50th Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Louis Vaessen On Feb. 12, 1966, Louis Vaessen and Carol Wolf were married. Fifty years later, the couple are celebrating! Five children, 14 grandchildren, dozens of family pets, hundreds of heads of livestock, and thousands of bushels of corn and soybeans later, Louie and Carol have much to be thankful for. Their wedding took place at Immaculate Conception Church in Lostant, with the cousin of the bride, the Rev. Walter Halberst, officiating. Standing with the couple were maid of honor, Ginny Wolf, and best man, Joe Vaessen, Evelyn Corcoran, Neil Vaessen, Sally Wolf, Jerry O’Sadnick, Mary Vaessen, Don Corcoran, Anita Vaessen, and Ron Vaessen. Louis and Carol have been active members of their community all throughout their married lives. Together, they were leaders of the
Sublette Indians 4-H Club for more than 30 years, and remain active members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. The parents of Audrey Becker of Mendota, Michael (Brenda) Vaessen of Sublette, Peter (Barb) Vaessen of Sublette, Carmon (Craig) Conderman of Byron, and Martin Vaessen of Peru, Louie and Carol continue to be blessed with the gift of a large family. The couple reside on their farm outside of Sublette, where Louie still runs day-to-day operations and can be found tinkering with his many toys. Carol has been a devoted farm wife, keeping the house in order, and spending her spare time quilting, gardening, supporting her grandchildren, and keeping an impressive social calendar. Edward Allen Bratt and Billie Jane Terry were married Feb. 10, 1946, at All Saints Catholic Church in Hayward, California, by Father Francis Reilly. Immediately after their marriage ceremony, Edward took his big-city bride to the rural farming life of Northern Illinois, where they raised four children, Mike (Shanasy) Bratt of Stillman Valley, Jeanne Plumb of Dixon, Patrick (Lesly) (both deceased), and Tim (Grace) Bratt of Dixon. They are proud of their 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren spread across the USA. Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of this beloved couple from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at the St. Mary Catholic Church Hall, 220 E.
