Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese The Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company held its Annual Open House for the community this past weekend and hundreds turned out to enjoy a great evening. Free ice cream, hot dogs and refreshments were served, various apparatus were on display, McGruff the crime dog greeted everyone and children got the chance to spray a fire hose. The event shared fun safety lessons and was a wonderful familyfriendly night.

Historical Society/Eicher Arts Collaborative Effort Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese For nearly 300 years two structures have stood in what is today known as Ephrata or Tom Grater Park, along the banks of the Cocalico Creek. Their history dates back to the first half of the 1700s when they became the homestead of Daniel Eicher and his family. The presentday structures, the Sisters’ Cabin and the Eicher Arts Center, endure as the remains of a historically colorful and varied past. In recent months a collaborative effort by the Eicher Arts Center and the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley have brought to light an interesting story that recreates another storied chapter of Ephrata’s past and present. Thanks to the combined skills of research librarian Cynthia Marquet, photographer Ken Konlande and construction developer William Miller, this unique location has been made into a 3D model. Shown, from left to right, are Ken Konlande, Cynthia Marquet and William Miller.
