“Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised” – Proverbs 31:30

A TIME TO BE BORN AND NURTURED

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2).

On Saturday, October 16, 1943, a beautiful baby girl was born in Devil’s Point, Cat Island, to Culmer and Albertha Rolle. She was lovingly named Bernice Sarah Rolle. As the third of five children, Bernice was raised in a home deeply shaped by her parents’ strong entrepreneurial spirit, which would influence her character and life path.

From an early age, Bernice displayed a vibrant, curious personality. She possessed natural confidence, never hesitating to express her thoughts, and an innate ability to communicate warmly and clearly. Under her parents’ nurturing guidance, she embraced the values of hard work, independence, and determination.

Bernice’s warm, infectious smile could light up any room, and she had a remarkable ability to make everyone she met feel seen, valued, and important. These qualities, together with her strong foundation, would become hallmarks of the beautiful life she lived.

A TIME TO LEARN

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

Bernice began her early education at Cat Island All-Age School, where she built a strong foundation of determination, discipline, and resilience. Seeking greater opportunities, she later left Cat Island to attend trade school, where she trained diligently as a seamstress. Through her commitment and skill, she earned a reputation for excellence and became well known for her work as a seamstress and as a straw vendor.

Driven by a deep commitment to personal growth and lifelong learning, Bernice continued her education at C.H. Reeves Evening School, earning several certifications in Office Procedures and Administration. Her passion for education led her to pursue further studies at the then College of The Bahamas, where she earned two Associate degrees.

Never one to settle, Bernice remained steadfast in her pursuit of knowledge. She later attended St. Benedict’s University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. Her educational accomplishments not only enriched her life but also inspired everyone around her. Bernice’s unwavering dedication to self-improvement and to empowering others stands as a lasting testament to her belief that learning is a lifelong journey and that all things are possible with fortitude and dexterity.

A TIME TO LOVE & BE LOVED

“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones” (Proverbs 31:10).

While Bernice’s love for the Lord was the

foundation of her life, her heart was also captured by the love of one special man, Revy Francis, her “Ree.” Their love story blossomed into a beautiful union, and they courted and sealed their love in Holy Matrimony on December 9, 1963. Their marriage was grounded in love, commitment, mutual respect, and partnership. Over time, it matured into a source of strength and stability throughout their years together. They were inseparable; when you saw Bernice, Revy was always right beside her. From this union, five blessings were born: Gail, Alphanette, Shawn, Marcus, and Devard. Bernice embraced motherhood with strength, wisdom, and unwavering devotion. She believed in raising her children with discipline, instilling in them respect, responsibility, and integrity. Firm when necessary, she guided them with love, shaping them into principled, grounded individuals.

At the same time, Bernice was her children’s greatest encourager and steadfast supporter. She inspired them to strive for excellence, pursue their dreams, and believe in their potential. Through every season of life, she stood by them with unconditional love, offering comfort in hard times and celebrating their victories with pride. Her nurturing spirit and enduring presence left a legacy of love that will continue to guide her children and future generations.

A TIME FOR AN ENCOUNTER

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

Bernice had a deep hunger and thirst for a greater purpose in life, one that transcended worldly accomplishments. At an early age, she answered the call to faith, accepting the Lord as her personal Savior. That decision marked the start of a lifelong spiritual journey that would shape her values, guide her decisions, and anchor her in both joy and adversity.

Her love for the Lord was evident in how she lived each day. Bernice was passionate about serving God wholeheartedly, demonstrating unwavering faith, humility, and devotion. She found joy in worship, strength in prayer, and purpose in living according to God’s Word. Her faith was not merely something she professed; it was embodied in her actions, kindness, and the grace she extended to others.

Bernice’s life was a powerful embodiment of what it means to walk by faith. She was admired as a woman of integrity,

strength, and spiritual conviction, a true example of a Godfearing woman. Many regarded her as a paradigm not only for her accomplishments but also for the depth of her faith and her labors for God. Her life remains an enduring reminder of the power of devotion, love, and faithful service to God.

A TIME TO LABOR

“A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men” (Proverbs 18:16)

Bernice began her professional journey humbly as a janitress at the Public Treasury, where she quickly learned the value of diligence, discipline, and financial prudence. Through her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, she performed her duties with distinction, earning the respect of her supervisors and colleagues. Her dedication and reliability did not go unnoticed, and she was soon promoted to Switch Board Operator. Determined to grow and advance, Bernice continued to develop her skills and competencies, which led to her appointment as a Filing Assistant in the Ministry of Finance. Bernice was never satisfied with mediocrity and consistently pursued further education. Her hard work and determination did not go unnoticed, and she was promoted to Registry Supervisor, where she ran the Registry like a well-oiled machine. She always said that cleanliness was next to Godliness. As she was also in charge of the custodial staff, she ensured that everything in the Ministry of Finance was spic and span, and you “could eat off the floor.” Never satisfied with merely existing, always thriving, Bernice was determined to be all she could be. She enrolled at the College of Saint Benedict (Nassau Campus) to pursue her bachelor’s degree. To complete it, she had to travel to the Main Campus in Minnesota. Although Devard was a toddler, the family decided to support her endeavors, leaving Rev. Revy and Alphanette responsible for caring for the family during her two-year absence. Upon her return, Bernice was promoted to the Public Service’s executive stream.

For more than twenty (20) years, Bernice served in the Ministry of Finance with professionalism and integrity, consistently demonstrating a willingness to learn and improve. Her pursuit of additional qualifications further enhanced her capabilities and positioned her for continued advancement within the public service.

Throughout her career, Bernice contributed her talents to several government agencies, including the Department of Public Service, the Customs Department, and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture. In each role, she demonstrated dedication, adaptability, and excellence in service. She mentored and trained many, including Jack Curtis, Lorena Rolle, Betty Bain, Denise Culmer, Mavis Culmer, Maxine Rolle, Dorinda Hanna, Stephanie Cleare, Doreen Thompson, Julian Smith, Sabrina Martin, Nenia Fox, Therez McKenzie, Joann Rolle, and Deborah Bastian-Albury. Her more than thirty (30) years of faithful service culminated in her retirement from the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture, leaving a legacy of hard work, perseverance, and commitment to national development.

A TIME TO SERVE THE LORD “Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters” (Isaiah 55:1).

Bernice’s life was deeply rooted in her unwavering faith and steadfast commitment to serving God. She served in ministries at the Coconut Grove Temple (Josey Church), Quintine Alley Church, and finally at the Southland Church of God. As a founding and devoted member of the Southland Church of God under the visionary leadership of Bishop Clifford Moss, she demonstrated remarkable dedication from the start. Bernice faithfully embraced every opportunity to be actively engaged in the life of the church—attending Worship Services, Prayer Meetings, Women’s Gatherings, and fellowship activities with enthusiasm and consistency. She was known for her punctuality, often arriving early with a joyful spirit and a heart eager to serve. Bernice embodied readiness, reverence, and a genuine love for the Lord’s work, setting an example for others through her quiet strength and faithful presence. Bernice was also a member of a women’s gospel-singing group called The Spiritualettes. They sang harmoniously and melodiously at many concerts and lived as one; their children were all considered family. Several members have transitioned, including Victoria McKenzie, Vernita Stubbs, Lovetta Robinson, Joyce Ramsey, Beulah Sweeting, and Rev. Menencha Clarke. Bernice and Rev. Lozier Roker were the last

two remaining members.

Beyond her spiritual devotion, Bernice was an avid, passionate fundraiser whose efforts significantly advanced the church’s mission and growth. Whether organizing events or contributing her time and resources, she gave wholeheartedly and selflessly. Her culinary talents were exceptional, and her cooking was second to none. The peas and rice and the conch fritters were especially memorable. She lovingly prepared meals that nourished the body and brought comfort, joy, and a sense of community to all who gathered. Through her kitchen, she ministered with warmth and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone blessed to share in her gifts.

Bernice’s life was a beautiful testament to faith in action, shown through service, generosity, hospitality, and an enduring commitment to God and His people.

After the passing of Bishop Clifford Moss, a new chapter in her spiritual journey began when her husband, Bishop Revy Francis, was elevated to pastoral leadership at The New Victory Temple Church of God. During this transition, Bernice gracefully embraced the esteemed roles of Pastor’s Wife and ‘Mother of the Church.’

At the time, the church met in a modest wooden structure and had fewer than fifty members. Undeterred by these limitations, Bernice set her sights on building a new edifice. She approached the undertaking with humility, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to ministry, steadfastly embracing its sacred responsibilities and inherent challenges with courage and grace. Demonstrating remarkable initiative and resourcefulness, she organized a range of fundraising activities, including cookouts, cake competitions, and concerts, to support each phase of the building project. Her persuasive and engaging spirit was widely recognized; she had a unique ability to inspire generosity and participation, ensuring consistent support for every initiative. Indeed, her determination and influence made it difficult for anyone to decline involvement, as she effectively encouraged contributions through ticket purchases and sponsorships.

Bernice’s passion for serving the Lord was evident in her active involvement across multiple areas of ministry. She served with distinction as Women’s Ministry President at both the Local

and District levels, providing leadership, mentorship, and spiritual guidance to countless women. She also contributed meaningfully to the Sunday School Ministry, served as a Fundraising Chairperson, and faithfully served as an “offering appealer,” truly knowing how to collect a “good offering.” In every capacity, Bernice exemplified dedication, perseverance, and a heart fully committed to advancing the Kingdom of God. Her life of service stands as a powerful testament to her unwavering faith, selfless spirit, and deep love for God and His people.

At last, the new edifice was completed and dedicated, standing as a testament to her vision and unwavering commitment. Upon retiring in 2018, she left the New Victory Temple Church of God debt-free, an extraordinary achievement that reflected her diligence and faith. Yet God was not finished with Bernice. After her beloved son, Apostle Devard Francis, was elected and installed as Senior Pastor of the Southland Cathedral Church of God, now known as Southland Cathedral Global Ministries, she remained a constant, faithful presence. She was always the first to arrive at any service, with her beloved “Ree” tagging along. At the church’s annual Thanksgiving dinner last year, Bernice received an award for being the member who was always the first to arrive at any service. She continued to show up, offering her support, wisdom, and prayers, reinforcing the ministry with the same passion and devotion that had long defined her service. Her chair remains in place, draped in her memory, but Bernice has moved on and is now seated in another chair, waiting

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Proverbs 9:27).

Bernice was intimately in touch with her body and acutely aware of specific issues, including pain, lumps, and cuts (sometimes selfdiagnosing), which led her to seek medical treatment in November 2025. After completing various tests, the children (except Bernice) were informed of her diagnosis during the Christmas holiday, and they decided not to share the results with her to avoid causing her worry or undue stress. In January 2026, Bernice, being the inquisitive person she was about her health, sought a second opinion. We were all then summoned to the doctor’s office, and after many additional tests, consultations and meetings, Bernice was given the results and diagnosis, which she seemed to understand and accept. All she said was that she would pray, that God is in control and that he sees and

knows all things. In May, she sought specialized assistance from an Oncologist and on her last visit, he advised that she would have to be admitted to the hospital due to her low blood count. She was admitted to the hospital on May 23rd, where she remained for several days. Upon her release, she stayed at her son’s home, where she received around-theclock assistance from caregivers and several nurses. Sadly, on June 17th at 5:01 pm, Bernice transitioned from her robe of flesh into a brand-new body. Her last words to Jan were, “I want to be buried in my wedding dress,” as she was about to meet her Bridegroom.

FINAL THOUGHTS

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Bernice may have been a mentor, sister, friend, confidant, aunt, cousin, and so much more to those who knew her, touching countless lives with her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering presence. Yet to us, she was all of that and infinitely more, our mother, our greatest source of strength and support, and our constant cheerleader through every triumph and trial. She stood by us with steady, unconditional love, celebrating our victories as if they were her own and lifting us up when we faltered. We will miss her beautiful smile that could light up any room, her cooking that brought us together and filled our hearts as much as our stomachs, and her wise counsel that guided us through life’s most difficult moments. Her guidance shaped who we are, her encouragement pushed us forward, and her love remains the foundation on which we stand. She is now absent from this body and present with the Lord. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

MUSIC PRELUDE (INTROIT TO FAMILY) | SCGM Praise Team

MODERATOR | Bishop Sanford Rolle, 1st Assistant Pastor

OPENING PRAYER | Bishop Philemon Wilson

CONGREGATIONAL SONG | “Blessed Jesus Hold My Hands”

As I travel through this pilgrim land

There is a Friend who walks with me

Leads me safely through the sinking sand

It is the Christ of Calvary

This would be my prayer, dear Lord, each day

To help me do the best I can

For I need Thy light to guide me day and night

Blessed Jesus, hold my hand

(Chorus)

Jesus, hold my hand, I need Thee every hour

Through this pilgrim land

Protect me by The power

Hear my feeble plea, plea

O Lord, look down on me,

While I kneel in prayer I hope to meet you there

Blessed Jesus hold my hand

Let me travel in the light divine That I may see the blessed way Keep me that I may be wholly Thine And sing redemption’s song some day I will be a soldier brave and true And ever firmly take a stand As I onward go and daily meet the foe Blessed Jesus, hold my hand

When I wander through the valley dim Toward the setting of the sun

If I a crown of life have won I have put my faith in Thee, dear Lord, That I may reach the golden strand There’s no other friend on whom I can depend Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.

To Canaan’s land I’m on my way, Where the soul (of man) never dies; My darkest night will turn to day, Where the soul (of man) never dies.

(Chorus)

No sad farewells, no tear - dimmed eyes, Where all is love, and the soul never dies. Dear friends, there’ll be no sad fare-wells, There’ll be no tear-dimmed eyes, Where all is peace and joy and love, And the soul of man never dies.

A rose is blooming there for me, Where the soul (of man) never dies; And I will spend eternity, Where the soul (of man) never dies.

My life will end in deathless sleep, Where the soul (of man) never dies; And everlasting joys I’ll reap, Where the soul (of man) never dies.

I’m on my way to that fair land, Where the soul (of man) never dies; Where there will be no parting hand, And the soul (of man) never dies.

(Chorus)

What a happy time twill be, when we all get home, Over by the crystal sea, never more to roam; In that homeland of the soul, where the joy-bells chime, Singing while the ages roll, What a happy time.

Tribute to “Mom” Bernice Francis

Tribute to My Mother (Bernice Francis)

Today, I honor the life and legacy of my mother, a woman whose strength, discipline, and unwavering faith shaped my life in immeasurable ways. She was a no-nonsense woman, firm in her principles and steadfast in her beliefs, yet deeply kind, compassionate, and considerate in how she cared for others.

My mother carried herself with quiet power. She was strong in spirit, disciplined in her actions, and talented in so many ways that enriched not only our family but everyone blessed to know her. She had a way of setting high expectations, not out of harshness, but because she believed in excellence, integrity, and doing what was right. Through her, I learned the value of standing firm, working hard, and carrying myself with dignity.

What made her even more extraordinary was her heart. Beneath that firm exterior was a well of kindness, compassion, and love. She was always willing to help, to listen, and to give—often without asking for anything in return. She was deeply God-fearing, and her faith was not just something she spoke about; it was something she lived every single day.

One of the most powerful lessons she left me with were her simple but profound words: “Don’t worry about it—just pray.” Those words were her guiding principle, and now they are mine. In moments of fear, uncertainty, or hardship, I hear her voice reminding me to trust God, to release my worries, and to have faith that everything will be okay.

Though she is no longer physically with me, her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the love she gave, and the strength she passed down. I carry her with me in every decision I make, every challenge I face, and every prayer I whisper.

Mom, thank you for being my foundation, my teacher, and my example. Your life was a blessing, your love was a gift, and your memory will forever be a guiding light in my life.

Rest peacefully, Mommy. I will continue to honor you, love you, and live by your words—I won’t worry… I’ll just pray. Forever In My Heart,

Your Al & “AliCat”

Tribute to “Mom” Bernice Francis

A TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER

As I sat to draft this tribute, I can vividly remember her and the standards she held.

We gather today to honor a life filled with love and generosity of Bernice Rolle- Francis—my mother. She had a way of making ordinary moments feel significant, and she showed her love through actions: through patience when it was needed most, through encouragement when I doubted myself, and through sacrifices that were never spoken of but always felt. Grief is real, but so is gratitude. I am grateful for the memories that bring tears and smiles at the same time. I am grateful for the values she passed down.

Although she is gone, her presence remains—every time I choose to be kind, and be there for family events I show up because no one wants to experience the ‘tongue lashing’ that may follow. Any task she assigned is completed accurately and in a timely manner thinking……… ‘what would mom say, and whether whatever is done met her expectations.’

“My mother’s love had no limits. She made space for others, even when she carried burdens of her own. She believed in Education. Mom achieved her tertiary education while working full time and would always encourage people, including me, too and that belief helped me grow into someone better. Today, we say goodbye, but we do not forget. We celebrate a mother who gave her heart completely. Her legacy is not just what she did, but how she made us feel—loved, supported, and understood.

Rest in peace, Mom.

From your daughter Gail

Tribute To Our Mother

Mummy, Bantu,

There are no words strong enough to capture the depth of our love and gratitude for you, but today we try, because you deserve to hear it, to feel it, and to know just how much you mean to us. You have been our first home, our first teacher, and our constant source of strength. Through every season of life, you stood tall, not just for yourself, but for us. You poured love into us in ways both seen and unseen, making sacrifices we may never fully understand, but will forever appreciate.

You taught us what it means to be men, not just by your words, but by your example. You showed us resilience when life was hard, faith when things seemed uncertain, and kindness even when it would have been easier to turn away. Because of you, we carry strength in our hearts and purpose in our steps.

Mummy, you have been our protector, our encourager, and our guide. When we stumbled, you lifted us. When we doubted ourselves, you believed in us. When we needed love the most, you gave it freely and without hesitation.

We honor your patience, your wisdom, and your unwavering dedication to our lives. Everything we are and everything we strive to be is rooted in the foundation you laid for us. Today, we celebrate you not just as our mother, but as an incredible woman whose love has shaped our lives in the most beautiful way.

Thank you for every prayer you prayed, every tear you wiped, every lesson you taught, and every moment you stood by our side.

We love you beyond words. And we carry you with us in everything we do.

With all our hearts,

Tribute To My Sister Bernice

I remember our days growing up in Devil’s Point, Cat Island. We didn’t have much, but we learned how to make our way on what we had. We also learned how to lean on the Lord and each other. I remember coming to Nassau and living with you until I got on my feet. No matter what happened, we were sisters. You always checked on me and I appreciated it.

The world is a little duller without your light, your energy, your determination to get things done. You now join Carmetta, Mazie and Thomas and our parents in the great beyond. Please say hello to everyone for me. While I understand that you are no longer in pain and are present with the Lord, I will miss you.

Your Loving Sister, El

A Tribute To My Aunt Bernice (Aunty B)

As I would call her, She loved my uncle till death; you could not get between her and her Re’.

I personally watched them worship together, Pray together, Build church and family together, Build business together, Travel together. Get old together. Helped push the Church of God Local, District, National, and International together.

Support her son and family in ministry together Stayed together till death.

She pushed others to excel, go to school, get qualified, and get promoted, as she did. Uncle was the driver for years, Then Aunty B became the designated driver later in life until a few months ago, Bishop carried the bag with pride, Sometimes Aunty B was in front, sometimes Uncle was in front, but they never left the other far behind.

I witnessed the row followed by the boiled fish served with love.

Bishop suck his teeth, then went to make their tea. Wow, they understood each other and accepted the changes the years brought.

She was a straight shooter, afraid of no one but God. Tell you off, then send you to the pot or fridge. Or take avocado pear or whatever the yard brought forth on your way out.

A Proverbs 31 Woman

“Her children arise and call her blessed”. What a woman

Thank you, Aunty B, for loving Uncle Revy until death.

A Tribute to Our Grandmother

Grammy, there are no words big enough to hold all that you have meant to us, yet we try—because your life deserves to be spoken of, remembered, and honored with love.

You were the heart of our family, the steady presence that brought us all together. In your arms, we found comfort. In your voice, we found wisdom. In your laughter, we found joy. You were more than a grandmother, you were our teacher, our protector, our safe place, and our greatest example of strength and grace.

Each of us carries a piece of you within us. In the lessons you quietly taught, in the kindness you showed to everyone, and in the love you gave so freely, you shaped who we are today. You showed us how to stand strong in difficult times, how to love without conditions, and how to keep faith no matter what.

We remember your warmth, the way you made each of us feel special, seen, and deeply loved. Whether through your encouraging words, your shared stories, or simply your presence, you filled our lives with a light that will never fade.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that your love does not leave us. It lives on in each of us, in our choices, in our memories, and in the way we care for one another. Your legacy is not only in what you gave us, but in how you taught us to give to others.

Thank you, Grammy, for everything, for your sacrifices, your prayers, and your unwavering love. Thank you for being our foundation and our guiding light.

We will carry you with us always. We will speak your name with pride, and we will continue striving to make you proud.

Rest peacefully, Grammy. Sleep in peace.

You are forever loved, forever remembered, and forever in our hearts.

With all our love. Keturah, Alexio, Krizaire, Koreh, Diahmond, Shawn Jr., Shannon, Lashawn, Shanya, Markayla, Devard II, Dre, and Verold (VJ)

Tribute From Oral Neely

In January 2017, I received a call from Apostle Devard Francis inviting me to perform at an 11:00 a.m. service at New Victory Temple. That invitation marked the beginning of a relationship that allowed me to know and love Mother Bernice Francis.

Mother Bernice was exactly who she appeared to be: strong, genuine, and unwavering in her faith. She carried herself with quiet dignity, loved God’s people wholeheartedly, and never hesitated to offer encouragement, wisdom, or a warm smile. Her life reflected Christ not only in her words but also in her consistent acts of kindness and service.

Over the years, I came to appreciate the tremendous impact she had on her family, her church, and everyone fortunate enough to know her. She leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, humility, and unwavering devotion that will continue to inspire generations.

Though our hearts grieve her passing, we rejoice in knowing that she has finished her race and entered into eternal rest with the Lord she served so faithfully.

To Bishop Revy Francis, Apostle Devard, Lady Janique Francis, the Francis family, and the entire church family, please accept my heartfelt condolences and prayers. May God’s peace, strength, and comforting presence sustain you in the days ahead. Mother Bernice’s legacy will never be forgotten.
