ObituaryM

onday, 11th September 1978 was a quiet time in the country when Kendra made her grand entrance into the world. However, this day was an exciting time for the newlyweds Kenneth Hart and MaryAnn Simmons as they welcomed their healthy, beautiful and bouncing baby girl to the family. In the excitement of her arrival, Kendra was originally named “Kendelie”, but her proud daddy ensured the record reflected his little princess’ royal heritage and renamed her “Kendra,” which means “royal power,” immediately following this discovery. As Kendra grew up, she took her role as the matriarch of the 2nd Generation seriously as she blossomed into a Proverbs 31 woman.

Kendra’s purpose, creativity and leadership qualities began to manifest from a very early age.

Her dad a strong advocate for Christian education, enrolled Kendra into Temple Christian School Nursery where she was among the first students of the new Christian school. He took delight in helping groom his first born by committing to school drop-offs and pickups every day of Kendra’s school life from nursery through high school. These special rides gave Kendra and her dad the opportunity to talk about any subject and develop a strong father/daughter bold over the years. Kendra remained on the Honor Roll throughout her time at Temple Christian and had her first opportunity at leadership roles in high school. She was a school prefect, member of the Student Counsel Movement, Science and Beta Girls Clubs. Kendra was recognized as Most Improved Student, awarded a Long-term Service Award from TCS, honored as Most Outstanding Student in Bahamian High School and Colleges in

1993 and 1995; and graduated as her High School Valedictorian. Her defining leadership role was Class President on Graduating Committee for the TCSs first 12 Grade Class of 1996, this would be her first major planning event. Among the activities planned was college hunting for her and fellow graduates for College Weekend at Oral Roberts University where her aunt Judy hosted them for the College Weekend.

Kendra shared an equally special relationship with her mom, MaryAnn who fully equipped Kendra with all her homemaking skills. MaryAnn did not spear Kendra any lesson on running the home and ensured she had excellent domestic skills along with her formal education. Baking, cooking, laundry, caring for younger siblings, home decorating you name it, MaryAnn taught her firstborn; and Kendra learned every lesson in excellence! Ask any family members what was Kendra’s signature dishes they would say BBQ ribs with her special sauce, macaroni and cheese (with a secret twist), red velvet cupcakes, coconut tarts, rum cake, cheese cake, guava duff and bread rolls. Kendra surpassed her mom’s lessons in many of the dishes and pastries. Home training really prepared Kendra for her life ahead. She had wonderful plans for her future and knew everything she was being taught at home would equip her to be the best wife and mother someday.

Kendra went on to pursue her higher education at Galilee College and Palm Beach Atlantic College (PBA). She had chosen her profession and pursued her preparation with posthaste. Kendra graduated from Galilee College with a Diploma in Business and Accounting. Her initial studies at PBA earned her a Bachelor of Science Degree with a double major in Finance and Marketing in 2001. There was no stopping for Kendra, she immediately enrolled in Graduate School

at PBA and earned her Master of Business Administration with specialization in Accounting and Finance in 2003. She continued her extracurricular while at PBA as a member of Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society and PBA Alumni Association and was honored Sigma Beta Delta in 2003. Kendra understood the value of being prepared for life ahead and fully applied herself to learn the skills necessary for the quality of life she desired for herself.

While at PBA Kendra got her first opportunity of being solely responsible for running the house. Her younger brother Kenton was enrolled at PBA and Kendra had to setup a home away from home. She had to find suitable accommodations for her and her little brother. Then, her homemaking skills really got put to the test. Kenton got tired of chicken, shrimp, pork and beef Ramen Noodles and was ready for some real Bahamian food. So, Kendra had to dig deep and wipe up some home cooked meals so Kenton could finally settle down and focus on his studies. Truth be told, Kenton was the first taste tester of Kendra’s dishes and provided the necessary hit or miss feedback she needed. Kendra

ensured Kenton had company to finish his first degree, by continuing with her second degree.

The time came to return home and make a valuable contribution and Kendra enthusiastically started her job hunting. But there was one challenge she faced, she was 25 with a Master’s Degree and kept being told she was over-qualified. Kendra then taught outside the box and applied for positions not disclosing her Master’s Degree and landed her first job at Electro Telecom Ltd. where she worked for one year. She later was employed at Bahamas Electricity Corporation (now Bahamas Power and Light) where she would meet the love of her life DeAngelo.

Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) now Bahamas Power & Light (BPL) would become the perfect profession for Kendra and also delivered to her perfect love!

Love at first sight is easy to understand; it’s when two people have been looking for each other for a lifetime, then the miracle happens when God allowed their paths to cross. When DeAngelo first laid eyes on Kendra in BPL’s parking lot, he said she was the epitome of his soul mate and future wife and he began his pursuit. DeAngelo and Kendra’s friendship sparked the wife and mother qualities within Kendra. This couple whose match was made in Heaven began their romance in 2011. This decade long love affair would tap hidden qualities in both of them. DeAngelo witnessed Kendra’s transformation! He says she was selfless, forgiving, creative, fashionable, glamourous, socially conscious, a humanitarian, philanthropist and deeply concerned about the state of the world and truly a Proverbs 31 woman. DeAngelo believes Kendra made the best Banana Bread ever!

Kendra and DeAngelo’s wedding in 2017 would become Kendra’s momentous event! She did not leave anything about this very important event in her life to chance, she planned every aspect to precision starting one year ahead of time. Kendra drew on every ounce of creativity she had to ensure thier important milestone would be remembered for a lifetime. Not knowing this lifetime would last only four years, Kendra and DeAngelo’s marriage was full and complete. They wasted no time setting up their family bringing all their past life trophies together into one big happy family. Kendra immediately began mothering her three sons with great pride and joy. Jaden, DJ and Karter were truly loved by Kendra and she was involved in every aspect of their lives at home, school, Church and play. Helping the boys with their school projects was one of Kendra’s favorite times with her sons. She would video tape every project activity and even Karter’s vocabulary homework sessions. Jaden’s marine conservation project video is a must see, as Kendra conducts her interview with Captain Kyle on the importance of preserving marine life!

October 2020 brought with it thick dark clouds for Kendra when she first heard the results of a biopsy test for Cancer. But this did not shake her faith in God and her beloved husband DeAngelo never left her side. As the spiritual leader in the home, DeAngelo ensured Kendra kept her focus on Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior every step of the way. He gave Kendra his full support and love throughout her treatments in the months that followed. This health challenge truly revealed the love Kendra and DeAngelo shared with each other. Kendra could not have asked God for a better soul mate to take this road not travelled,

than DeAngelo. He covered his wife in prayer and anointed her with oil daily and gave her everything her heart desired to help make her comfortable. However, understanding that the end was near after speaking with Kendra’s doctors on 18th January,2022, DeAngelo had to do the hardest thing he was ever called upon to do, that was to release his wife and soul mate Kendra from her pain and suffering, to their Heavenly Father to take her to her Heavenly home. Can you watch with me awhile? Best describes Kendra and DeAngelo final hours together at Baptist Hospital. DeAngelo never left her side and told Kendra how much he loved her and that he understood she had to leave him under the circumstances. He thanked her for loving and caring for him so much during their time together. Wednesday, 19th January, 2022 was the last day Kendra called her husband’s name for the very last time, she said very softly “DeAngelo, DeAngelo, DeAngelo…” Kendra fought a good fight and God has called Kendra home to her eternal rest. May Kendra’s Soul Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory!

OPENING SENTENCES:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your hearts be troubles neither let it be afraid.”

Opening Hymn | And Can It Be

And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior’s blood? Died He for me who caused His pain! For me who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above, So free, so infinite His grace! Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race. ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray; I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine; Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach the eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own

Response | Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

Congregational Hymn | When We All Get To Heaven

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace; In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place Thou, my God, should die for me?

Chorus

When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!

While we walk the pilgrim pathway Clouds will overspread the sky; But when travelling days are over Not a shadow, not a sigh.

Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving every day; Just one glimpse of Him in glory Will the toils of life repay.

Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold; Soon the pearly gates will openWe shall tread the streets of gold.

Recessional Hymn | Glad Reunion Day

GRAVESIDE HYMNS

THAT GLAD REUNION DAY

There will be a happy meeting in heaven I know

When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below

Gather on the blessed hill-tops with hearts all aglow

That will be a glad reunion day

Chorus

Glad day a wonderful day

Glad day a glorious day

There with all the holy angels’ And loved ones to stay

That will be a glad reunion day

There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice

Praising Christ the blessed Savior with heart and with voice

Tell Him how we came to love Him and make Him our choice

That will be a glad reunion day

When we live a million years in that wonderful place

Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face

It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace

That will be a glad reunion day

CITY OF GOLD

There’s a city of light

Where there cometh no night

Tis a city of beauty untold

All my treasures are there

And its beauty I’ll share

When I get to that city of gold

Chorus

When I leave all trouble and care I will say good morning up there I will have great gladness untold When I get to that city of gold

There’s no sorrow up there

In that city so fair

And no sickness can enter I’m told Shadows all will have flown I will meet friends I’ve known When I get to that city of gold

Won’t you go there with me

To the home of the free

Would you see heaven’s beauty unfold

If you will come along

We will sing heaven; song When we get to that city of gold.

TO MY WIFE UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

Those special memories of you will always bring a smile If only I could have you back for just a little while Then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do You always meant so very much and always will do too The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause me pain But you’re forever in my heart until we meet again.

Your Husband - DeAngelo

AN ANGEL…. OUR MOM… KENDRA HARTBROWN

Mommy, we hide our tears when we say your name, But the pain in our heart is still the same. Although we smile and seem carefree, There is NO ONE who misses you more than, we.

It is so hard to imagine life without you. You taught us love, patience and kindness. You taught us how to pray and led by example. You praised us whenever we did good and pointed out our mistakes with that gentle voice. You encouraged us to work hard in school and taught us how to read and write. We still remember your voice as you read us bedtime stories. We think about you every day.

You were so very supportive of every basketball practice and basketball practice always cheering us on. You were caring, kind and patient and taught us how to be the same. You made sure that we had everything we could possibly want or need and still did not spoil us rotten. You instilled values and morals in us that will carry through from toddler, to teenage to manhood.

You were certainly an angel here on earth and we are happy that you were and are, our angel. Your life is an example for us and we will be sure to make you proud, with each milestone of our life; college, marriage and fatherhood. While we have so many questions of why, one thing we do know, as you have taught us - God does all things well and works all things together for our good and His glory. Sleep on our beautiful angel, our mother. We love you and miss you.

Forever in our hearts, Kyle (Jayden), Karter and D.J.

FORGOTTEN

I think of things you used to say And all that you would do. At some point, every single day, My thoughts will turn to you.
To lose you was a bitter wrench, The pain cut to my core, I cried until my tears ran out And then I cried some more. This wouldn’t be your wish for me That I’d be forever sad So I try to remind myself Of the times we had.
I know I can’t be with you now, And you can’t be with me, But safe inside my heart you’ll stay That’s where you’ll always be.

Iwrite this with great sadness over the unimaginable loss of my close friend.

Kendra and I met as employees at the Bahamas Power and Light Company. We became close friends that turned into sisters. Visiting each other’s home and sharing confidential information from our first boy crush to our first date. We enjoyed each other’s company and when we were not together we spent countless hours texting each other and sending silly selfies that made us laugh until our stomach’s hurt. We shared information about our plans for the future, and how we were prepared to exceed regardless of opposition. A sure friend that stuck closer than a brother.

Kendra was beautiful inside and out. She was a true fashionista and diva, always dressed from head to toe. Her nails painted, makeup done like she had come to steal the show, and that she did.

An impeccable and selfless mother to her three children, Kendra was admired for the way she cared for her family. I respected the way she loved her husband and spoke so highly of him.

Her positivity was an inspiration to everyone she met. She was a friend to many, and we will all miss her warm and infectious smile and her endearing personality. Kendra you were a hard worker with an admirable spirit. Thank you for the moments we’ve shared, our dreams and wishes, secrets, laughter, and tears. Above all, thank you for the friendship we shared.

Your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Kendra, my dear friend, you are forever in my heart,

Your beloved friend Dara.

TO MY DAUGHTER KENDRA

Life would never be the same with you gone. My dear daughter, I loved you darling more than you ever knew. You will forever be in my heart. I never dreams that I would lose you this young. All I can say is God why? Especially with Jadien and Karter being so very young. You would always ask me to give you my blessings for you to look young like me when you reach my age. And that’s how I thought it would have been between us. I told you yes you were going to look young and beautiful just like your mom. My favorite saying “forever young” and that’s who you were young and beautiful. I would never forget you darling for you were my first child. I am so truly sadden by your passing it just seems so unbelievable.

FOREVER IN MY HEART Mommy

Ithought about so many things as I held tightly to your hand, oh how I wished that you were strong and happy once again.

But your eyes were looking homeward to that place beyond the sky, where Jesus held His outstretched arms, it was time to say goodbye.

I struggled with my selfish thoughts for I wanted you to stay, so we could walk and talk again, like we did…just yesterday.

But Jesus knew the answer and I knew you loved Him so. So I gave to you life’s greatest gift, the gift of letting go.

Rest in Peace Fuffa,

Love always, Kenton

TO MY SISTER

Kendra, I honestly have no words. Even though I was late to the party I couldn’t have asked to be into a family with a better set of siblings. All of the memories, the love, the laughter, the phone calls, Kendra I will miss it all.

From sharing a bedroom to wearing your clothes and you rowing of course, having you do my hair, going out for your birthdays, your college graduations, watching you walk down the aisle, family grill and chills with that famous macaroni and those cinnamon rolls. I can’t imagine this life without you Kendra but I’m glad I got the chance to experience it with you. You were an important piece to our puzzle that will now be missing. You were nothing short of a what a big sister should be like. You was the best aunt to my kids and you loved them like your own. I will forever be grateful for that. You always showed up and never expected anything in return. You weren’t only a big sister but you were a friend.

When you got sick I cried for days asking God why but God knew best and you fought hard Ken. The past year and a half it was like you had moved in all over again. I walk through the door every day hoping you would be home when I get there but God decided to call you home instead.

I will love you till my last breath. The Fantastic Four will never be the same. No more pain, no more suffering...

Forever and always, in this life and the next Your little sister, Kristen.

TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR SISTER

I remember the days of our youth like it was yesterday. You and I always stuck close, showing each other love and respect, in all that we did together and for each other. I always knew this day would come when one of us would leave each other here. ”Tetra”, it hurts me to know that you left me here so early, but you know that your Lil-Big bro will continue to stand strong here until we meet again. I love you and will always be with you in spirit!!

Rest up sis, Blessed!

OUR BELOVED KENDRA

You were always loved and treasured by this whole family, always beautiful as can be. It broke my heart dearly to lose you the day God took you home. If only we could bring you back again. You will always have a place in my heart, that no-one else can fill.

Honey

TRIBUTE TO MY AUNT

Kendra, there are honestly no words to describe how much I miss you. To me, you were more than just an aunt, you were my sister, a mentor and confidant, but most of all you were my closest friend.

Like a sister, always holding my hand as you watched me grow up and helped to shape me into who I am.

Like a mentor, you gave me guidance, motivation and emotional support. You encouraged me to reach my goals academically and personally.

Like a confidant, you entrusted me with your secrets as I did with you. You were there for me at any given time of the day no questions asked.

To everyone, she was known for her impeccable beauty, however, to me she was so much more. Kendra was the epitome of selfless, intelligent, humble, kind, strong as ever and most of all, she was one of the most courageous and genuine individuals inside and out.

I’m so grateful that our small family was able to create laseting memories in our home. I’m even more grateful that God loaned you to us for the last 40+ years, being able to hear your voice, laugh and see your beautiful smile was truly a gift.

Kendra, with you no longer here will forever cause me pain, but you will undoubtedly always be in my heart, until we meet again.

I love you.

-Your Netra
