October at LCCOA: Let’s make the most of It!
As October rolls in with cool mornings and golden trees, we find ourselves embracing both the season of change — and the spirit of giving.
Medicare Open Enrollment begins Oct. 15, and seniors across Lee County can review and adjust their Medicare coverage. If you haven’t made your appointment with our office yet, now is the time. Our SHIP-certified counselors are trained to help you sort through the many options and find the plan that best suits your health
Director

We want to thank everyone on our Board of Directors! All of the members on our board are volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules to help better our Senior Center and
needs and budget. After you schedule, we’ll send you a short form; please return it at least one week before your appointment so we can serve you better.
To expand access, we’re also offering local library hours this month for residents of Paw Paw, Ashton, and Franklin Grove. Call us to request an appointment in your town, and we’ll bring the resources to you. We will also have evening hours in our Dixon location.
To keep homes warmer and energy bills lower, we are offering free energy-saving supplies throughout October. Door sweeps, weather strips, window insulation kits, and energy-efficient light bulbs are available — just ask the receptionist when you stop by.
And don’t forget our flu shot clinic on Sept. 30 from 1-4 p.m.. It’s a perfect opportunity to protect yourself ahead of the colder months.
It’s not all paperwork and policies — we’ve got plenty of fun planned, too!
• Music video bingo debuts Friday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. — a lively mix of classic tunes and Bingo luck.
• Wheel of Fortune has been moved to Thursday, October 31, at 11 a.m. Join us for spinning, surprises, and apple pies to celebrate the fifth Friday!
We’ll also welcome special guests this month, including Tom Wadsworth and Kara with University of Illinois Extension. Kara will bring valuable programs such as Healthy Aging on Oct. 28 — Who gets Grandma’s yellow pie plate? Tom will be talking on Oct. 20 about Dixon’s remarkable role in the Civil War.
Fall is always a busy time at the Council on Aging, and our eyes are
already on the holiday season. On Dec. 6, we’ll host our beloved Santa’s Workshop for Kids, beginning this year with a Breakfast with Santa.
To make the day magical, we’re collecting donations starting Oct. 1st. Now is the perfect time to clean out your closets or pick up a few new items to donate. We’re seeking affordable gifts for moms, dads, grandparents, teens, and siblings, as well as tape, tags, and stocking stuffers. We hope to have the Key Club back on board to help as Elves. As always, we need of volunteers to wrap gifts, so join in the fun with us and volunteer.
Whether you’re visiting us for Medicare help, joining a program, or dropping off donations, know that you’re part of something special. The Lee County Council on Aging is a place where generations come together — where needs are met, friendships are made, and the community truly shines.
See you soon, Susie
Public Transportation. The next board meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the dining room. See you then!
