Anna’s Story

At just nine weeks old, Anna, from Shifnal Girls Football Club, was diagnosed with four congenital heart defects. She spoke to us about her journey and why supporting the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is so important.

As a baby, Anna’s symptoms were first noticed when she began coughing every time she laid down. Concerned, her family sought medical advice, leading to a hospital referral and further scans. It was then that doctors discovered the extent of her condition.

Following her diagnosis, Anna underwent surgery to correct the defects, giving her far more energy and making it possible for her to play football later in life.

Now thriving on the pitch, Anna is passionate about raising awareness and supporting others facing similar challenges. She believes charities like the BHF play a crucial role in funding research and improving early diagnosis.

“I think they’re important because they raise money to fund research so people can be diagnosed straight away and understand what’s wrong with them,” she explained.

The BHF continues to highlight the importance of early detection, with millions of people across the UK currently living with undiagnosed heart conditions.

Anna’s message to those supporting the charity is simple but powerful, “Thanks for supporting them so they can help diagnose people like me and others that they have helped”

A heart attack takes a life every three minutes in the UK. Supporting the BHF can help change that.

AFCWestonRhyn WinMarkHarrodGoal NetCompetition

AFC WESTON RHYN HAVE BEEN NAMED WINNERS OF THE MARK HARROD GOAL NET COMPETITION, SECURING HEMSELVES A BRAND-NEW SET OF COLOURED GOAL NETS.

We sat down with Lewis Alderson, manager of AFC Weston Rhyn, to learn about the transformation the club has undergone and how the goal nets provided by Mark Harrod will benefit them.

When Lewis took over almost three years ago, Vicarage Lane, the club’s home ground, was a far cry from the thriving community venue it is today.

Lewis and his father, has also been installed, helping to secure the pitch while creating opportunities for sponsorship to generate income for further development at Vicarage Lane.

The black and red goal nets supplied by Mark Harrod have helped complete the transformation, strengthening a club identity that the local football community can be proud of.

Alderson believes the new nets will make a huge difference to the club.

“People will see the effort that’s gone into the ground,” he says. “I think it’ll make a huge difference in getting people down and having a look at what we’ve done.”

For clubs looking to improve their ground and develop a clear identity, coloured goal nets are available through the Mark Harrod website.

https://www.markharrod.com/productcategory/football-goals/

“The goals were rusty, the dugouts were leaking and the benches were rotting. Paint was flaking off the walls in the home changing room, and there was no identity whatsoever,” he recalls.

Today the ground has undergone a complete transformation thanks to a hardworking group of volunteers led by Alderson.

The Vicarage Lane clubhouse, once worn and neglected, now stands as a striking and well-maintained centrepiece. The dugouts have been fully refurbished and now feature bold black and red AFC Weston Rhyn branding. A new spectator barrier, built and fitted by

Autism Awareness Day

April 2nd World Autism Day

April 2nd marks World Autism Day, a global event dedicated to raising awareness, promoting understanding and celebrating the lives and achievements of autistic people around the world.

Autism is a lifelong disability that affects how people communicate and interact with the world Each autistic person experiences it differently, but many may face challenges with;

Communication and social interaction

Sensory issues with noise, smells and bright lights

While changes to routine may lead to heightened anxiety

Sport can play a powerful role in supporting both physical and mental wellbeing. Alongside keeping us active it can help build confidence, develop social skills, and improve overall mental health These benefits are just as important for people on the autism spectrum

Grassroots football should be a place where those on the autistic spectrum feel both comfortable and confident to take part

“Every autistic person is different and unique in their own way, so take some time to get to know the individual and appreciate their needs: awareness of the person’s level of communication, style of learning, any sensory needs, triggers and behaviours" says Daniel Bird, BA (Hons) Sports Coaching and School Sport

Grassroots Football Partnerships

Why Purpose Is the New Game Changer

The world of sport sponsorship and brand activation is undergoing a seismic shift.

Brands are no longer content with simply slapping their logo on a stadium hoarding or a player’s kit and hoping for maximum impressions. Today’s landscape demands more - more meaning, more impact, more purpose. As fans become increasingly value-driven, brands must pivot towards campaigns that prioritise social impact.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the grassroots sports space, where the emotional and cultural stakes are at their highest.

Football at its core has always been about more than just winning. On local pitches across the UK, grassroots football brings kids, parents, coaches and volunteers together in ways that go far beyond sport It’s here, in muddy boots and on community sidelines, that the game shapes culture and builds futures.

The Rise of the Socially Conscious Fan

Supporters today aren’t passive spectators. They’re engaged, connected and deeply invested in the issues that shape both their communities and the game they love.

From inclusivity and mental health to tackling racism and climate action, fans expect the clubs and brands involved in grassroots football to stand for something real. In fact, research shows more than 70% of UK sports fans believe sponsorship should promote positive social change - a figure that rises even higher among Gen Z and Millennial fans.

For grassroots football, this isn’t just a trend; it’s a cultural shift. Families now expect action, not just advertising.

Why Purpose Works - For Football and for Brands

Cause-led parentships and sponsorship aren’t just good for the game - but good for business.

Here’s why:

Authenticity builds trust - Communities know when brands are serious and when they’re faking it. Supporting real issues earns long-term respect.

Purpose sparks engagement - Stories rooted in values are the ones people talk about and share, both locally and nationally.

Stand out in a crowded market - With so many brands chasing visibility, purpose-driven sponsorship cuts through the noise.

Inspire from the inside out - Employees, volunteers and partners want to be part of something meaningful. Purpose energises teams as much as fans.

How Brands Can Deliver Purpose in Grassroots Football

For those ready to step onto the grassroots pitch with real intent, a few principles stand out:

Listen first: Ask players, teams, referees and families about the challenges they face. Build campaigns with them, not just for them.

Partner wisely: Work with governing bodies, leagues and charities who already have trust on the ground. Think beyond matchday: Legacy projects - from workshops to online resources -leave an impact long after the final whistle

Beyond Sponsorship: A Shared Responsibility

For brands, the lesson is clear: don’t just show up with a badge. Roll up your sleeves, step into the community and make a lasting difference. Because when football sponsorship moves beyond visibility and into real impact, everyone benefits - the players, the clubs, the fans and the sponsors themselves.

Final Word

The future of grassroots football sponsorship isn’t about being the biggest logo on the pitch. It’s about being the brand that shows up, listens and makes change happen. And in that future, purpose isn’t just an advantage. It’s the whole game.
