INDUSTRIAL COMMITTEE CELEBRATES MANUFACTURING MONTH AND INTRODUCES NEW SCHOLARSHIP

C areers in manufacturing are meaningful and important to the community The Industrial Committee of St. Charles Chamber works hard to promote these careers while upholding the industrial community as a whole. October is Manufacturing Month in Illinois and Laura Swarts of the Industrial Committee details the significance of supporting manufacturing and this year specifically a scholarship the committee is creating in the late Peter Schwartz’s name. “Part of the goal of manufacturing month is to share the information about what manufacturing is and what opportunities there are in manufacturing for young people coming out of high school or having it as a potential career path,” says Swarts. “It is just a way to highlight something that has kind of gotten a bad rap over the years. My dad worked in a manufacturing facility, and it was dark, smelly, and hot sometimes.

WHY BE AMEMBER?

Manufacturing isn’tnecessarily like that anymore.” The Industrial Committee is continuing in the tradition of Peter Schwartz, working tirelessly to develop industrial education in their community “All the committees on the Chamber have adirective to develop and strengthen relationships between the industrial businesses and educational community, government, and business community as ameans to attract and retain industrial businesses to St Charles,” says Swarts. “For us, we felt that if we could help promote manufacturing within the local school districts, that would in turnhelp the manufacturing businesses within St. Charles have astream of futureemployees.Plus, we could introduce all these wonderful opportunities to the students who arecoming out of district 303 and the surrounding districts.”

Five years ago, asmall scholarship was awarded to two students ayear to exploreacareer and training in manufacturing. “Wewould give funds to one student at East and one student at North for any kind of continuing education in amanufacturing focus,” says Swarts. The scholarship was discontinued for several years, but now the committee is bringing it back in one of their beloved coworker’snames. “When we got so passionate about careers in manufacturing, we decided it was best to bring it back after several years hiatus,” says Swarts. “Peter was very active in our committee and manufacturing right to the end. guy,” she says. It made sense to honor Peter’s work as he was very passionate in making sureeverything went how it was supposed to, and he facilitated articles and advertisements for the paper.” This scholarship honoring Peter Schwartz will awardtwo students with agoal of $1500 per student. “Manufacturing careers arecritically essential to our community,” says Swarts. “It’sthe perfecttime to bring back moresupport for young people looking toward an industrial manufacturing career path and help facilitate successes in those careers.”

WELCOME

F

rom the St. Charles Area Chamber of Commerce staff to you, happy fall! As the temperature gets cooler, I find myself revisiting the Annual Golf Outing, held Aug. 1 this year It was the most picturesque summer day, full of community members chatting, making great putts, and making connections. What has stuck with me since that August day is that several golfers took the time to tell me that this is one of their favorite golf outings of the year. What a huge compliment! It’s really something to be proud of, knowing that members and their guests are enjoying their time. Like it has been for the last 46 years, it was such a nice environment, full of enthusiasm and friendly competition. I’m already looking forward to the next one. To read more and see photos from the event, check out P. 8. The Chamber’s various committees are hard at work planning new and longstanding events for our members to enjoy Watching committee members collaborate and brainstorm innovative ways to bring the community together is so motivating. I’ve been on various committees within the Chamber and would definitely encourage you to get involved if you haven’t already! Email Ben Vargas, our Members Relations Manager, at bvargas@stcareachamber.com; he can help you find an opportunity I find my calendar full of upcoming events there are so many networking opportunities and fun times planned for the end of 2022. In addition to the ones noted on P. 10, look out and please join us for a scarecrow decorating event in advance of St. Charles’ Scarecrow Weekend.

irector of Marketing Communications Maggie Helmer and Nikki Nelson helped facilitate another successful Chamber Golf Outing this year “The Golf Outing is our second biggest event or outing within the Chamber,” says Helmer “It’s one of our most popular events, getting people out of the office and the opportunity to network while having fun, so of course it’s a great opportunity to raise money for the Chamber while providing a beloved occasion for our members. It’s an event they have loved for 47 years now.”

Even though the day started stormy, it ended wonderfully “We were so worried when we got up because it was storming but it actually turned into a beautiful day,” concludes Nelson.

The day of the outing was lovely, and everyone had an amazing time. “We had around ninety golfers, everybody enjoyed their time, and it was a perfect sunny day,” says Helmer “All of our holes were sponsored by members, and we had a wide variety of sponsors. After the event we had a reception at the clubhouse that gave them a chance to grab some drinks, appetizers, and the opportunity to mingle. Then, we gave out awards like Longest Putt and Closest to the Hole.”
