50’s Banquet Valery Vergara
This year’s Girls’ and Boys’ Club hosted a 1950’s theme banquet for the whole school on February 19. As soon as you walked in the gym you felt like you were taken back to the rockin’ 50’s time period! So much went into putting this whole banquet together; Girls’ Club President Bethany Edwards said, “ We spent hours and hours working on painting the murals that were hung on the gym walls, but in the end, it paid off.” As soon as you were escorted to your table you saw conversation starters lying on the table to help break the ice. If you didn’t
want to use the conversation starters, you could also choose to go take pictures or to play with the Wii! Meshach Perez said, “One of my favorite things about the banquet was that we got the chance to take Polaroid pictures and actually keep them!” Next thing we knew, tables were being called on to go get their food. The meal for the night was a delicious burger, curly fries, and a good ole’ milkshake. Even people with special dietary needs were able to enjoy the great food because there were other options there for them like vegan burgers
and dairy-free ice cream. As Hannah Sloan said excitedly, “The milkshake bar was probably one of my favorite parts of the night; they were super good, so that was a plus! I loved that there were different flavors to choose from and a table full of toppings to add on!” As we went to go sit back down, there was some really funny entertainment we got to watch while we ate all of our food. The first entertainment for the night was a hula hoop contest to see who could do it for the longest time and the second one was a game to see who knew
a certain person the best. The game consisted of two people who knew a person really well who would go up to compete and see who knew them better. So as a staff member read off the questions, participants answered by writing down what they thought that person would write on his or her piece of paper. After they had answered all the questions, they called the person they were answering questions about and asked them the same questions. After they had answered the questions, a final winner was determined. Everyone loved watching the
entertainment and as we got ready for a movie, studnets got in line for some popcorn and cotton candy. Genesis Quintanilla was so happy to see that they had cotton candy; she said, “I loved how they thought of bringing in a cotton candy machine and making all the cotton candy in front of us; it was so cool! It was also really great that we got to eat it while we watched the movie.” The movie for the night was about a car named Herbie and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. Continue on page 2
