LES MIS CAST GETS A VISIT FROM WEST END CHOREOGRAPHER Last Sunday, the cast of Les Mis were lucky enough to work with the amazing Flik Swan, a professional choreographer and incredible dancer. Flik has worked on many different theatrical projects including some in London’s West End, so it was an amazing experience to meet her. Throughout the day, we worked on three major numbers from our show that needed choreographing and it was so much fun! Then, at the end of the day, I was able to interview Flik to chat about our show and her career. Flik got her start in musical theatre very young as she started dancing when she was just 2 ½ years old before leaving home at age 11 for a full time performing arts school. She explained that, “I got an agent when I was about 17 and that agent got me my first job”. Subsequently she was in many West End shows, did some teaching on the side and was “always performing and choreographing”. I asked whether Flik had ever worked on Les Mis before, she said no, but told me a story about a time when she was almost in the production. “That’s so funny” she said, “because when I was fifteen, I auditioned for the West End show. I lied and told them I was sixteen!” Although she did well, in the end she confessed her real age and “they said come back in a few years!” Finally, Flik talked to me about what it’s like to do her job. “I love being in a creative industry, I like having charge of my own time, it gives you a lot of freedom”. Flik then said that although it is a hard industry to be in “it’s a wonderful one!” On behalf of myself and all the cast I’d like to thank Flik so much for a challenging but great day. SFL LEARNER OF THE WEEK Charlie, Year 11 is the SfL learner of the week. He really impressed Michael Maguire and his peers with his analysis of a text and his presentation of his ideas. Well done Charlie, keep it up!
A VISIT FROM DR. JONES On Friday lunchtime, students were treated to a talk by Dr. Charles Jones, a Chartered Psychologist. He came to talk to our interested students in Year 10 and above about Psychology as a career and different entry pathways. His talk also demonstrated some of the really interesting ways in which the mind can be trained to think differently.
SIBFORD TO HOST RUGBY SEVENS TOURAMENT The 2020 tournament is due to take place over six days in March and will involve 33 schools from over 6 counties, totalling 118 teams ranging from U12s to U18s with over 1000 competitors. As this festival continues to grow we are now looking for sponsors to help meet the demands of running such a great event. THE SIBFORD BOARDING BULLETIN! Our exeat weekend 'staycation' was an excellent opportunity to get together to celebrate Chinese New Year. Following the lead of the students, this consisted of lots of food! A number of students volunteered to cook and share some of their favourite recipes for the festivities. This was a great way to experience different cultures, share stories and celebrate the occasion. Another reason for celebration was the culmination of our interior design club on Monday. The KS3 boarders have researched, planned, designed and painted a stunningly stylish pair of designs on the Penn House common room walls. They loved the opportunity to make permanent changes to their living space and did an excellent job. Also closing this week were the yoga classes on Tuesdays, with the students feeling calm and refreshed and the pottery class on Thursday with the students bringing some fabulous designs back to the houses. A lot of fun has been had by the students involved and we are looking forward to the next activity series starting next Monday. Other ongoing opportunities for boarders in the week include a trip to the gym on Tuesdays, a fun swim session on Wednesdays and bouldering on Thursdays. It is great to see our boarders getting so involved in the opportunities available to them.

The first 3 occasional boarding bookings will receive a 50% discount on their first night! If your child is staying for a sports fixture or school trip they receive 50% discount on the occasional boarding fee.

SUPPORT THE PSFA MAY BALL
‘A Night on the Orient Express’ May Ball is being held on Saturday 9 May 2020 and bookings are now open! Tickets are £65 each, and are excellent value for what promises to be a fantastic night, including reception drink and canapés, formal 4 course meal with coffee, live music, live and silent auction, and as always, some surprises on the night! The event is supporting another fantastic charity this year, Blue Skye Thinking (you can find out more about them here: www.blueskyethinking.org), as well as raising funds for PSFA to support projects within the school. If you would like to book a table or tickets (we can do tables of any number between 8-12) please email Heidi Fowler at psfa@sibfordschool.co.uk. In previous years tickets have sold out so do book early to avoid disappointment.
