FROM THE CHAIRMAN

As we move into the heart of summer, LET’S take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly exceptional year for the Naval Academy Athletic Foundation—and for the broader Naval Academy community we are privileged to support .

First, our transition to the Naval Academy Athletic Foundation marks much more than a name change It represents a renewed clarity of purpose and a stronger alignment with our mission—to advance the physical pillar of leadership development at the Academy . The rebrand has been met with strong support and reinforces our identity as a critical partner in enabling sustained excellence in Navy athletics

That partnership has never been more important In close collaboration with Chet Gladchuk, Michael Kelly, and the NAAA team, we delivered A RECORD $9 million in support to ensure the continued strength of the physical mission At the same time, we remain closely aligned with the Superintendent, who is completing his first year at the Academy and has quickly recognized the value of what we deliver as Trustees Our role is clear: we help provide the margin of excellence that allows midshipmen to compete, to lead, and ultimately to serve at the highest levels .

And that service is not theoretical—it is being demonstrated every day At a time of continued conflict in the Middle East, Naval Academy alumni remain forward and engaged across the fleet and Marine Corps Their presence and leadership reinforce the enduring connection between the Yard and the operating forces—and underscore why our investment in developing leaders across the moral, mental, and physical domains matters so deeply

This past academic year offered powerful evidence of that impact It was a remarkable year for both athletics and academics . Navy secured the Star Series earlier than ever, claimed the Patriot League President’s Cup, and demonstrated competitive excellence across multiple sports Notably, so many of our top-performing graduates were varsity or club athletes, including a Trident Scholar who competed as a member of the rowing team These outcomes are not coincidental—they are the result of a deliberate commitment to developing well-rounded leaders

Looking ahead, we are equally encouraged by the next generation We welcomed an outstanding cohort of

Foundation students this summer and had the opportunity to host them at our Ice Cream Social at the Fluegel Alumni Center on 24 June These young men and women represent the future of the Naval Academy—and our continued investment ensures they arrive prepared to succeed

The coming year will also bring transformative change to our facilities and infrastructure The south end zone project is taking shape, highlighted by the Naval Academy Athletic Foundation Pavilion—a visible symbol of alumni commitment . We will finally see the completion of the long-awaited McDonough Hall renovation, break ground on a new lacrosse facility, and celebrate the opening of the upgraded 19th Hole at the golf course later this summer—made possible through the leadership and generosity of trustee Jim Kelly ’77 and Dave Rich ’79

We also paused this spring to celebrate an important milestone—the 50th anniversary of women at the Naval Academy The event at the Fluegel Alumni Center in April was both meaningful and inspiring, and it marked the beginning of continued recognition throughout the year, including the anniversary of I-Day for the Class of 1980 and additional observances during the football season . The contributions of our female graduates continue to strengthen every aspect of the Naval Academy community

As we look ahead, there is much to anticipate The Brigade will reform in August, bringing renewed energy to the Yard Navy football enters the season with significant expectations, and opening weekend will include the Distinguished Graduate Award ceremony—always a powerful reminder of the legacy we are building together A road game at Air Force, a highprofile matchup against Notre Dame in Boston, MA, and our fall Board meeting will provide further opportunities to reconnect and advance our mission

In the meantime, I hope each of you has had the chance to enjoy a well-earned and restful summer Thank you for your continued commitment to the Naval Academy Athletic Foundation and to the midshipmen who depend on us

Our former Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk often reminded us to “Expect to Win .” I have always liked that phrase because it says more than simply hoping for success It speaks to preparation, commitment, confidence, and the willingness to do the hard work necessary to improve That same mindset captures this important moment for our organization as we transition from Athletic & Scholarship Programs to the Naval Academy Athletic Foundation Our new name better reflects who we are and the mission we are privileged to support . Founded in 1944, the Naval Academy Athletic Foundation continues to provide leadership, need-based funding, guidance, and mentoring to Foundation Preparatory School students, while also inspiring philanthropic support for Naval Academy varsity, club, and intramural athletics through The Fund for Athletic Excellence The name may be new, but our purpose remains unchanged: helping young men and women prepare to lead, compete, serve, and win

Scholarship Program Highlights

Our scholarship program remains the original mission of the Foundation and one of the things that continues to make me most proud . I can honestly say, I love my job and I feel like we make a difference every day Each year, Tracey Cook, Mariola Baker, and I are afforded the opportunity to work with motivated, intelligent, and committed young men and women recommended by the Naval Academy Admissions Office for an additional year of academic, physical, and

leadership preparation before entering USNA These needbased scholarships are made possible by the generosity of our Trustees, alumni, parents, and friends, and they are provided at no cost to the U S government

The results continue to speak for themselves Our Class of 2030 Foundation Prep cohort included 43 students—26 men and 17 women—with 16 recruited athletes representing sports such as baseball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, cross country/ triathlon, rugby, gymnastics, diving, lacrosse, and rowing . These motivated students hailed from 19 different states and four countries Florida led the way with seven students, followed by California with five Maryland and Texas both had four Greece, Spain, Taiwan, and the Virgin Islands were the foreign countries and territories represented Forty-two of our foundation-sponsored students took the oath with the Class of 2030 on I-Day amid some significant temperatures They will claim they had the last “real” Plebe Summer … but everyone knows, the Class of 1988 owns that distinction!

For the foundation-sponsored Class of 2031, we have 37— 23 men and 14 women—who have committed to a year of prep at one of our 16 affiliated prep schools . Twenty-two different states are represented with this year’s class California and Texas are leading the way with four students each and Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida all have three students Our students take a challenging academic course load, to include, calculus, chemistry, physics, English, and

an elective Additionally, we expect them to improve their study habits, manage their time wisely, and prioritize what is important Doing these things will prepare them for the academic rigors of the Naval Academy

In recent years, our foundation-sponsored students have consistently achieved appointment rates above 90%, including 42 of 43 (97%) students earning appointments for the incoming Class of 2030 Since 1944, more than 4,000 motivated candidates with strong leadership, scholastic, and athletic potential have gone on to graduate from the Naval Academy because of this program Bottom line: this program continues to be a win-win for our students and the Naval Academy!

Supporting the Physical Mission

I have said this in previous editions, but it bears repeating: the support we provide to the physical mission through The Fund for Athletic Excellence is an integral part of the Naval Academy’s effort to develop midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically The Naval Academy Athletic Foundation raises philanthropic support for one of the broadest undergraduate athletic programs in the nation, including varsity teams, club sports, intramurals, and athletics at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI All midshipmen are student-athletes, and athletic competition remains a critical proving ground for resilience, teamwork, discipline, and leadership

Through The Fund for Athletic Excellence, we help provide the margin of excellence that allows Navy athletics to compete at the highest levels In FY26, athletic excellence fundraising surpassed $8 million and that allows direct support for priorities such as athletic training, nutrition, technology, recruiting, facilities, awards, NAPS athletics, club sports, and intramurals Looking ahead, the foundation’s FY27 program support budget is $5 6 million, with additional emphasis on performance nutrition, athletic training staff, wearable technology, and expanded recognition for club sports This kind of support does not happen by accident . It is the result of a committed and cohesive team of Trustees, alumni, parents, friends, and teammates across the Naval Academy enterprise who believe deeply in the mission

U.S. Naval Academy Athletic Successes

Navy athletics continues to demonstrate what missiondriven competition looks like Recent accomplishments include winning the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, defeating the Cincinnati Bearcats 35-13 in the Liberty Bowl, earning a national ranking in football, and continuing strong performances across the Star Series and conference

competition . Across the Yard, Navy teams have produced record-setting numbers of all-americans, academic all-americans, scholar-athletes, conference champions, and national award winners That is quite an impressive list, and it reflects the daily commitment of our midshipmen, coaches, and staff

Speaking of our coaches, we are proud to recognize our Coaches of the Year across the fall, winter and spring seasons

Each of these leaders exemplifies excellence through their unwavering commitment to our student-athletes, fostering not only competitive success but also personal growth, discipline, and character Their dedication to developing young men and women both on and off the field is a true reflection of the values we hold dear at the Naval Academy, and we are grateful for the impact they make every day

Navy, once again, won the Patriot League Presidents Cup It is the 11th time in the last 12 years The Mids have been part of the conference for 22 seasons and have competed in the Presidents Cup for 21 seasons, winning 12 times In the All-Time Army-Navy record, Navy leads 1224-927-46 and from 1969-1970 to Navy has posted a 49-6-2 in the annual overall series

These achievements are more than wins, records, and trophies They are evidence that athletic excellence at the Naval Academy helps develop leaders who are prepared to serve Our foundation’s support helps create the conditions for that success—through scholarships that open doors, resources that strengthen teams, and philanthropic partnerships that keep the physical mission at the center of Naval Academy life In short, the support we all provide is paying off!

I want to acknowledge and thank our Trustee volunteers who serve on our committees and serve as chairpersons for their extraordinary commitment to our organization

Their willingness to give of their time, talent, and treasure has made a meaningful and lasting impact Because of their leadership and dedication, we are stronger, more effective, and better positioned to accomplish our mission

Dear CDR David B Lillefloren, USN (Ret ),

My name is Harrison Jennrich, and I am sincerely and forever grateful for the opportunity to attend New Mexico Military Institute as a LTJG Alton Grizzard (USNA ’91) Memorial Army-Navy Scholarship recipient

My journey to the Naval Academy started as soon as I was old enough to realize that the men around me whom I looked up to all shared a common trait: they were men of service, military men and first responders who spent their time helping their communities by serving a mission bigger than themselves . As I began to research options that fulfilled this goal while in high school, the Naval Academy immediately grabbed my attention and became the ultimate goal

Although it was initially disappointing not to be accepted to USNA right out of high school, it has ultimately been one of the biggest blessings in my life The people and experiences I have been fortunate to have had this past year have benefited me in every facet of my life, from academics to athletics and leadership Spending a year at NMMI allowed me to experience a part of the U S I maybe never would have otherwise and prepared myself as best as possible for a future as an officer I was able to not only heal from my ACL surgery and work on my academic skills, but come back in better shape and stronger academically than I ever have been .
