13TH PEDIATRIC FUNDAMENTAL CRITICAL CARE SUPPORT

Sindh Institute of Child Health & Neonatology (SICHN), in collaboration with PFCCS and AKUH, hosted a two-day comprehensive course on the 13th Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS) course The event featured lectures and hands-on sessions that addressed fundamental management principles for managing critically ill pediatric patients

SICHN, leading the early childhood initiative in Sindh in collaboration with UNICEF, is making strides in development Recently, UNICEF team, including Jhon Thomas, Anteneh Girma Minas, Prem Bahadur Chand, Dr Mazhar Iqbal, and Bilal Khalid, visited the ECD center and appreciated SICHN's impactful work as their partner in Sindh

The International Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics has published a pivotal research article, "Prevalence, Risk Factors, and Outcomes of Acute Kidney Injury in Critically Ill Children with Hematological Malignancies," featuring contributions from Dr Anwar ul Haq and lead author Dr Sartaj Aijaz 1

BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS WALK IN LARKANA

Prof Jamal Raza, Executive Director of SICHN, led the Breastfeeding Awareness Walk at Sheikh Zayed Hospital for Women, Larkana. The event aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of breastfeeding in promoting newborn health, educating families on its numerous lifelong benefits and encouraging community support for breastfeeding mothers

At the Breastfeeding Awareness session in Sukkur, Dr Shahid Raza, COO of SICHN, and Dr Iqrar Ali, Head of Neonatology at Children Hospital Sukkur, shared their profound insights on breastfeeding. The session empowered mothers with hands-on training, guiding them in the nurturing practice of feeding their newborns, fostering healthier beginnings

Prof Fahmina Arif, Consultant Pediatrician, delivered an enlightening session on "Malnutrition in Children" at SICHN Children's Hospital, Korangi 5 Doctors and trainee fellows benefited immensely from her vast experience, gaining crucial insights to tackle malnutrition and improve pediatric care The session emphasized the importance of early intervention and evidence-based practices in combating this critical issue

Prof. Jamal Raza, along with Ms. Anum Shakeel, Head of Media, appeared on Metro One News' "Muskurati Morning" with host Arsala to discuss the impactful work SICHN is doing for the children of Sindh They highlighted key initiatives focused on improving pediatric healthcare, emphasizing SICHN’s commitment to advancing child health and ensuring accessible treatment for all children in the region

WE PERFORMED OUR FIRST-EVER BONE MARROW BIOPSY ON A CHILD, MARKING A SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT IN PEDIATRIC CARE.

BRIEF ON IPC PROTOCOLS AT SICHN

A 4-day IPC training hosted by IHHN at Children’s Hospital Korangi 5 gathered participants from various public health facilities, including SICHN doctors and staff After the training, external participants visited SICHN to observe its IPC practices Shahzad Ayub and Project Coordinator Farah Shakir from IHHN commended SICHN's efforts, while Amjad Ali from SICHN’s Infection Disease Department provided insights into the hospital's effective IPC protocols

ADDRESSING CHILDHOOD DEPRESSION ON NATIONAL TV

Our clinical psychologist, Marvi Soomro, recently appeared on Dharti TV, where she shared her expert views on children's mental health, focusing on depression During the program, she emphasized the importance of early intervention, providing valuable advice to parents and caregivers on recognizing signs of mental health issues and offering support Her insights aimed to empower families to address these challenges and create a nurturing environment for young minds to thrive

SICHN CONCLUDES 1-YEAR TECHNICIAN COURSE

SICHN successfully conducted the 1-Year Technician course, culminating in the final term exams Our experts, including Dr Tasmeena, Dr Azeem, Dr Salima, Head Nurse Niaz, Maria, Alex, and Lab Incharge Ms Nosheen, rigorously evaluated the students' essential skills

PATIENT’S PARENT PERSPECTIVE: FROM PARALYSIS TO WALKING AGAIN

With tears in her eyes, a mother reflects on her son’s painful journey at SICHN Children’s Hospital Korangi, where severe fever led to paralysis She felt helpless, fearing the worst However, thanks to Dr Lajwanti's expert care and intensive physiotherapy, her son has regained strength and is now a normal, active child, bringing overwhelming joy to her heart.

An Early Childhood Development (ECD) training session was conducted at SICHN Children's Hospital Korangi, facilitated by teams from UNICEF and AKUH in collaboration with SICHN This initiative reflects SICHN's commitment to staff training and development, enhancing their skills to provide better care for children in need

MOU SIGNING BETWEEN SICHN AND PMSG

MoU was signed between the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) and PRIME Medical Specialists Group (PMSG) Prof Jamal Raza, Executive Director of SICHN, and Shafiq Hyder Musavi, President of PMSG, signed the agreement, witnessed by Dr Shahid Raza, Chief Operating Officer of SICHN, and Anum Shakeel, Head of Communications and Media at SICHN This MoU aims to initiate Clubfoot surgical and rehabilitation services across the province of Sindh

A Korean delegation from the Korean Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), led by Ms Min Sang Hee & Jin-Won Noh, visited SICHN Children's Hospital Korangi 5 They were welcomed by the SICHN team During the visit, the delegation toured the facilities and provided insights on KOFIH's training initiatives for healthcare professionals in various countries

WORLD PHYSICAL THERAPY DAY 2024

At SICHN, we are proud to feature Dr Lajwanti, a highly skilled physiotherapist A graduate of Ziauddin University (2021), Dr Lajwanti is registered with the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) and has extensive experience in various ICUs, outpatient clinics, and specialized areas. Since joining SICHN in 2023, she has treated over 4,000 patients from across Pakistan With advanced training and hands-on workshops, Dr Lajwanti has helped transform patients' lives from dependency to independence through her expertise and compassionate care.

World Physical Therapy Day, celebrated on September 8th, highlights the vital role of physical therapy in helping children overcome injuries, disabilities, or developmental delays This essential care enhances their independence, mobility, and overall well-being, ensuring they lead healthier, more active lives At SICHN Children's Hospital, we proudly share inspiring stories like that of Emaan Her mother had lost hope that her daughter would ever walk due to her weak lower limbs However, with the unwavering support and dedication of Dr Lajwanti, our skilled physiotherapist, Emaan can now stand and walk independently, marking a remarkable achievement in her recovery journey
