2026 Alumni Weekend #SVAAlumniWeekend2026
www.shenandoahvalleyacademy.org/alumni/
Principal’s Welcome Welcome Home to Shenandoah! The beautiful springtime campus of Shenandoah Valley Academy provides the setting for a glorious reunion. Alumni Weekend is a brief and shining moment when the SVA Family is as complete as it will be this side of heaven. It is a precious time to strengthen bonds of friendship with beloved classmates and faculty who have made an important difference in our lives. And it is a special opportunity to meet the wonderful students who attend SVA today. This weekend is also a time to celebrate and thank you, Alumni. Shenandoah is strong and growing because of your unwavering support, love, and loyalty. Students today become part of the powerful legacy of SVA Adventist boarding school because of you who generously make financial gifts to sustain this special school. Thank you for committing your energies and resources to the well-being of students and the long-term sustainability of SVA. It is my prayer this weekend will be a time to renew our love for God and each other. I encourage you to partner with your school again by making a financial gift, or by taking time to encourage current students who in turn will share their energy and joy of youth with you. It is a special honor to have you here… Where Shines the Big Virginia Sun… Welcome! Donald Short Principal
Message From The Alumni President Isn’t it fun to come “home” to SVA Alumni Weekend homecoming? SVA is so much more than a school. SVA has been a home in some way to each and every one of us. It is a home away from home where we learned in an atmosphere of God’s love. We made lifelong friends by living, working, and studying, surrounded by those who love and serve God. It is “a place, and a feeling, and people” that makes SVA our home. That is why we are here today. I am so thankful to all of you alumni for your support that allows SVA to continue to provide this opportunity to students from all kinds of backgrounds throughout Virginia, Maryland, the United States, and the world. We all have other places that we call home. I have had many homes in my life: SVA, Dayton, Loma Linda, Collegedale, and Macon. It hasn’t always been the physical place that made it Home, but rather the people, experiences, and feelings I have had there. I also have a home in heaven that I have never seen. It is real though, and filled with love and security. But best of all, it is where I will get to spend eternity close to God our Father. Enjoy this weekend, laughing, crying, and making new memories with friends new and old. Your presence here makes SVA a better place. Please continue to pray that God’s presence and leading is felt by each one who walks this campus. And as you leave again, think about what home means to you. Do you have more than one home? I hope so. I know I do.

In a Little While We’re Going Home
Congregation
Let us sing a song that will cheer us by the way, In a little while we’re going home; For the night will end in the everlasting day, In a little while we’re going home.
We will do the work that our hands may find to do, In a little while we’re going home; And the grace of God will our daily strength renew, In a little while we’re going home.
Refrain: In a little while, in a little while, We shall cross the billow’s foam, We shall meet at last when the stormy winds are past, In a little while we’re going home.
There’s a rest beyond, there’s relief from every care, In a little while we’re going home; And no tears shall fall in that city bright and fair, In a little while we’re going home.

Our Shenandoah Where shines the big Virginia sun, And Old Dominion’s streamlets run, From out the Massanutt’s cool shade, And down great Allegheny’s glade, God’s works in nature multiplied, Extol His name on ev’ry side. chorus O Shenandoah (stomp & clap), Dear Shenandoah (stomp & clap), In thee do we delight to rest (clapping) And daily strive to do our best, For Shenandoah, Shenandoah. In nature’s dooryard neatly planned, A gift is placed by God’s own hand, The S.V.A. of sacred birth, Our own dear school of sterling worth Whose beacon lit by gospel truth, Sheds holy light on paths of youth. What blighting frost can chill our zeal, Or fury’s evil ever deal, A blow in madness fit to shake Our faith in thee, O S.V.A! Or cause our strength in future time, To [fail] before thy cause sublime? Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee, Hail Thee as the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day! All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise. Field and Forest, vale and mountain, Bloss’ming meadow flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou the Father, Christ our Brother— All who live in love are Thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine. Mortals, join the mighty chorus Which the morning stars began Father love is reigning o’er us Brother love binds man to man Ever singing, march we onward Victors in the midst of strife Joyful music lifts us Sonward In the triumph song of life. Lead On O King Eternal Lead on, O King Eternal, The day of march has come; Hence-forth in fields of conquest, They tents shall be our home; Through days of preparation, They grace has made us strong. And now, O King Eternal, We lift our battle song. Lead on, O King Eternal, Till sin’s fierce war shall cease, And holiness shall whisper, The sweet A-men of peace; For not with swords, loud clashing, Nor roll of stirring drums, With deeds of love and mercy, The heavenly kingdom comes. Lead on, O King Eternal, We follow, not with fears, For gladness breaks like morning Where e’er thy face appears; Thy cross is lifted o’er us, We journey in its light; The crown awaits the conquest; Lead on, O God of might.
