Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese Students in the Ephrata High School senior class volunteered their time recently to record interviews at the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley at 237 West Main Street. Phil Eisemann is the member at the Historical Society and he contacted the school several years ago to organize this event and it’s been very successful. Teachers announce the opportunity at the class meetings and then the senior class officers organize the sign up, which is especially impressive since this occurs over a day off for students. When they arrive, students pair off and record their answers to a series of generic questions about current society and school, “What’s your favorite subject and why?” “What’s a concern you have for your future?” Etc. The answers are burned onto a CD. The students get a copy and can eliminate any or all of their answers. If they are okay with their comments, the CD’s are placed in something like a time capsule and stored at the Historical Society to be opened several decades from now. The students then got a tour of the museum, which is actually very interesting and the society provided light snacks. The kids meet the members and even better, the members get to meet a sampling of our greatest kids, win/win. The whole event took about an hour. Shown in the photo are Ephrata High School seniors, from left to right, Katie Young, Annie Wise, Sarah Dover and Class President, Katie Hammaker in the museum as they record their thoughts.
East Earl Enacts Ordinance
The East Earl Township Board of Supervisors recently enacted an
ordinance making the numbering of buildings in the Township mandatory. All newly constructed buildings must be identified with 4” numbers. For existing buildings, 3” numbers are acceptable. The primary reason for estab-
lishing this ordinance is to aid emergency services, which include police, fire and ambulance, in locating properties during an emergency event. Copies of the ordinance are available at the Township Mun-
icipal Office located at 4610 Division Highway, East Earl. Signs that meet the numbering specifications can be purchased from local fire companies. There are other resources, including your local hardware store.

Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese With winter dealing another round of frozen precipitation, local road crews are hitting back with everything they have in order to keep roads open and motorists safe. This recent shot shows the hard working crew from Ephrata Township as they work as a team to clear drifting snow on Stevens Road using some of their larger equipment.
