of my wife Berlice and the entire Free National Movement, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, especially Calvin, her husband, and all who mourn this significant loss.

We pray that they find comfort in treasured memories and strength in the powerful legacy she leaves behind. May her soul rest in peace.

TRIBUTE FROM THE STAFF OF R. A. FARQUHARSON & CO.

“When great souls die, the air around us becomes light, rare, sterile. We breathe, briefly.

Our eyes, briefly, see with a hurtful clarity. Our memory, suddenly sharpened, examines, gnaws on kind words unsaid, promised walks never taken.”

WHEN GREAT

TREES FALL

by Maya Angelou

A great soul has died, a great tree has fallen. The staff, present and past, of R. A. Farquharson & Co. know wholeheartedly the greatness of Romona, affectionately called “R. A.”. We share a common testimony to the legacy R. A. has left behind. And we hold tight to the achievements and aspirations that are a part of that legacy.

R. A., you were fierce, a fighter for your clients and the common man. Staff would often hear you saying that everyone deserved justice. Many matters were therefore conducted pro bono because you felt as if those persons could not afford legal representation. Your kindness was unwavering to clients and staff alike. You built a legal practice to be proud of and we are grateful to have walked with you on that journey. You have inspired us to attain the same greatness… a great tree has fallen.

R. A., we will miss the personal touch. We will miss hearing you ask each of us on Monday mornings, “How was the weekend?”, “Did you go to Church?”, “What did you cook?”. We will miss gathering together for Thanksgiving and birthdays. We will miss travelling with you to the Family Islands and the United States. Most of the times, when you were finished with Court on Nassau Street or Bernard Road, you would call and say, “I am stopping at McDonalds or Wendy’s. What do each of you want?”. We will miss making Christmas and Easter baskets for your children’s classmates. We will miss attendance with you at Church; you put God first in everything. We will miss the joy, the laughter… a great soul has died. Yet, we carry on.

R. A., we will do our part to preserve your legacy for your children. In the words of Maya Angelou:

“And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.”

Irecall the day so clearly — sometime in August 2010 — walking through the doors of R.A. Farquharson & Co. on Elizabeth Avenue. I was completely unaware that this opportunity would change my life forever.

“R.A.” — as we so often called you in the office — I have been at a loss for words since hearing of your passing. I am broken.

To know you was to love you. To know you was to understand that growth followed every interaction with you. You always steered me in the right direction, and for that I will be forever grateful.

When I was admitted to The Bahamas Bar in October 2021, you presented my Petition and said, “She not only entered my Chambers, she entered my life.” Those words will remain with me always. You were more than an employer. You were my mentor and advisor, my pupil master, and most importantly, my mother. The credit for my growth is because of you. I am who I am because of you.

I write this with tears streaming down my face because I never once allowed myself to imagine life without you. Even so, I am deeply blessed to hold on to the many memories we shared. I will never forget the laughter in the office during quiet moments, and most importantly, the lessons about God and the importance of tithing. You were the greatest teacher.

RAF, your many lessons will never be forgotten. Rest assured, your legacy will live on — both publicly and in my heart. There will always and forever be only one Eagle.

Rest in peace, my dear mother.

With so much love, Ezranda — “Lil Romona”

TRBUTE TO MY BOSS

In October 2022, you hired me on the spot, and I was very grateful for it. From that day onward, you took me under your legal wing and introduced me to the practice of law. I learned a great deal from our conversations, which covered various topics. You always told me, “Sammy, you should practice without fear or favour”. Observing you in court and working under you truly taught me what it means to be an advocate. Mrs. Farquharson, you precisely practice the law without fear or favour, and that is why I believe that you were so successful in your career.

Mrs. Farquharson, working under you, I got to know you on a personal level. Firstly, you were a Christian woman who always put God first, and you often gave me Christian advice. Secondly, I truly admired your intelligence and your ability to remember facts in perfect detail. Mrs. Farquharson, you were also a joy to be around as you were very jovial and vivacious. I will always remember our light-hearted conversations and your laughter, for it made the work a little easier. You always knew how to put a smile on my face. I will cherish the yearly Thanksgiving dinners you had for your staff, along with your birthday celebrations. Most recently, on the 30th January 2026, I celebrated your birthday with you, and I enjoyed it. However, never in a million years would I think that it would be my last time celebrating your birthday with you.

Being at the office that you built is now bittersweet. Bitter, because you are no longer here with us, but sweet, because I will execute the knowledge that you gave me. I always accompanied you in court, sitting by your side. But now, I enter court without you being physically next to me. But I know that you will always be there by my side, guiding me.

Mrs. Farquharson, I will always cherish the knowledge that I gained from you, along with the many laughs that we shared, and I can undoubtedly call you a friend. You played a pivotal role in my legal career, and I will always love you for that. I will always cherish the legal and personal advice that you gave me. I will forever miss you.

Your Associate/Friend, Samuel Taylor (Sammy)

“Sister Romona”, the name by which I first came to know you. At the impressionable age of six I was fortunate to meet you; the giant of a lady who we all came to love. At the time I was a mama’s boy and would cling to my mother as she ran Vacation Bible School at Salem Union Baptist Church.

One morning you greeted me. You were a lady with a bubbly, infectious spirit who invited me to join your class in such an affectionate manner that my vice-like grip on my mother’s leg began to loosen. Still cautious, I asked my mother, “Who is that pretty lady?” She replied, “That is Sister Romona.” I answered without hesitation, “I will go with her.” It was one of the best decisions of my young life, as your class was always filled with excitement, driven by your joyous personality.

At the completion of Vacation Bible School that year, I felt the absence of the person who had left such an indelible mark on my young life as you went away to pursue your goal of becoming an attorney at law. I would always ask my mother, “Where is Sister Romona?” and she would say, “Don’t worry, Joshua, she’ll be back.” And you did return during school breaks; I would spy on you from the pew while we were in church and you would look back and smile at me. As time went on, Sister Romona graduated from law school. Upon being called to the Bar, you began your professional journey. In my adolescence, I did not understand the rigors of the legal profession, so again I wondered where you had gone. But I was often comforted by radio broadcasts documenting your advocacy in our local courts, and on many occasions while on my way to school I would tell my mother, “Turn it up! Turn it up!” whenever I heard your name.

My distant admiration became first-hand two years ago when you kindly allowed me to intern at your firm. During that time, I had the opportunity to watch a master at work, fusing a wealth of legal knowledge with a charismatic, riveting personality. If tickets were sold for judicial proceedings, yours would have sold out before a trial date was set. What resonated most with me was your fearlessness. Often, I found myself defending your “fierceness” and reminding anyone who questioned it that you had carved a path in the once male-dominated criminal defence realm. In doing so, you were forced to develop an unyielding spirit and, in the Bahamian vernacular, you were never easy.

Despite not being able to have you call me to the Bar, I will never forget the great woman I came to know and love.

Until we meet again,

Iwrite this tribute today to honor the life of my dear friend, Attorney Romona Farquharson Seymour. Her sudden passing has left a deep void in our nation and in my heart.

Romona and I shared a friendship of many years, built on loyalty, laughter, and trust. I was proud to campaign alongside her when she sought to be nominated as the FNM candidate, and I admired her dedication to service. Beyond her professional achievements, Romona was generous in spirit. I will never forget our trips to Abaco, where she introduced me to fishing—renting the boat, providing all the gear and snacks, and laughing as I teased her and Calvin for catching the most fish. Those moments of joy and camaraderie are memories I will cherish forever.

Romona valued my counsel, often seeking my opinion on matters related to education and employment in the Public Service, even asking me to help locate sections in the General Orders to assist with cases she was handling. That trust reflected the depth of our friendship and her respect for the perspectives of others. She also welcomed me into her family, asking me to be Godmother to her daughter Sienna, reminding me that true friendship is about love, not status.

I will miss our gatherings, our private talks, and her hearty laugh that could light up any room. Romona was more than a friend—she was family. Her legacy of kindness, loyalty, and joy will live on in all of us who were blessed to know her.

TRIBUTE TO MY A-1 BOSS

My boss was more than a boss…she was a good friend. And despite the difference in our ages, I would sometimes refer to her as my mother. She was my A-1 from Day 1. We were close, very close. She had a way of lifting me up when I was down. She would pull me aside and say whatever she could to lift my spirits. She knew how to make me smile. My boss would always have my back. I was her right hand and she was mine. Nothing was too good for me. It was a relationship that was truly special and she will always live in my heart. Since her passing, I walk into the Office and I say “Good morning Mrs. Romona”, just to lift my spirits. Gone, but never to be forgotten. Your friend to the end.

Melnie Butler

One day we shall see Romona in the New Jerusalem, and we pray that we will all be ready when Jesus comes. Family, be encouraged. God will take us through. Let us continue to love one another and be blessed. God has taken His angel home.

A TRIBUTE

TO MRS. ROMONA FARQUHARSONSEYMOUR ROMONA… EVEN WRITING YOUR NAME FEELS HEAVY

You turned from a friend into family. And somewhere along the way, we forgot where the friendship ended and the family began. You became ours and we became yours.

From funerals to christenings…

From weddings to installations…

From birthdays to spontaneous celebrations… We shared so many sacred spaces together.

You were there for the tears and the triumphs; when there were hands lifted in worship and when hearts were heavy with grief. And somehow, in every room you were the showstopper. Not because you demanded attention but because your presence carried weight, grace, style, joy and confidence.

You had a way of walking into a space and making it feel complete. And oh, how we loved celebrating you because you loved celebrating us. You never just attended moments; you made them memorable.

Memories mattered to you. You believed in marking occasions and honoring milestones; showing up dressed, ready, radiant. You believed in making people feel seen and that is why this loss has broken us so deeply. Because the piece that brought so many together… The laughter that filled the gaps… The glue in so many of our gatherings…Has now gone quiet.

You were principled, poised, and powerful but you were also playful. The endless laughter. The quick wit. The inside jokes. The warm embraces. You loved fully. You stood firmly. You covered faithfully.

You were a woman of faith who lived what she believed. Your Christianity was not loud, but it was lived. You were dependable. Loyal. Generous. Strong. And yet, so tender.

It has been a long day without you.And the silence where your voice once rang feels almost sacred now. We are wounded because we loved you. And we loved you because you first loved us so well.

Thank you for turning friendship into family. Thank you for showing up every single time. Thank you for the memories that now feel like treasures we hold tighter than ever.

You will never be forgotten. You cannot be replaced. You are forever stitched into the story of our family. We love you deeply. But God loved you first… and loves you best.

With all our hearts, Dr. Matheo, Davantee, Maté & Makai Smith David & Leona Greene & Family

About 13 years ago, I made a request for my name to be added to the list of Attorneys willing to repesent persons before the Court of Appeal. Now this was a pretty bold move on my part, seeing that I had never represented anybody before the Court of Appeal at that point. Honestly, back then, I had absolutely no clue how to present an appeal. And to further compound the matter, I had just opened my law firm and I had no Senior Attorney on my team to show me what to do. I was moving through on pure faith and courage. Anyway, I was eventually appointed to represent my first client before the Court of Appeal and panic started to set in. I had no idea what to do. In desperation, I decided that I would watch another Attorney go through the process and hopefully, that should set me on the right track. I resolved that I would watch my Senior, Mrs. Ramona Farquharson-Seymour conduct a criminal appeal. On the morning of that appeal, I sat right next to Mrs. FarquharsonSeymour and I said nothing to her other than Good Morning and how you doing. She kept on looking at me with this perplexed look on her face; I felt like she wanted to ask me what I was doing there, since she was the only one scheduled to present that morning. I was too shame to tell her that I didn’t know what I was doing and I was depending on her to show me the way. So I just sat there and pretended like I was furniture. Anyway, I watched Mrs. Farquharson-Seymour argue on her feet for three straight hours and I was absolutely blown away by the sheer strength of her arguments and the grit with which she presented them. Without even knowing it, Mrs. Farquharson-Seymour gave me my first and only master class on how to present an appeal and by doing so, she planted a seed within me that I have watered and nurtured continuously over the years. I can truly say that I am a better Attorney because I took the time to observe Mrs. Ramona Farquharson-Seymour in action. I still can’t believe that she is gone. To say that I am shocked would be an understatement. This one stings so bad. Rest in peace, My Learned Senior. Until we meet again..

ADVOCATE!!!

I am in shock to learn about the passing of my friend Ramona Farquharson Seymour. I met Ramona about twenty years ago, and we came up together in the Free National Movement. She was a brilliant and passionate attorney at law, a true patriot who dedicated herself to her profession, her community, and her country.

Ramona was not only a qualified barrister, but she was an excellent orator who utilized her communication skills effectively on various media platforms, including during several television and radio programs. She was a bright light whose contributions impacted many throughout the country.

Ramona also kindled a deep desire to serve on the national level as a candidate in frontline politics. She was fierce and bold, never afraid to speak truth to power or stand for what she thought was right, even if it cost her. She was a woman of excellence and deep conviction. She would have made an excellent contribution as a member of parliament or as a member of the Senate.

Our country has lost a truly gifted and talented legal professional, and Bahamians, including many whom she had the privilege to serve, have lost a warrior and true advocate. My sincere condolences to her family.

My prayers go out to the family of noted Attorney and St Anne’s Constituent, Ramona Farquharson. It was her birthday on January 30th. I visited her office and saw her after Dr Walkine’s State Funeral in January, she looked well and in charge. Very nice visit in her prosperous firm. She had an excellent reputation as a fierce litigator and will be missed.

With hearts both broken and deeply grateful, we thank you for standing with us as we celebrate the extraordinary life of our beloved Romona.

Your prayers, your calls, your embraces, your stories, and every act of kindness have reminded us that Romona’s life reached far beyond the walls of our home. The love you have shown is a reflection of the love she so freely gave.

To us, she was everything.
