he Labor Day Weekend tradition of Streator Cruise Night will get rolling once again with a car show Saturday afternoon at City Park, followed by five hours of downtown cruising, food and music that night. The car show runs noon to 3 p.m. at Streator City Park – registration is 9 a.m. to noon and costs $15. The judged show will present more than 70 awards. After the show, Cruise Night runs 5 to 10 p.m. downtown – registration is open 3 to 7 p.m. at the south side of City Park and costs $10. Register for both events for $25 (includes escort to VIP parking). A route is available for cruisers to drive throughout the evening. Cruisers are required to enter the route through the staging area. No golf carts, go-karts, stock cars or trailers can participate in the cruise. Dream Machines Car Club will host a 50/50 raffle with a minimum $3,000 payout. Tickets are $5 each or six for $25. Winners do not have to be present at the drawing.

The Streator Post Office, 221 E. Hickory St., is selling Pony Car stamps ahead of Streator’s Cruise Night. The Pony Cars commemorative pane of 20 stamps may not be split and the stamps may not be sold individually. In the past six decades, fast and fun pony cars have become a uniquely American obsession. With bold colors and dramatic lighting, the stamps capture the energy and mystique of five iconic U.S. automobiles: 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302, 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7 GT and 1969 AMC Javelin SST. Using photographs as a reference, the artist painted in oil on panels. Zack Bryant designed the stamps with original art by Tom Fritz. Class 1
