On 26th December 2024, a quiet yet transformative milestone wasachievedasSICHNIntensiveCareUnitsatInstituteofMother and Child Health Nawabshah operationalized with 60 bedded NICU and PICU In a region where access to specialized neonal and pediatric critical care was once limited, this marked the beginning of renewed hope Within just over a year, more than 5,000 children have received life saving care, including patients from across Sindh and Balochistan, positioning Shaheed Benazirabadasacriticalinterprovinciallifeline.

Nawabshah, at the heart of Shaheed Benazirabad, serves a rapidly growing population burdened by neonatal mortality, preventable infections, respiratory illnesses, and delayed referrals For many families, timely access to advanced health careremaineduncertain

Today, SICHN’s Intensive Care Units are transforming that dream into reality Equipped with 40 beds NICU and 20 Bed PICU, advanced technology, ventilatory support, and a highly skilled team, the unit is not only treating patients, it is giving children a secondchanceatlife.

Behind these numbers are stories of courage and care

A fragile preterm newborn from Balochistan arrived in critical condition and was placed on a ventilator. With continuous monitoring and dedicated NICU care under Dr Muhammad Usman, the baby recovered after a monthandwenthomestable,carryingrenewedhopefor thefamily.

Athreeyearoldgirl,unabletomoveduetoAcuteFlaccid Paralysis, spent 40 days in care supported by nurses, physiotherapists, and her family. She walked out smiling, amomentthatreflectedresilienceandexpertcare

Afiveyearoldboyfromaremotevillagefoughtasevere case of tetanus, requiring prolonged ventilation and intensive support Weeks later, he was discharged breathingindependently,aremarkablerecovery

Huma arrived struggling for every breath with severe respiratory illness Through timely intervention and continuous PICU care, she gradually improved and returnedhomestable.
