DEAR PARENTS While the wintry weather outside, the frosty dusting to countryside this morning and the impending drop in temperatures, tells me that we have reached the end of term it still feels as though September was only yesterday! The term feels like it has flown past and yet we have achieved an awful lot. In Meeting for Worship on Tuesday I called upon Key Stage 2 to reflect upon what they can now do and now know that they didn’t at the beginning of term, while at the same time looking forward to what they might have accomplished by Easter: very much wearing the two faces of Janus after whom next month is named! This week has been as busy as any of the term – a fitting way to finish – with end of term assessments carried out, sporting competitions and the small matter of our five shows of A Little Bird Told Me and Bookbound. Clearly, I’m going to be a little biased, but I thought the children were fantastic with each performance better than the previous. We hope soon to send out the link for the videos of the plays, however we have included some of the photos here to whet the appetite. A big thank you to all of you for your support in helping the children learn their lines and sorting out their costumes and of course to the children themselves for their hard work.

I’m also pleased to report that we raised nearly £600 for Action for Children – this will make the lives of some other children just that little bit happier.
As a warm-up to their final performance, KS2 travelled to Oxford on Wednesday morning to watch The Snow Queen at the North Wall Arts Centre. It was a very entertaining production full of comedy, drama and interesting choreography – it even finished with a giant snowball fight! While the rest of Key Stage 2 were in Oxford at the theatre, Jago travelled to Radley College to take part in the County cross-country finals. Out of a field of over 100 runners who had qualified through the three previous rounds, I am delighted to say that he finished a very impressive 9th. This is all the more outstanding as most of the children he was up against were a year older than him. Earlier in the week the boys of Year 4, 5 and 6 took part in our annual Jonny Wilkinson Goal Kicking competition. It was conducted in particularly challenging conditions – I’m not sure Jonny himself will ever have contended with such a crosswind – but the boys performed admirably (when they managed to keep their balls on the tees!) Junior School Newsletter Friday 13 December 2019 Thursday saw no let-up in the busy diary with Year 5 and 6 taking part in the school’s version of the General Election. I can report, as the returning officer, that the Green party swept to power with a narrow majority: · Green Party 23 · Conservative 9 · Liberal Democrats 7 · Labour 3 Given that they were “voting blind” for anonymised parties, I am certainly impressed with the environmental consciousness that they have all shown. I wonder if this will be reflected in the real thing. Fresh from the polling booths after lunch, the children prepared for their class Christmas parties. Games were played, snacks were voraciously consumed and a certain man in a red outfit paid us a visit (interrupted by a fire alarm!); the classes are all very excited about their presents.
As if that wasn’t enough, some hardy souls also stuck around to perform in the Carol Concert in the evening along with staff and pupils from the Senior School. It was a lovely evening and it was wonderful to see and hear our current and former pupils performing so well. Friday morning (I am writing this preparing to watch the General Election results come in…) sees us finish the term with our Awards Meeting and of course Christmas dinner before we head off for the Christmas holidays.

Lunch Club and After School Clubs – Spring Term 2020 You should have all by now received the booking forms for our Lunch and After School Clubs. Please return these to Lynne Singer (email: lsinger@sibfordschool.co.uk) by Monday, 6th January. Clubs will start w/c 13th January. Prep and After School Care will be available from the start of term. Year 3 and 4 Horse Riding within PE Lessons – Spring Term 2020 For children in Years 3 and 4 we offer Horse Riding during their PE Lesson on Thursdays. If you wish your child to take part in horse riding next term please email Lynne Singer by Monday, 6th January. Sibford School Ski Trip (Years 4-13) – Friday 27th March to Saturday, 4th April 2020 A final reminder, if you would like your child to attend the above trip or require further information please contact Lynne Singer as soon as possible by email: lsinger@sibfordschool.co.uk. This will be an excellent opportunity to ski in Zell-amZee in the Austrian Alps. Sibford School Scholarships for Entry to Senior School Please note that the Scholarship Assessment day for children entering Year 7 in September 2020 will take place on Saturday, 25th January and the deadline for applications is Friday, 17th January.
