Obituary

For Everything Upon The Earth Has Its Season……

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart."

A Time to be Born

September 9th, 1970, was a day that Kilroy and Jacqueline Wilson would forever cherish with joy and boundless gratitude. It was the day they welcomed their eighth child and second daughter, their precious Karen Denise. Her arrival was a radiant blessing, filling their home with laughter and love. From the very beginning, Karen’s presence was a source of delight; her kind spirit, sharp mind, and ambitious nature shone brightly as she grew. She embraced life with curiosity and vigor, finding joy in music, books, and treasured moments spent with her family, fostering a loving bond that was unmatched.

Adventurous and friendly, she carried a warmth that drew others near, and her laughter became a melody that uplifted every room she entered. A part of her formative years was spent under the care of her maternal grandmother and matriarch, Rosemary Moore. These years nurtured her deep appreciation for family and led to special bonds with her aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially Aunty Thelma, Uncle Cornelius, and her cousin (sister) Rochelle.

A Time for Family

Family was the heartbeat of Karen’s life. From childhood, Karen shared an inseparable bond with her “one and only” sister, Portia, a connection that endured throughout their lives and remained unbroken until death. She often considered Portia’s sons as her own. Similarly, when Aniah was born, Portia would lovingly declare that the Lord had finally blessed her with a daughter. She poured herself into creating joyful memories for her nieces and nephews, treating them with motherly love and care. During her college years, she made summers unforgettable by taking them to various theme parks, ensuring there were games, laughter, and endless activities to make them happy.

Karen believed deeply in the importance of family gatherings and connections. Her home was often a place of welcome, where birthdays and holiday celebrations were joyfully hosted. Though she shared a close bond

with all her brothers, her relationship with Kevin held a particularly special place in her heart. Despite being part of a large family, Karen always felt cherished and unique because of the deep love she received from her parents. In her latter years, even while facing illness, she remained steadfast in caring for her mother, ensuring she felt valued and integral to the family unit. Karen’s devotion to family was unwavering, and her legacy of love, loyalty, and togetherness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to call her their own.

A Time to Learn

From her earliest days in school, Karen distinguished herself as a bright and determined student, consistently excelling at the top of her class. Her love for learning was coupled with a deep passion for excellence, and she pursued her studies with both discipline and enthusiasm. Beyond her academic achievements, Karen was known for the warmth and sincerity with which she engaged her professors and classmates, forming lasting relationships that reflected her genuine spirit of collaboration and respect. She carried this same commitment to BethuneCookman University, where she graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, leaving behind a legacy of friendship and admiration among peers and faculty.

Never content to stop learning, Karen went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the McHari Institute in Nassau, Bahamas. Her academic journey was not only a testament to her brilliance but also to her unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. She approached every opportunity to learn as a gift and every opportunity to teach or mentor as a responsibility. Karen’s pursuit of knowledge was inseparable from her desire to uplift others, making her not only an exemplary student but also a lifelong advocate for the value of education in shaping both individuals and communities.

A Time to Work

Karen’s professional journey was marked not only by excellence but by a profound love for her chosen field of Medical Laboratory Science. After obtaining her Florida License, she began her career as a generalist in the clinical laboratory, serving at Ormond Beach and Florida Hospitals. Upon returning home to the Bahamas, her career flourished at Princess Margaret Hospital, where she rose through the ranks from Senior Medical Technologist to Laboratory Supervisor, and ultimately to Acting Laboratory Manager in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Her leadership was defined by a desire to see her colleagues and staff recognized for the invaluable contributions they made to the medical arena. She championed the importance of laboratory professionals, ensuring that their work, often unseen, was honored as essential to the nation’s healthcare system.

Karen’s influence extended far beyond the hospital walls. She served faithfully as Chairperson of the Bahamas Association of Medical Technologists (BAMT). She represented the Bahamas as a Council Member of The Caribbean Association for Medical Technologists (CASMET), collaborating with professionals across the region. With over 25 years of technical and management experience, she

became a respected leader in quality and accreditation. In 2021, she fulfilled a personal dream by co-founding ATLAS Medical Laboratory, which offers comprehensive services to the community. Yet, her passion was not only for the present but for the future of her profession. Through initiatives such as Lab Week, Karen and her team held workshops in public spaces while simultaneously engaging audiences via radio and television. These initiatives sparked interest among young people and encouraged them to pursue careers in laboratory science. In every role, she worked with precision, expertise, and a heart committed to service, mentorship, and the advancement of healthcare.

John 4:24 God is a spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

A Time Worship

Karen’s life was a radiant testimony of her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Having made a commitment to the Lord as a young adult, she embraced a transformed life marked by prayer, love, and an unquenchable desire for God’s Word. Her intimacy with the Holy Spirit shaped her into a woman of purpose, one who spoke with kindness, listened with compassion, and extended grace freely as an Ambassador of Christ. Within The Christ Community Church, Karen’s gifts shone brightly: she sang joyfully with the CCC Singers, lent her creativity to choreographing and directing the GEMs Dance Group, and faithfully served in the John Care group. Her devotion was not limited to worship alone; she actively participated in the Community Outreach Ministry, embodying Christ’s call to serve others, and guided young women in the Awana Club, nurturing their spiritual growth and grounding them in the faith.

Her commitment to God’s work extended beyond her home church. Karen was honored to be recognized as an honorary member of New Life in Christ Ministries International, where her sister serves as Senior Pastor. She was often called upon to assist in various capacities during special church functions, and her dedication was celebrated through awards acknowledging her outstanding contributions. Whether singing in the Christ Community 30th Anniversary Choir, mentoring youth, or supporting ministry initiatives, Karen’s life reflected an unrelenting faithfulness to God. She lived intentionally, with a heart devoted to service, leaving behind a legacy of love, humility, and steadfast devotion to Christ that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

A Time to Love

In 1997, Karen’s heart was forever changed when she met the dashing officer and gentleman who would become her lifetime partner. Their love story culminated on July 6th, 2001, when Adalbert and Karen were united in holy matrimony. Together they spent 24 amazing years, a union filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering devotion, a bond that grew deeper and more beautiful with each passing year. Karen embraced her role as a dedicated wife, pouring her heart into building a home where love and faith were the foundation.

From this union, Karen was blessed with a daughter to cherish, Anthia Thompson. Her motherly instincts blossomed instantly, and she embraced Tia with a love that was both tender and steadfast. A profound bond was formed, one that reflected Karen’s nurturing spirit and unwavering devotion. She raised Tia in the fear and admonition of the Lord, guiding her with wisdom, prayer, and grace.

Karen’s dedication bore beautiful fruit as Tia grew into a strong, ambitious, and articulate woman. Alongside her husband, Tia has built a life firmly rooted in faith, making God the center of their home. For Karen, this was the greatest joy, to see the seeds of love and guidance flourish into a testimony of godly living, a reflection of the values she held dear.

The Lord, in His goodness, fulfilled Karen’s long-time dream of giving birth when, on December 26th, 2010, she was blessed with the precious gift of her second daughter, Aniah, whose very name means “God’s Gift.” From that moment, Karen’s world was transformed. Her love for Aniah was profound and life-shaping, becoming her greatest joy and purpose. She longed to give her the very best: a strong education, opportunities to explore the world, and above all, a deep and abiding relationship with the Lord. With intentional care, she enrolled Aniah in Spanish, gymnastics, swimming, ballet, and violin, ensuring her life was filled with experiences that would nurture her growth into a wellrounded young woman.

Karen’s heart and prayers remained steadfastly centered on seeing both Anthia and Aniah thrive, not only in their pursuits, but in living godly lives. Her love for them was immeasurable, her guidance intentional, and her devotion unshakable. In every way, Karen’s love for Adalbert and her daughters reflected her love for Christ: faithful, enduring, and full of grace. As Scripture reminds us, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward” (Psalm 127:3). Truly, Karen embraced that heritage with joy, raising her daughters in faith and love, leaving them a legacy that will endure for generations.

A Time to Transition

Over twenty years ago, Karen was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus. Yet she refused to let illness define her or diminish her joy. Fierce in her determination, she embraced a vegetarian lifestyle and remained steadfast in caring for her health. Her strength was admirable, her spirit unrelenting, and her faith unwavering. She lived each day with courage, choosing to shine brightly despite the challenges she faced.

On January 4th, Karen experienced complications from lupus that left her hospitalized. Just five days later, on January 9th, 2026, Karen Denise, a vibrant flower bursting with color and spontaneity, was gently picked from our earthly garden and carried into the presence of the Lord. As Scripture reminds us, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). Karen took her rest in the everlasting arms of the One she trusted with her whole being.

Welcome | Lady Edris Cunningham

Invocation | Elder Kino McCartney

Hymn | “How Great Thou Art”

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

(Chorus)

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander, And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees. When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think of Go d his son not sparing Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation, And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow, in humble adoration, And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.

(Chorus)

It is well, it is well, With my soul, with my soul, It is well; it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend Even so, it is well with my soul

SERVICE OF COMMITTAL

Opening Remarks | Elder Jeffrey Beckles

Reading of The Scriptures | John 14:1-3

Hymn | “Farther Along”

Tempted and tried, we’re oft made to wonder Why it should be thus all the day long, While there are others living about us, Never molested, though in the wrong.

(Chorus)

Farther along we’ll know all about it, Farther along we’ll understand why; Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine, We’ll understand it all by and by.

When death has come and taken our loved ones, It leaves our home so lonely and drear, Then do we wonder why others prosper Living so wicked year after year.

Faithful til death, said our loving Master A few more days to labor and wait, Toils of the road will then seem as nothing As we sweep through the beautiful gate.

When we see Jesus, coming in glory, When He comes from His home in the sky, Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion, We’ll understand it all by and by.

Hymn | "Glad Reunion Day”

There will be a happy meeting in heaven I know When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below. Gather on the blessed hilltops with hearts all aglow. That will be a glad reunion day.

(Chorus)

Glad day, a wonderful day, Glad day, a glorious day; There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay, That will be a glad reunion day.

There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice, Praising Christ the blessed Saviour with heart and with voice. Tell him how we came to love Him and make Him our choice. That will be a glad reunion day.

When we live a million years in that wonderful place Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face. It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace. That will be glad reunion day.

A Tribute to Nicey

I still can’t believe that you are not here.

You lived with passion, cared deeply for others, and loved with a whole and generous heart. Your presence brought comfort and light, and Your life reflected love in action.

You were deeply devoted to your work as a medical technologist. You took great pride in what You did, knowing that your skills, dedication, and attention to detail helped care for others—even when they never knew your name. Your work was more than a job; it was a calling. Through your hands and your knowledge, you served people with compassion, integrity, and quiet strength every single day.

Your strong Christian faith was the foundation of your life. You loved God deeply and lived out your faith through kindness, service, and grace. You didn’t just speak about your beliefs— You showed them in how you treated others, how you worked, and how you loved. Your faith guided you, sustained you, and inspired everyone who knew you.

Family meant everything to you, and you showed that love through your constant support, quiet sacrifices, and the way you made everyone feel safe and cared for.

Though our hearts are broken, your love remains with us always. I will always remember your beautiful spirit, your devotion to family, and the legacy of kindness you leave behind. You will be deeply missed by us and forever cherished.

Your loving husband Anthony!

To My Mother,

On my sixteenth birthday, you gave me more than a blessing you gave me a foundation. Your words taught me how to walk gently yet firmly in a world that is not always kind. You showed me the power of respect, the courage it takes to speak the truth, and the importance of knowing my worth even when others fail to see it.

Because of you, I learned that strength can live alongside grace, that forgiveness is not weakness, and that I never need to shrink myself to make others comfortable. You reminded me to dream boldly, to trust God’s timing, and to believe that my life carries purpose beyond what I can see in the moment.

Even now, your voice echoes in the choices I make, the standards I keep, and the faith I hold onto. I strive to live with integrity, patience, and love because you planted those seeds in me first. I am still becoming, still growing but I walk forward guided by your wisdom and covered by your love.

This is for you, my mother, my teacher, my light, my legacy. Everything I am, and everything I hope to be, is rooted in you.

Your Baby girl, Niah

To My Mommy,

With a heart that is both broken and full of love, I honor the life of my mother—a devoted wife, a loving and selfless mother, a caregiver, and a friend to all who knew her.

To me, she was affectionately known as my Honey boo boo, a name that reflects the warmth and love she gave so freely. My mother was family-oriented, kindhearted, prayerful, loving, and funny. She took great pride in being first and foremost a devoted wife to my father, and together they built a home grounded in love and faith for both my sister and I.

She was a fantastic mother—present, nurturing, and endlessly supportive. She was always in my corner and always a listening ear, offering encouragement, comfort, and unwavering love. Known for her caring spirit, she would give her very last without hesitation and had a rare ability to make everyone feel special, as though they were her only friend.

Mommy loved to travel and embraced every opportunity to see the world. I will definitely miss you sending your photos while traveling and video calling me to see your room! Even through her health challenges, she never allowed them to stop her from living life fully. She chose joy, experiences, and meaningful memories. Trevaughn and I will be taking that Alaskan cruise in your honor! We had so many trips planned mommy but the Lord gave you the best vacation of all. I so long to hear your voice calling me in your best British voice of course, saying “My darling daughter”.

Her prayers were constant, her love unconditional, and her laughter, oh that wonderful laughter.. uplifting. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, resilience, and unconditional love—a legacy that will live on in my heart forever.

Though my heart aches in her absence, I find comfort in knowing she is now resting peacefully with her beloved grandchildren, Bliss and Hope, wrapped in perfect love and peace.

Honey boo boo, thank you for being my mother, my friend, and one of my greatest blessings. I will miss you more than words can ever express.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Never forgotten. Until we meet again!

Your Darling Daughter, TT

“MY

ONE AND ONLY SISTER”

“SISTER” ~ “MY ANGEL”

This is the first time in my life that you are happy and I am sad!

We loved each other so much that your joy was my joy and my pain was your pain. Our love was an unselfish one and so I will do my best to dry my tears and be happy as you take your well deserved rest that you are presently enjoying.

You have always been my number one fan, my confidant, my encourager. You believed so much in me and I in you.

God could not have given me a better person for a sister. We moved mountains for each other and even though we had many people in our circles, it never

affected our relationship or love for each other. You were a mother to my children and I became a mother to your children. We never missed an opportunity to share in each other’s accomplishments. You were the first one I would call to share my joy or pain, our jokes we could not wait to share with each other.

It will be so hard to celebrate with you not being here but I know you would want me to continue to enjoy my special moments as you always only wanted the best for me.

I will forever hold you close in my heart and love you always.

My Angel, you have taken wings and is now absent from that earthly house and is present with the Lord.

Sleep on until we meet again.

Your “One and Only” Sister Pastor Portia Ferguson

To my beloved Mum,

From the very moment you met me, you accepted me as one of your own—without judgment—and that is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I never saw you as my mother-in-law, but as my mother, just as you saw me as your son. You gave me a mother’s love that I never experienced growing up, and for that, I will always be grateful.

Though the time you were part of my life was short, it filled the years I lived without a motherly presence. Thank you for your prayers, your encouragement, and your unwavering support. Somehow, you knew I was the one for your Tia even before I did.

My heart is heavy as I come to terms with the reality that you will no longer be coming down those stairs during our visits, greeting us with, “My son, my daughter.” This was the year we planned to be intentional about creating more memories together, and now I am left holding only the beautiful ones we already made.

Continue to rest in peace, Mum. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.

-Your Son

My Niecy!!!

That’s what I called you because to me you were mine, my gift, my big sister God gave to me. And I was always your RoRo!!! I have loved and cherished you from the time I came into this world. You were my first babysitter, my tutor, my super model (because you looked great in everything) my counselor, my prayer warrior, my best friend because I could tell you anything! I could never do any wrong in your eyes, you loved me unconditionally. I never understood how you moved between two different countries and still managed to be present for all of my milestones in life. My Superwoman, My SHERO!

You encouraged me to love, have faith in God, and face my fears head on. Let’s face it, I was a big scary cat and crybaby growing up, but you refused to let me back down from any challenge. Now I’m faced with the biggest challenge ever and that’s saying goodbye to you. I’ll carry you in my heart always in everything I do and any place I venture. I love you more than any words written here.

My Niecy, My Sister, My bestfriend, until we meet again…. Me and you us never part…. Me and you us have one heart… ain’t no ocean, ain’t no sea… could keep my sister away from me.

Love you always, your RoRo/little sis.

Best Friends

My best friend KK, as I affectionately called her, was one of a kind. To know her is to love her. Karen touched the lives of all she came in contact with and left a lasting impression. Karen would stand in the gap for anyone, by being supportive, offering words of encouragement and covering them in prayer. She was humble, genuine, loving and kind.

Karen was more like a sister to me than a friend, through the joy, laughter, hurt and pain we were always there for each other. KK I miss you so much, you were truly a gift in my life and I will forever cherish the memories that we shared. You are now in the arms of Jesus. Take you well deserved rest. I love you my KK, but God loves you best. Until we meet again, I say for now farewell.

From your best friend Sybilina

Tribute for My Forever Best Friend

It feels surreal to be penning these words for your obituary. How can I say “goodbye” to someone with whom I never finished saying “hello”? No words can capture the depth of the void your absence has left in my life. I miss our marathon phone calls, those sacred hours filled with laughter, dreams, prayers, and conversations about the promises we were believing in God for. We shared countless reflections on His word, and in those moments, you were more than a friend; you were my exhorter, my spiritual sister, and a voice of wisdom. For four decades, you walked beside me as my best friend, and that bond will remain etched in my heart forever.

Although I am saddened beyond measure, I thank God for the time we did have: growing into womanhood together, celebrating major milestones, and walking through life’s joys and challenges. It was no coincidence that we were “birthday twins; God's handprint was in this friendship, and September 9th will never be the same without you.

Each day, I am praying for the peace of God to fill me, even as I hold tightly to the memories we shared. I know that your commitment to God means you are now enjoying realities that those of us in the faith are still looking forward to. I will always miss you; until we meet again, rest in peace, my forever “bestie”.

Odyessa
