The Ephrata High School staff recently awarded Achievement Medallion Awards to students who stand apart, succeed despite unique circumstances, or contribute in a special way to the high school environment. These students demonstrate enthusiasm and determination, meet challenges with confidence, and encourage their classmates to do the same. Michener’s Engraving, Inc. and Douple Agency, Inc. partnered with the high school to offer this award to 15 students at the January 2015 awards ceremony.

Teachers shared many positive traits about the students they nominated. “He could have dropped the course, but he didn’t. He persevered. His courage and determination propelled him, and his classmates encouraged him, cheered him on, and applauded his every effort. It has been such a pleasure, not only for me, but for the students who witnessed his transformation during the semester.” “She was more than happy to assist me with anything that I

Red, White And Blue Day Celebrated At OMPH School On Friday, January 30 the students of OMPH School celebrated Red, White and Blue Day, a special time set aside to honor those who serve the community and nation. Invited guests included veterans and members of the armed forces, elected officials, firefighters, police officers and first responders. Each year they recognize a member of the local community for their dedication and commitment to public service. This year they were pleased to honor Mayor Ralph Mowen of Ephrata Borough. The children entertained the guests with patriotic vocal and instrumental selections. Mayor Mowen has dedicated his life in service to his community and his country. Following his graduation from Ephrata High School, Mayor Mowen joined the United States Air Force where he served as an Airman First Class from 1963-1967. During his enlistment he worked with radio maintenance and tactical air command. After completing his service in the military, the Mayor returned to Ephrata and joined Susquehanna Bancshares, building a career in business that spanned 42 years of service.
