RUGBY SEVENS 2020 The Sibford Rugby Sevens tournament kicked off on Tuesday with 20 teams competing in the U12 boys competition, followed by an exciting afternoon of matches for the girls competition on Wednesday. Huge congratulations to our U13 girls who were the joint plate winners. Special mention also goes to our U12 boys team who topped their group but were unfortunately beaten in the quarter finals of the cup.

SILVER AWARD FOR ECO GROUP Sibford Eco Group are thrilled to say that we now have our SILVER award and are mere steps away from achieving our green flag status. We hope to keep you updated on this progress in coming weeks. This week we would like to make you aware of our recycling drop off points in school; We are a textile recycling facility and have a large blue drop off bin by the swimming pool. This bin accepts clothing and paired shoes. These are collected and taken to a facility where they are reused or repurposed. We recycle clean crisp packets which are then taken to a drop off in Banbury. We recycle batteries and ink cartridges. We are just starting a writing instrument recycling programme. All of these items are sent back to be reused or repurposed either by the manufacturer or by Terracycle. We hope to keep you filled in with the amount we have saved from landfill over the coming months. Our Eco committee meets twice a term and is expanding fast with parents, staff and even more students coming on board. TALKS FROM 'ELEVATE EDUCATION' Information for Year 10 and Year 11 parents/guardians. Guest speakers from ‘Elevate Education’ will be delivering a workshop session to all our Year 10 pupils during their PSHE lesson on Friday 20th March. They will learn a range of revision techniques, study skills, methods of time management and study routines. In addition, there will also be a seminar for parents/guardians on the same day, to be held in the Oliver Studio from 4.45pm until 5.45pm. This will provide practical guidance on how best to support pupils with their study at home and through the exam period. This seminar will also cover distractions including technology as well as how to prepare effectively across the year. There will be no charge for this after school workshop; all Year 10 and Year 11 parents/guardians are invited to attend. Senior School Newsletter FIVE QUESTIONS WITH... OUR CATERING MANAGER! Chris Lee recently joined Sibford School as Catering Manager. As part of our new 'Five questions with...' feature, we get to know him a little better. Can you tell us a bit about your background? I have worked as a chef for the last 26 years! I am a FA (football association) level 2 qualified football coach and run a local grassroots football club. I have 3 children aged 13, 11 and 9. You have been at Sibford for a few weeks now, how are you finding it? I am really enjoying working at Sibford, everyone has been so welcoming and friendly. It has helped me settle in very well. What’s the best part of your job? Making people happy through food! I enjoy keeping up to date with current food trends and thinking of new ideas. My team at Sibford are a great bunch and we have fun while working! What is your signature dish at home? I like to smoke my own meats and BBQ when possible. I love having friends round and sharing food. What would your dream three course meal be? I would love to eat a three course meal at a top restaurant. There is too much to choose from now!

THE SIBFORD BOARDING BULLETIN! It has been a week of celebrations with two big birthday parties in the houses. Our boarding captain, India, turns eighteen over exeat weekend and wanted to have an event in the house for all her friends in the boarding community. With plenty of food, card games and a scary film, it was a fantastic way to unwind in the middle of the working week. Similarly, there was a lovely get-together for Ayui’s birthday in Margaret Fell with some delicious cake and great gestures of support from her friends. We all wish them both a happy birthday and a wonderful year ahead! Our KS3 boarders had an enjoyable night making milkshakes on Monday and relishing their creations in a friendly social atmosphere in the common room afterwards too. On Tuesday they had an active night of sports and games on site, followed by a fun swimming session in the pool on Wednesday. Our older boarders have been making the most of the opportunities available to them too, with a trip to the gym and retail park on Tuesday and a night on the climbing wall on Thursday. As well as testing their skills on the wall, there was lots of fun and laughter in a series of expertly led games by our climbing instructor, John. We are looking forward to our optional exeat weekend ahead and having an entertaining time with those who are spending the exeat with us on campus.
