Anonymous Shaker Song arr. Shawn Kirchner

S

* Grace notes should be played quite subtlely (and omitted if they cause the player stress.) They always resolve to the note a step above them, and are meant to be played on the beat, like a Classical appoggiatura. The effect should be equivalent to a fiddle "hammer on" played simultaneously with an adjacent open string. So, all chord tones other than the resolving note should be played on the beat.

U

In m. 2, for example, the A and D should both be played on the beat, with the A resolving to the B a sixteenth after. In m. 14, the E and A should be played on the beat, with the E resolving to the F# a sixteenth after. In m. 18, the B grace note resolves to the C#, so the A, B, and E should all be played on the beat, with the resolving C# replacing the B a moment after.
