Bushman & Zapata Jill Bushman, the daughter of Marilyn Bushman of Dixon and the late Jim Bushman, and Luis Zapata, the son of Juan and Maria Zapata of Itasca, were joined in holy matrimony on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. The wedding was at Sugar Grove Church in Dixon. Officiating the bilingual ceremony was Pastor Arellano of Grand Detour. The bride was given away by her brother, Pat Bushman of Polo. Serving as matron of honor was Jaime Greenfield, the bride’s sister. The bridesmaids were Andrea Cashman and Cherrelle Negrusz, friends of the bride, and Brenda and Jackie Zapata, sisters of the groom. The best man was Julio de la Cruz, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were David, Luis, and Abraham Pedraza, friends of the groom, and Daniel Hernandez, cousin of the groom.

Special helpers included Tanya, Sammi, Cassie, and Courtney Bushman and Amber Greenfield. A reception was held following the ceremony at the Historic Post House in Dixon. The reception featured music by Afinca’o, a 10-piece salsa band from Chicago, and was beautifully decorated by the bride’s aunt, Christy Paxton of Rock Falls. The couple enjoyed their honeymoon in Santa Barbara, California. Jill is an assistant principal at Bardwell Elementary in Aurora, and Luis is an integrated engineer at Optimum Card Solutions. The couple reside in Plainfield.

Doug taught elementary school in Rock Falls for 33 years, before retiring in 2001, and continues to substitute teach for the same district. Gladys was a transcriptionist for the Sterling-Rock Falls Clinic and Medical Arts for 25 years, before retiring in 2004. Currently, she is a
volunteer at CGH Medical Center. They have two children, Scott (Dawn) Thomas of Goshen, Indiana, and Renee (Mike) Schumacher of Genoa City, Wisconsin. They have five grandchildren, Amolia and Allison Schumacher and Clayton, Abigail, and Matthew Thomas. The couple will celebrate with a dinner hosted by their children.

Emagene Mae Hummel Celebrates 90th Birthday Emagene Mae Hummel celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends May 30, 2016. Emagene was born May 30, 1926, in Walnut, the first-born child of Merlin and Lydia (Meyer) Pinegar. She worked 5 years at Bordens in Dixon until she married her loving husband and life partner, Charles Hummel, on Sept. 18, 1948. They were married for 65 years until Charles’ death in 2014. She has been an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon since she was a small girl, a volunteer at KSB Hospital for 30
years, and at Dixon Food Pantry for 28 years. She also previously served as an election judge for 37 years. To her loved ones, Emagene’s biggest roles have been that of a farmer’s wife and caring and devoted mother and grandmother. Emagene and Chuck have five children, Richard (Tina) Hummel, Patti (Jim Valenti) Hey, Larry (Kimberly) Hummel, Diane (Edward) Conroy, and Brenda (Michael Wolfe) Hummel Pinzon.
