A Message from the President

As I reflect on my first year as President of the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the incredible community we serve. Westmont is a place where tradition and progress meet, where long-standing local businesses, vibrant new entrepreneurs, and engaged residents work side by side to make our Village a welcoming and thriving destination.

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with our members, attending community celebrations, and seeing firsthand the passion and dedication that fuel Westmont’s success. From our signature events and business networking programs to the strong partnerships we share with the Village, schools, and community organizations, it’s clear that collaboration is at the heart of all we do.

Our Chamber is proud to support the growth and vitality of our business community while celebrating what makes Westmont special, our outstanding restaurants, unique shops, family-friendly events, and the warm sense of belonging that makes people proud to call Westmont home.

Looking ahead to 2026, we are entering an exciting new chapter. VILLAGE BUILDING COMMUNITY SYNERGY THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS

Showcasing ‘small town feel’ with big opportunities

Building a community and making it successful takes everyone working together, and that includes both residents and members of the business community. Westmont is a great example of this type of synergy as it creates partnerships between businesses, schools, nonprofit organizations, and civic groups.

This past April, the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau (WCCTB) hosted its annual Westmont Community Awards Dinner to recognize local individuals and businesses. The Awards Dinner was at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center in Westmont. The dinner is designed to provide a special opportunity to pause and recognize the many wonderful volunteers, activities, and businesses that work to make Westmont a great place to live, work, and visit.

“Over 180 Westmont area residents, business owners, and civic leaders attended the Westmont Chamber Community Awards program to demonstrate support for our community,” WCCTB President Jessica Garrett recalls. “The Westmont Chamber along with the Village of Westmont, American Legion Post No. 338, People’s Resource Center,

Rotary Club of Westmont, Westmont Lions Club, Westmont Park District, and the Knights of Columbus are collectively proud to recognize the individuals and businesses that help contribute to the growth and success of Westmont, in a manner that keeps Westmont a great place to live, work and visit.”

Volunteerism and Chamber committees result in some great village events, including the Taste of Westmont, Holly Days, and the Street Fair. These, in part, help in creating Westmont’s “small town feel with big opportunity.”

One great example of volunteerism in Westmont is the People’s Resource Center (PRC), a neighbor-to-neighbor mission, based locally and serving residents across DuPage County with immediate services and empowering education programs. PRC recently marked 10 years of service at its Westmont facility, at 104 Chestnut Avenue. PRC was founded in Wheaton in 1975.

“We could not have found a better community than Westmont to grow PRC’s neighbor-to-neighbor reach in DuPage County,” says PRC’s CEO Jennifer Fabian.

PRC relies on volunteer dedication to reach so many neighbors, and Westmont has delivered.”

According to Fabian, community members have generously given more than 287,000 hours of volunteer time in PRC Westmont in the past decade. Relationships with local businesses, faith and civic groups, scouts, and school clubs represent just a few of the creative ways the community can get involved.

Westmont businesses and community groups have hosted food and diaper drives, contributed winter coats and gloves, donated surplus garden produce, and assisted with resource tables at the Trick or Treat Trail and volunteered at PRC events or in the food pantry.

“The Westmont Chamber is dedicated to helping the whole community thrive, and PRC shares that vision. Westmont combines the benefits of a neighbor-focused community with the vision of regional opportunities. PRC celebrates the Westmont community and the impact you help us make,” Fabian says.

WESTMONT CONTINUES TO BE DINING, SHOPPING & ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION

Whether searching for that unique shop or boutique, a place to hear some live music, or a great place to eat, Westmont has many options.

From Amalgam Martial Academy and Happy Cat Grooming to L Boutique and Spa, Gamma Technologies, and Nashama Travel and Tours, several new businesses have opened in the village in the past year, and many more are on the horizon.

Westmont has two Tax Increment Finance (TIF) districts: the Central Business District TIF and the South Westmont Business District TIF. These programs are designed to provide an economic incentive for new businesses interested in high-quality redevelopment and reinvestment projects that contribute to the community’s character and economic vitality.

From Bacuri Bakery to Sunrise of Westmont, a luxury senior living complex, to Interiors by Mary Susan and Midwest Express Clinic, it seems as if Westmont Chamber officials are out doing ribbon cuttings at new businesses every week. And, when it comes to new restaurants, there’s something

for everyone in Westmont. The village is fast becoming a hotspot for foodies and those seeking culinary diversity.

“Westmont’s dining scene is always evolving,” says Jay Rushford, owner of Uncle Bub’s BBQ, who is also the chamber’s Restaurant Chairman. “With restaurants that are new to the scene such as Whiskey Hill and Galaxy Sushi, and mainstays in town, such as Bishops Chili, Katy’s Dumpling House, and Uncle Bub’s BBQ; Westmont offers a great mix of long-time favorites as well as new up and coming places to check out.”

Thanks to a litany of media attention to places like Bubs, Neat Kitchen and Bar and Kim’s Uncle Pizza (maybe the hottest pizza place in the burbs currently), Westmont has truly established itself as a dining destination.

“That’s not even encompassing the restaurants that have come to town to upgrade their locations, such as Zazzo’s and Mrs. T’s Pizza,” Rushford adds. “Dolce Restaurant and Wine Bar’s new location is gorgeous, and there really is no better way to spend a summer evening than out on their patio.”

Westmont Public Library opened at its current location 32 years ago on January 27, 1993. The 28,000-squarefoot building engages about 400 visitors a day and provides access to both physical and digital collections, public computer labs, free WiFi, art gallery space, makerspace tools, and more.

Two meeting rooms accommodate large groups, and nine study rooms are available to small groups or individuals free of charge. The Library also hosts a variety of programs for adults, families, and children, including monthly book clubs, hands-on workshops, and story times. WESTMONT VOLUNTEERS REFLECT TRUE ‘SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY’

It truly takes a village to make Westmont one of the best places to live, and this spirit of community shines through its vibrant network of opportunities for residents to give back and support one another.

“We’re always eager to involve more people in our local organizations, as they are the heartbeat of Westmont. It’s not only a great way to contribute but also to build lasting friendships,” said Larry Forssberg, President of the Westmont Chamber of Commerce.

Getting involved in the community is a meaningful way to make a difference, forge new connections, and participate in unique local events. One such organization, Westmont Special Events, plays a key role by organizing popular gatherings like Taste of Westmont, Cruisin’ Nights, and community arts programs, as well as fun events like annual pub crawls. Collaborating with other village organizations, they also cohost beloved traditions such as Holly Days and 20+ Wicked West Fest events, both of which feature a series of activities over several weeks.

“Community thrives on volunteer support,” said Jessica Garrett, Westmont Chamber of Commerce Board Chair. “Whether someone can help with just one event or assist

with planning throughout the year, every bit of help is appreciated.”

Westmont boasts a rich legacy of community service, anchored by organizations like the Westmont American Legion, founded in 1924, and the Westmont Lions Club, chartered in 1936. These groups, along with others like the Rotary Club of Westmont and the Knights of Columbus, are integral to the fabric of the village. From fundraising for scholarships to hosting service initiatives, they bring people together through acts of kindness and camaraderie. The Knights of Columbus, for instance, support local causes through their popular fish fries and by serving up delicious sandwiches at summer car shows.

The impressive list of community organizations serving Westmont and DuPage County is a testament to the dedication and care that define this area.

Westmont keeps the party going throughout the year

Acommunity’s events and traditions are key to bringing residents and visitors together, and there is little doubt that Westmont keeps the party going throughout the year.

“Westmont has long been known for our great community events,” Westmont Mayor Steven Nero noted recently in a village newsletter. He encourages residents and visitors to come out and enjoy all the village has to offer in entertainment. Whether it’s Westmont Cruisin’ Nights, Taste of Westmont, National Night Out, Public Works Truck Night, Fire Truck Night, and more, there’s always something to see or do in Westmont.

New this year was the Vision & Vibe Fest, held Sept. 13 and 14 at Memorial Park, a new village-coordinated event celebrating the Arts with a dedicated local flair.

According to Jenny Babyar, the village’s project manager for the new event, the focus was to have a festival that embraced “a love for all things creative and artistic. The event featured different types of artists, dancers, performing arts, music, and more.

The Westmont Special Events Corporation (WSEC) is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that is led by an allvolunteer Board of Directors. The group hosted more than 80 events in 2024. The Board of Directors and the Executive Director are responsible for overseeing the direction, planning, coordination, and implementation of all WSEC events.

Take, for example, the James Addington Plaza. “Westmont reimagined its downtown plaza,” says Westmont Chamber of Commerce Board Member Drew Mitchell, who is also the project manager and developer of Quincy Station, a catalytic mixed-use anchor in Downtown Westmont at Cass and Quincy.

According to Mitchell, the (Quincy Station) investment is a strong ‘center of gravity’ from which the downtown can expand. Additionally, village leaders have creatively identified other ‘park’ activation opportunities, including the creation of pocket parks, butterfly gardens, and other opportunities to further engage with the surrounding area.

“As Quinc¬¬y Station’s Project Manager, I’m proud we won the 2022 Westmont Community Improvement Award, which serves as tangible proof of downtown’s potential,” says Mitchell. “The Village’s willingness to support imaginative, high-quality development—matched with vision and organization—is rare and powerful.”

Another economic boost for Westmont is the relaunched Downtown Incentive Program. The DIP now offers matching grants (up to $100,000 for Tier 3 projects) to support facade, accessibility, signage, and fire-safety improvements. “This initiative supports downtown vibrancy, business, and customer attraction,” Mitchell says.

Westmont recently revised its non-home rule sales tax from 0.5 to 1 percent, which, according to village projections, is expected to generate an estimated $2 million annually for capital projects, roadway maintenance, storm-sewer upgrades, and a new fire station.

“These initiatives directly strengthen Westmont’s appeal by visually enhancing public spaces, improving safety and infrastructure, and incentivizing property improvements — together creating a more attractive environment for residents and businesses,” Mitchell adds.

Westmont Mayor Steve Nero summed up well in a recent village newsletter: “For years, I’ve heard people say that

Westmont is ‘DuPage County’s best kept secret’ and that our community is a ‘diamond in the rough.’ I want us to realize that potential and become known as a premier community throughout Chicagoland.”

On the horizon for the village is the redevelopment of the Northeast corner of Cass and Burlington avenues. Holladay Properties is under a “Memorandum of Understanding” to redevelop the 1 N Cass site into a Destination Mixed-Use Transit Oriented Development (TOD). This 120-unit, fourstory project is expected to initiate entitlement approvals before the Plan Commission in December 2025 and will break ground following approvals and the reconfiguration of Burlington Avenue at the water tower (planned in 2026).

“This project,” Mitchell explains, “will bring a strong presence to the northeast corner of proverbial ‘Main and Main’ while bolstering our downtown small business community through the introduction of additional residents and disposable income.”

The village, he adds, continues to undergo a leadership transition that is “truly the best of both worlds,” where prior leadership pursued thoughtful succession planning and remains available to support new leadership. “This continuity is noticeable and helping maintain momentum around village initiatives.”

Mitchell also pointed to Quincy Station, which was completed in the summer of 2022. The estimated $35 million project includes 94 luxury residential units with amenities and direct access to the Metra station—bringing 200 new residents to downtown and helping support local businesses.

Westmont, he adds, hosts solid employment sectors; its largest employers include First Student Charter, Unit School District 201, AutoNation, the Village of Westmont, and Mariano’s.

A strong ‘partnership culture’ is also key to the village’s success. “Westmont’s Chamber, village leadership, and developers (like myself) collaborate effectively through programs like DIP, TIF incentives, and welcome-neighbor initiatives,” Mitchell says.

According to FMC Natatorium founder Mary Ann Kaufman, the popular 71,000-square-foot aquatic facility is celebrating its five-year anniversary in Westmont. “We have found it to be an inviting and welcoming community in which to do business. Our location at Ty Warner Park is perfect, and our swim families enjoy the amenities of the park when they visit the natatorium.”

Kaufman continued: “The Mayor and his staff are fantastic partners, as is the entire county of DuPage, when we

welcome major swim events to the area. We look forward to the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, October 17 through 19 of this year, where we will have the best swimmers from around the world competing.”
