Challenge A door manufacturer sought to replace its more traditional sanding operation with the complete Mirka system – sanders, abrasives, vacuum hoses and dust extractors. The sanding operation needed to: Be virtually dust-free, allowing personnel a clear view of the sanding surface ■ Eliminate the potential for over-sanding and enhance the finish ■ Maximize production and quality, and minimize cleanup ■

Solution The key was the Abranet Mesh Abrasives sanding discs, which utilize a net-mesh construction similar to a grid pattern. Abrasive particles are attached to the mesh rather than a solid backing with several holes. With thousands of openings per disc, no dust particle created is ever more than 0.5 mm from a dust extraction hole. That eliminates the problem of dust clogging the abrasive pad and makes it easier for dust to be quickly swept or vacuumed from the surface.
